Private Detective Frankfort Police Seize $67,000 Worth of Drugs

Frankfort police seized drugs worth around $67,000 after a traffic stop last week.

Police say an officer pulled over a car along Rolling Acres Drive back on Dec. 12. As he was investigating a traffic violation, the officer noticed a second car pass by several times. That car eventually stopped and the woman inside asked the officer about the traffic stop, saying the driver was her boyfriend.

Police say that as the investigation continued, officers searched both cars, along with a home shared by the couple. Police say they found 8,195 pill, more than seven pounds of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and cash.

Police arrested Christopher Mays, 33, and Brittany Hawkins, 24. Both face multiple drug related charges.

Pedophile Tracking Aspen, CO Man Faces Charges

ASPEN — An Aspen man who allegedly confessed to authorities that he kept child pornography on his computer is out of jail on $20,000 bond.

Court filings released Tuesday suggest that Aedan Teague Hopper, 20, solicited girls to provide him nude pictures and “engage in explicit sexual conduct for the making of sexually exploitative material.”

Hopper turned himself in to the Aspen Police Department on Monday after the agency issued a warrant for his arrest, which Pitkin County District Judge Gail Nichols signed Friday night. Hopper previously had admitted to an Aspen police detective, during a Dec. 9 interview at his apartment in Boulder, where he attends college, that he is a “pedophile” and a “social leper,” according to court filings.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Nichols advised Hopper on Monday night that he faces separate Class 3 and Class 6 felony charges of sexual exploitation of a child. Colorado statutes consider any person younger than 18 a child.

The Class 3 felony offense is one in which Hopper is accused of preparing and producing “any sexually exploitative material.” A conviction carries a prison term of four to 12 years. The Class 4 charge, in which Hopper is accused of possessing sexually exploitative material, carries one to 18 months of incarceration. If Hopper is convicted of either offense, he will be required to register as a sexual offender.

Also in place is a mandatory protection order that prohibits Hopper from having any contact with, as described in court papers, the “protected parties.” Hopper also was ordered to turn over his passport to authorities.

Details of the investigation are limited because of a court order, which Nichols signed Monday, that redacts all information in the case file that could lead to the identification of the victim or victims, including their ages and hometowns.

Members of the Aspen Police Department declined to discuss the case because of what department spokeswoman Blair Weyer called “sensitive information.” Chief Deputy District Attorney Arnold Mordkin also declined comment.

While details about the victims are not public, an application for an arrest warrant says that Hopper “induced” the victims “to expose parts of their bodies for Hopper’s own sexual gratification.”

Police began investigating Hopper last month. On Nov. 15, Bruce Benjamin, the juvenile investigator for the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, learned from the Texas Department of Family Services/Crisis Intervention that a young girl had reached out to the agency’s website for young victims of sex crimes, according to application for an arrest warrant, which was written by Aspen Police Detective Ian MacAyeal.

That tip prompted Benjamin to obtain court authorization to collect Internet provider addresses and other records, which led to him to locate Hopper’s home address in Aspen, which is the residence of his father, Sean Hopper, who is keyboardist and vocalist for Huey Lewis and the News.

On Nov. 30, MacAyeal learned that Aedan Hopper also had a Boulder address. MacAyeal, who worked with Boulder law-enforcement authorities, obtained a warrant to search Hopper’s Boulder home on Dec. 9. When MacAyeal visited Hopper’s home, Hopper allowed the detective in and waived his Miranda rights.

“In the context (of) child pornography, I asked Hopper if he had pictures of child pornography on his computer and he said ‘Yes,’” MacAyeal wrote in the arrest-warrant application. “He described files on his computer that are entitled ‘DDT’ and ‘36.’ Hopper said these files contain images of child pornography.”

Hopper also admitted to MacAyeal that he is sexually attracted toward young children, MacAyeal wrote.

“He admitted he had been struggling with this ‘problem’ for some time. He referred to himself as a ‘pedophile’ and a ‘social leper.’”

During his interview with MacAyeal, Hopper asked questions about jail time, MacAyeal wrote.

“He was worried about going to prison and what they do to ‘pedophiles’ in prison. He asked ‘If I move out of the country, does this follow me?’ Based on these statements, I believe Hopper may attempt to flee the country to avoid prosecution,” MacAyeal wrote.

Hopper, who is a 2010 graduate of Aspen High School, is due back in court Jan. 7.

Wrongful Death Lexington Woman Indicted in Fatal Shooting of Her Boyfriend

NEWPORT — A 21-year-old Lexington woman was indicted Thursday in Campbell County for allegedly fatally shooting her boyfriend two months ago inside his Highland Heights condominium.

Shayna Hubers is charged with one count of murder. She will be arraigned Jan. 16 in Campbell Circuit Court.

Investigators said Hubers shot 29-year-old Ryan Poston, a lawyer in Cincinnati, from across his kitchen table. The detective said the gun was owned by Poston, an avid target shooter.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Poston’s stepfather Peter Carter and mother Lisa Carter, released a statement after the indictment.

“As families across our community prepare to gather during this very special time of year, the Poston and Carter families feel a heavy sadness knowing that we will never again celebrate Christmas with our beloved Ryan,” read the statement. “Our only solace is an unwavering confidence in our legal system and our strong belief that justice shall be served.”

Poston graduated from Northern Kentucky University’s Salmon P. Chase College of Law in 2008.

In May, he had launched his own practice, focusing on personal injury cases. His friends and colleagues have described him as a bright, hard-working attorney who had a promising future.

Hubers remained at the county jail Thursday on no bond.

