Wrongful Death Elderly Woman’s Dismembered Body Found in Home

The dismembered body of a 74-year-old woman was found Friday after neighbors reported a foul odor coming from the house.

Officers went to investigate the bungalow-style house on North Ditmar Street in San Diego around 11:10 am, Sgt. Matt Christensen said.

Sixty-nine-year-old Frederick Hengel was detained shortly afterward in the downtown Oceanside area, Lt. Leonard Mata said. Hengel voluntarily went to police headquarters, where he was arrested.

Neighbors said they had not seen the woman, who has not been identified yet pending notification to her relatives, for about a month. Several reported hearing what sounded like the screeching of heavy machinery about two weeks ago.

The woman had been seen exposing herself in the area, and her husband had been seen dressed in women’s clothing, jewelry, and makeup.

Adult Protective Services had been referred to the home, but Sgt. Christensen said he didn’t know when or why. Lt. Mata said there had been no record of domestic violence.

Some neighbors called the couple hostile, while another said the woman was harmless and her husband was reclusive.

About six months ago, 21-year-old Erick Chavez said the woman had been seen wandering around the neighborhood carrying a butcher knife and exposing herself with her parents around her ankles. He said this went on for about a month.

Chavez also said the woman preached in the street, saying things like, “God will smite you.” His mother, 59-year-old Olga Heras, said she was afraid of the woman and would not let her grandson play in the yard because of her. She said the family had contacted police several times about her.

Chavez and other neighbors told police they heard what sounded like an electric saw between 8 and 10 pm about two weeks ago.

Frederick Hengel was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on a first-degree murder charge. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.

Arson Investigation Boy 3 Killed in Pa Arson

Police say a little boy is dead after a man set fire to a family’s Pennsylvania home thinking his ex-girlfriend was inside.

Altoona police say 62-year-old Aaron Wilson Dishong set the fire in an attempt to kill his ex but only two young children and their mother were inside.

Three-year-old Daryl Etchison Jr. was killed in the blaze. Authorities say his mother jumped from a third-floor window to save herself and her 2-year-old daughter.

Dishong allegedly incriminated himself during a phone call with a witness that was monitored by police. Investigators say he had been stalking his ex-girlfriend, who had a restraining order against him.

Dishong was jailed Thursday night on homicide, arson and related charges. He denied setting the fire following his arraignment.

Etchison’s mother remains hospitalized.

Missing Person Missing Atlanta Man’s Body Found in Florida

Police in Florida said remains found a week ago on a beach have been identified as a missing Atlanta man.

Satellite Beach authorities had been looking for Jeremy Knauff, 28, since Nov. 6, when they said he indicated to friends he planned to walk into the Atlantic Ocean, according to a report on Floridatoday.com

Police searched Hamilton Beach in Brevard County and found Knauff’s abandoned rental car, along with his cell phone and car keys on the beach, but did not find him. A search involving the Coast Guard also was unsuccessful.

A surfer found a body a week ago about 60 miles away on a beach in Fort Pierce, in St. Lucie County. That body was identified through dental records Thursday as being Knauff.

“Dental records confirmed this was our missing person,” Cmdr. Brad Hodge, spokesman for the Satellite Beach police, said in a statement obtained by Floridatoday.com. “This hopefully provided some closure for the family while they try to deal with this very tragic situation, especially as the holidays approach.”

Arson Investigation Philadelphia Man Sentenced in Arson Insurance Fraud

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A Philadelphia man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison for a potentially catastrophic arson insurance fraud which netted him over $127,000.

The arson fire went to two alarms and, although, fortunately no one was injured, it destroyed the building and threatened other homes, businesses, a school and interrupted public transportation near Bustleton Avenue in the far northeast.

Prosecutor Mark Dubnoff says 31-year-old Michael Giamo paid his best friend to torch the building housing Giamo’s failing auto repair shop, but the friend got cold feet.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html

“Instead of setting fire to the place himself, what he did instead was to hire a migrant worker. He paid him a couple of hundred dollars to set the fire for him,” says Dubnoff.

That stranger, found in a home repair store parking lot, has never been identified or charged.

Giamo’s co-conspirator friend cooperated, recorded conversations with Giamo in which Giamo discussed the arson fire and told his friend to get rid of his computer because it had “hard evidence” on it.

The cooperating co-defendant was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison.

Wrongful Death 2 Bodies Found in Barrels in Anderson County, SC

The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office was conducting dual homicide investigations Friday after the remains of two people were found in separate barrels in Lake Hartwell, and deputies named two suspects and released the identities of the man and woman who were killed.

Deputies identified the victims as Andrea Kellie Mitchell, 37, whose address wasn’t known, and Tony Lamar McGinnis, 53, whose last address was Starr. McGinnis was reported missing earlier this month, investigators said.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Coroner Greg Shore said McGinnis’ body had been dismembered.

