Police are looking for help from the public in identifying a woman wanted in a case of identity theft and fraud.

Lower Paxton Township police said they have been working with authorities in Kentucky and Ohio, and on Monday released a photograph of the woman so that someone may recognize her.

The woman in the photograph used the identity of a township woman to open numerous accounts and rent a car that has not been returned in Cincinnati, Ohio and in Cold Springs, Kentucky, police said.

Pedophile Tracking NJ Man Sentenced in RI

A federal judge in Rhode Island on Monday sentenced a New Jersey sex offender to life in prison.

Donald Jones III was convicted in May of charges of interstate travel to engage in illicit sexual acts, aggravated sexual assault, enticement of a minor, and distribution of child pornography.

Jones was arrested in April 2011 as he arrived in Rhode Island on a bus. Police said Jones thought he was coming to the state to have sex with an 8-year-old girl.

Jones had been communicating with a man he thought was the girl’s father, but the man was actually an undercover agent.

Before sentencing, Jones told Judge William Smith, “I’ve been trying to carry myself with respect and integrity. What I’m accused of doing, I didn’t do.”

But Jones’s conversations with undercover agents were recorded.

Jones asked to stay at the Wyatt Detention Facility while he appeals, but the judge said that would be up to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Jones had already been convicted three times for having sex with minors.

Wrongful Death Prosecutor to Seek Death Penalty in Killing of 6 Yr Old Girl

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – A prosecutor said Monday he plans to seek the death penalty for an Arkansas man accused of killing a 6-year-old neighbor who already had been the victim of abuse by her father and stepmother.

Zachary Holly is charged with capital murder, rape, kidnapping and residential burglary in Jersey Bridgeman’s disappearance and death in November. Holly, 28, pleaded not guilty Monday to all charges.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

In charging paperwork filed last week, prosecutor Van Stone said Holly restrained the girl “with the purpose of engaging in sexual intercourse, deviate sexual activity, or sexual contact with Jersey Bridgeman.” Authorities have said the girl was suffocated.

Stone told The Associated Press on Monday that he plans to pursue the death penalty against Holly.

One of Holly’s lawyers, Pat Aydelott, said he could not talk about the facts of the case but that he would use all available resources to defend his client.

Authorities arrested Holly several days after Jersey Bridgeman was found dead Nov. 20 in a vacant home next to Holly’s in Bentonville, a community about 215 miles northwest of Little Rock that is best known as the home of Wal-Mart’s headquarters.

Jersey’s death ended a short life marred by abuse. In late 2011, her father, David Bridgeman, and stepmother, Jana Bridgeman, were arrested for chaining her to a dresser in their home in the nearby town of Rogers. David Bridgeman told investigators that he restrained the girl to keep her from getting into medication and other things in the house.

David Bridgeman is serving an 18-year prison sentence after pleading guilty in June to false imprisonment, permitting the abuse of a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor. Jersey’s stepmother is serving a 12-year sentence, plus three years for a probation revocation, after pleading guilty to the same charges.

Jersey was at Holly’s house the night before her body was found. Holly and his wife, Amanda Holly, often babysat Jersey and her younger sister, according to court documents.

Jersey’s mother, DesaRae Bridgeman, told police she went next door to visit the couple after she came home from work. Then, Holly carried Jersey to the Bridgeman house, while Jersey’s mother carried Jersey’s younger sister, and they placed them in bed.

When DesaRae Bridgeman woke up the next morning, Jersey was missing from the bed where her 2-year-old sister was still sleeping, according to court documents.

DesaRae Bridgeman looked around the house, then asked Zachary and Amanda Holly to help her before calling 911 to report Jersey missing, according to court documents.

Police searched the Bridgeman and Holly homes before an officer noticed the back door of a nearby vacant house was open. Officers entered the house and found the girl’s body.

During an interview with authorities that day, Zachary Holly denied having anything to do with Jersey’s disappearance or death, police said in a court document. They said he was cooperative and agreed to give detectives swabs of his check for DNA tests.

Holly was being held without bond at the Benton County Jail. He is due back in court Feb. 28.