Her attorney, Wil Zevely, said his client acted in self defense. Hubers told authorities that she had been arguing with Poston and he had become verbally abusive.

Hubers earned a bachelor’s of science degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky last summer. She is enrolled in her first semester of graduate work at Eastern Kentucky University, seeking a master’s degree in school counseling.

Poston met Hubers during a visit to Lexington, according to friends. Poston’s family previously said the young lawyer was trying to end the relationship.

Fraud Investigation Voter Fraud in Iowa

DES MOINES – A federal and state probe into spending by Iowa Secretary of State Matt Schultz has gone nowhere nearly four months after a state lawmaker requested it, according to officials.

The inquiry centers on $280,000 Schultz is paying a Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation staffer to hunt down voter fraud in the state. Since the investigator’s July hiring, eight people have been charged with voter misconduct, according to Schultz’s testimony Wednesday during a U.S. Judiciary Committee hearing.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Those eight charges average more than $11,600 per case.

“It frustrates me that you ask for what are pretty simple requests and it takes so long to get it,” said Sen. Tom Courtney, D-Burlington, who requested the investigation. “I can’t get answers out of anyone, and they continue to take more time.”

Courtney asked for the investigation in early October, alleging Schultz improperly paid the investigator with federal money aimed at educating Iowans about voting procedures, rights and technology. Schultz has disputed that the money was misused.

The request for an inquiry came on the heels of a lawsuit filed against Schultz, who also enacted emergency rules allowing his office to check the status of potential immigrants who voted but were ineligible to do so.

Schultz’s efforts are politically motivated and inappropriate, Courtney said.

“This thing looks pretty partisan, which clouds the issue,” Courtney said.

$280,000 FOR EIGHT FRAUD CHARGES: Secretary of State Matt Schultz’s spending questioned.

Officials with the U.S. Inspector General for the U.S. Election Commission and Iowa state auditor’s office say they need additional information before moving forward. Curtis Crider, inspector general for the elections commission, refused to say what specific information his office is seeking.
State officials say they can do nothing until the feds provide guidance on the spending requirements for the dollars in question.

“The federal government would ultimately decide if anything was done improperly,” said Warren Jenkins, deputy state auditor. “Rather than take up our time we are waiting for them to say here’s what you can use the money for and these are the improper uses. It’s a much better use of Iowa taxpayer resources.”

Identity Theft Scam Queens Man Pleads Guilty

A South Ozone Park man who portrayed himself as a Harvard graduate with plans to open a medical facility has pleaded guilty to identity theft, the Queens District Attorney’s office announced Wednesday.

DA Richard Brown said Delloyd “Tom” Hill compromised the personal information of six doctors and others.

Hill, 50, claimed to be interviewing for positions at the facility and was seeking investors, according to the DA’s office.

By stealing the identities of eight individuals, Hill was able to open credit lines in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, Brown said.

From April to September of this year, Hill was able to secure three lines of credit, according to the DA’s office. Hill also asked his landlord and another individual to invest, taking a total of $65,000 from them.

Hill will face a sentence of two to four years when he’s sentenced on Jan. 8.

Private Detective FL Doctor Convicted of Illegally Prescribing Pills to KY

ASHLAND, KY—A federal jury convicted a Florida doctor of conspiring with a pain clinic owner and others to illegally prescribe hundreds of thousands of pills to Kentuckians.

The Ashland jury convicted 57-year-old Dr. Clara S. Rodriguez-Iznaga of conspiracies to distribute controlled substances, and to launder money. The jury returned the guilty verdict yesterday after approximately two hours of deliberation following six and a half days of trial.

http://liarcatchers.com/index.php

Approximately 30 people have been charged and convicted for their roles in drug conspiracies related to this case.

According to evidence at the trial, in a one-year span starting in 2008, Rodriguez-Iznaga made approximately $641,000 in cash by unlawfully prescribing 600,000 oxycodone pills at her pain clinic in Florida. Most of her patients traveled from West Virginia, southern Ohio, and Boyd, Lawrence, and Greenup counties, along with other eastern Kentucky counties.

Witnesses testified that, while they went to other Florida pain clinics to obtain pills, Rodriguez-Iznaaga was the easiest doctor to obtain a prescription from and that she prescribed the highest quantity of medication. Testimony also proved that the defendant conducted little or no examination before writing the prescriptions.

Rodriguez-Iznaga saw as many as 30 to 35 patients a day, collecting $150 to $160 cash for each office visit. She also supervised the in-house pharmacy which often charged more than $1,000 in cash to fill a prescription.

Rodriguez-Iznaga opened Florida Global Medical pain clinic in June 2008 with a co-defendant. They used fliers to solicit Kentucky, Ohio, and West Virginia patients. Over 600 patients came to her clinic from those states. The clinic grossed $1.9 million in one year.

In an attempt to thwart investigators, Rodriguez-Iznaga and Robinson hired a security guard to watch for informants and undercover law enforcement officers. Robinson pleaded guilty last month to a money laundering conspiracy charge. He is scheduled to be sentenced in March 2013.

Kerry B. Harvey, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Perrye Turner, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation; Rodney Brewer, Kentucky State Police Commissioner; and Robert L. Corso, Special Agent in Charge, Drug Enforcement Administration jointly announced the conviction.

The investigation was conducted by the Kentucky State Police; FBI in Kentucky and Miami; DEA Diversion in Ohio and Miami; Operation UNITE, Appalachia HIDTA; and the Pikeville Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Roger West represented the U.S. Attorney’s Office in this case.

Rodriguez-Iznaga will be sentenced in April 2013. She faces a maximum of 20 years on both charges. The court must consider the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statues before imposing a sentence.