Named as suspects in both homicide investigations were John Michael Young, 35, of 3605 Centerville Road in Anderson, and Shaine David Fischer, 34, of 419 W. Whitner St. in Anderson, according to arrest warrants.

Fischer was charged with two counts of accessory after the fact of murder, according to warrants. Fischer was in the Anderson County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, deputies said.

On Friday night, investigators were searching for Young, said Chad McBride, a spokesman for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Warrants charged Young with two counts of murder and one count of unauthorized removal of a dead body.

Any possible motive for the killings hasn’t been established, McBride said.

McGinnis and Mitchell were killed in a wooded area on Hicks Road in Anderson County, according to warrants.

McGinnis died in September and Mitchell in October, the warrants say.

Both suffered blunt force trauma to the head, according to the warrants.

Mitchell’s body was found Wednesday in a plastic barrel that was partially submerged in the lake, authorities said.

Deputies returned to the lake Thursday and found McGinnis’ body in a metal barrel about 10 feet below the water’s surface.

Missing Person Stacey David of Beaufort, SC

BEAUFORT, S.C. —

The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of a 44-year old man from a job site.

Just after 9:00 pm last night, Sheriff’s deputies met with a complainant at the Comfort Inn (2 Tanglewood Dr) in reference to a reported missing person.

Forty-four year old Stacey David, originally of Sumter, SC, was reported missing by a co-worker, with whom David has been staying while working in the area.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

When David mysteriously walked away from their worksite at 11 Office Park Rd around noon yesterday, and then failed to return to the hotel, his co-worker became concerned.

David was reportedly acting strangely just before he left the job, and was seen walking around talking to himself. It is believed that David is unfamiliar with the area and has no known contacts here. David has no vehicle and no cell phone.

David is not considered a threat to himself or to others at this time, however, given his unusual behavior just prior to his disappearance, he is being considered as an endangered missing person, possibly requiring immediate medical attention.

David is described as a black male, approximately 5’07”, 130 lbs, and may go by the nickname “Blade.” At the time of his disappearance he was wearing a blue coat, blue jeans, and a beige cap.

Anyone with information regarding the possible whereabouts of Stacey David is asked to contact Crimestoppers or Investigator Sgt. L. Albertin at 843-255-3413.

Identity Theft Phillip Smith Pleaded Guilty

Phillip Smith, a 55-year-old Bronx native, pleaded guilty in Manhattan Federal Court today for his role as ring leader of a large-scale identity theft scam involving customers with credit accounts at big retail stores.

Smith faces a maximum of 22 years in prison for pleading guilty to three counts of conspiracies to commit access device fraud, to produce false identification documents and aggravated identity theft, according to a release from the New York Attorney General’s Office.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

For anyone not quite sure of how some of these identity theft schemes work, Smith and seven other scammers used credit information from customers with accounts at big-box retail stores — such as Home Depot, Kohl’s and Sears — to purchase pricey products. He then sold the products to a secondary party at a price lower than market value, according to the release.

“For more than three years, these defendants methodically victimized hundreds of New Yorkers in an elaborate scheme to line their own pockets,” New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman said in a release “We will aggressively crack down on identity theft, and these guilty pleas send a message: Identity thieves will go to jail.”

Schneiderman’s office led the two-year investigation of the illegal operation in tandem with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office and New York’s Homeland Security Investigations division. The scam began in 2008 when Smith somehow got a hold of multiple forms of identification — including social security numbers — for thousands of people, according to the release.

Smith used that data to identify which of those people held credit accounts with retail stores. He then delivered that information to three brothers, Mahmoud Abdul Hussein, 28, Ali Abdul Hussein, 34, and Fadal Abdul Hussein, 23, who created fake driver’s licenses in the names of the victims, the release says.

Eugene Smith, 39, Winston Harris, 57, and a third cohort then used the fraudulent licenses to impersonate the victims and make credit purchases in their name at retail stores in 12 different states. The products were then sold to Francis Hidalgo, 45, and Randy White, 57, for 60 percent of their original price, the release says

In a show of criminal portfolio diversity, Hidalgo also grew marijuana out of two Bronx warehouses — from which authorities seized over 400 plants, according to the release. Hidalgo, who pleaded guilty yesterday, faces up to 55 years in prison. White faces five years in prison. The Hussein brothers are looking at a maximum of 15 years in prison, and the rest of the conspirators face up to 22 years behind bars.

“Today’s guilty pleas put an end to a scam that victimized hundreds of New Yorkers and defrauded retail stores of more than a million dollars,” HSI Special Agent-in-Charge James T. Hynes Jr. said in the release. “This case exemplifies HSI’s, and its law enforcement partners’ commitment to work as a unified force to disrupt criminal organizations bent on fraud to feed their greed.”