Fraud Investigation Pay Day Loan Phone Scam

As some are aware, reports of pay day loan phone scams have been occurring for the last three years or more. The scam involves victims being relentlessly contacted at their residences and places of employment regarding claims they are delinquent on a payday loan. Various coercion techniques have been used by the subjects in an attempt to persuade the victim to send money. Such techniques have evolved from repeated annoying phone calls to abusive language, threats of bodily harm, and arrests.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The IC3 has become aware of increased coercion tactics used by the subjects, which have created a threat to emergency services across the nation. The threats have now escalated into a Telephony Denial of Service (TDoS) attacks against the victims’ employers, which some have been emergency service agencies. The TDoS attacks have tied up the emergency services’ telephone lines, preventing them from receiving and responding to legitimate emergency calls.

The other tactic the subjects are now using in order to convince the victim that a warrant for their arrest exists is by spoofing a police department’s telephone number when calling the victim. The subject claims there is a warrant issued for the victim’s arrest for failure to pay off the loan. In order to have the police actually respond to the victim’s residence, the subject places repeated, harassing calls to the local police department while spoofing the victim’s telephone number.

Private Detective Most Popular 2012 Passwords Revealed

SplashData.com recently published the following information regarding the most popular 2012 passwords on the web. The ranking was based on password information from compromised accounts posted by hackers online. The article was also featured on blogs.avg.com.

This year, the list is back! So it’s time to see how, if at all, users have learned their lessons about what makes a strong password.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

Here’s the full list and how it compares to last year’s:
# Password Change from 2011
1. password Unchanged
2. 123456 Unchanged
3. 12345678 Unchanged
4. abc123 Up 1
5. qwerty Down 1
6. monkey Unchanged
7. letmein Up 1
8. dragon Up 2
9. 111111 Up 3
10. baseball Up 1
11. iloveyou Up 2
12. trustno1 Down 3
13. 1234567 Down 6
14. sunshine Up 1
15. master Down 1
16. 123123 Up 4
17. welcome New
18. shadow Up 1
19. ashley Down 3
20. football Up 5
21. jesus New
22. michael Up 2
23. ninja New
24. mustang New
25. password1 New

As you can see, people haven’t changed their password habits a whole lot in a year.

If your password is included on that list, or is a close variation of these passwords, it’s really important to take action now!

Fixing your password problem can be very simple;

Long is strong: The longer the password, the more difficult it will be for someone to try and crack it using brute force. So, instead of a single word, with a jumble of symbols, numbers and characters, try a string of words. Use a line of your favorite poem, song or just something memorable. Feel free to add your lucky number at the end if you like.

Something like: “withnodirectionhome1085”.

A famous Dylan lyric like this will always be easy to remember, and say you were born in October 1985. This means that you’ve suddenly got a 23 character password, which is much harder to crack than something much harder to remember such as “Phu!R7tRjX”.

Variety is the spice of life: The trouble with smaller, complex passwords is that they can be a real hassle to remember, often forcing you to use the same password for multiple accounts which is never a good idea. So another benefit of having long, easy to remember passwords is that you keep many passwords.

Fraud Investigation New Twist to Online Tech Support Scam

The IC3 continues to receive complaints reporting telephone calls from individuals claiming to be with Tech Support from a well-known software company. The callers have very strong accents and use common names such as “Adam” or “Bill.” Callers report the user’s computer is sending error messages, and a virus has been detected. In order to gain access to the user’s computer, the caller claims that only their company can resolve the issue.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The caller convinces the user to grant them the authority to run a program to scan their operating system. Users witness the caller going through their files as the caller claims they are showing how the virus has infected their computer.

Users are told the virus could be removed for a fee and are asked for their credit card details. Those who provide the caller remote access to their computers, whether they paid for the virus to be removed or not, report difficulties with their computer afterwards; either their computers would not turn on or certain programs/files were inaccessible.

Some report taking their computers to local technicians for repair and the technicians confirmed software had been installed. However, no other details were provided.

In a new twist to this scam, it was reported that a user’s computer screen turned blue, and eventually black, prior to receiving the call from Tech Support offering to fix their computer. At this time, it has not been determined if this is related to the telephone call or if the user had been experiencing prior computer problems.

Arson Investigation Suspect Arrested in Christmas Eve Fire in Springfield, Mass.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Springfield man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a two family home on Christmas Eve, and trying to start a fire in another building days earlier.

Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Lorenzo Gaines, 42, faces arson and other charges.

On December 24, Gaines allegedly set a fire at 185-187 Northampton Avenue ; a two-family home that is listed as his address. Six people were forced out of the home, which was destroyed.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

Delaney says investigators found that the fire had been set in four different places in the house. He added that at the time of the fire, arson investigators had observed Gaines near the home, with minor burns on his hands.

Investigators also suspect that three days prior to the Northampton Avenue fire, Gaines had tried to set a fire at 385 Worthington Street; a building that sustained damage in the November gas explosion.

Detectives had obtained a warrant, and arrested Gaines Monday at Probate Court in Springfield. Delaney says that Gaines was at court for a separate domestic matter.

In addition to arson, Gaines is charged with malicious damage to property, disabling a fire alarm (in the Northampton Ave. fire), and two counts of burn personality . He will be arraigned later on Monday in Springfield District Court.

Wrongful Death Odessa Man Confesses to 2008 Murder of Missing Man

For more than four years, Esther Armendarez always wondered what happened to her husband Rene Escobar Sanchez after she reported him missing on July 15, 2008.

After years of waiting and wondering, she finally learned Saturday that Sanchez was dead.

“I don’t know what’s worse: Not knowing or finding out what happened,” Aremdarez said. “Throughout those four years, we were holding out to the faith that he would come home.”

The suspect, 29-year-old Jesus Miguel Venegas, 2661 E. 11th St., was charged with murder after he reportedly confessed to killing Sanchez following his arrest on a traffic stop. Venegas was being held without bond Monday at the Ector County Detention Center.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Odessa Police officers originally charged Venegas Saturday with driving with an invalid license, a class ‘B’ misdemeanor, a probable cause affidavit stated.

After being taken to the detention center, Venegas told law enforcement officials he wanted to talk to detectives about the disappearance of Sanchez, then 36, who was last seen on July 12, 2008, the affidavit stated. After waiving his Miranda warning, Rene then reportedly confessed to killing the man.

Armendariz, who made the initial report, said she last saw her husband at 11 p.m. when he left his residence to drink.

During previous investigations into the case, police interviewed Tomas Gomez, who stated Sanchez showed up to his house that night and was drinking beer with him and Venegas, the affidavit stated. Around 2:30 a.m., the trio ran out of alcoholic beverages and Sanchez and Venegas were last seen walking towards Sanchez’s house, the affidavit stated.

During a July 24, 2008 interview, police talked to Venegas who said he and Sanchez had more beers near Sanchez’s vehicle, the affidavit stated. Venegas was reported as the last person to see Sanchez that night.

“In first talking to him, there was not enough then to charge him with Sanchez’s disappearance,” Odessa Police spokeswoman Cpl. Sherrie Carruth said. “At this point, there are a lot of questions we have to find answers to before we can even begin to put the puzzle together.”

Carruth added that the next step in the investigation would be trying to locate Sanchez’s remains.

What caused Venegas to confess is still unclear, but Carruth said it was common for suspects to wait before finally making a statement with regard to a case. The time difference, she said, could range anywhere between days to years.

“You have some that it will take 10 or 20 years, it depends on how the guilt eats at them,” Carruth said. “And some are cold-hearted and feel they will never get caught.”

For Armendarez, she said she isn’t sure what the next steps will be. After years of rumors and hearing various reports of people seeing Sanchez alive, she said her main concern is being strong for her family. She said she didn’t know Venegas, and only talked to him face-to-face once after she had learned he was the last one to see her husband alive.

Armendarez said she and Sanchez were married for five years before he disappeared. The couple also had two children together — the son now 5 and the daughter 7 — who she said are still too young to understand what happened. She plans on telling them the truth once they get older.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’re just going to stick together and be there for one another,” Armendarez said. “I am grateful to Detective (Angie) Reyes … she didn’t let us down.”
