Wrongful Death Double Homicide in Tulsa

TULSA, Oklahoma –

Tulsa Police are investigating the deaths of two people whose bodies were found inside a home in the 6900 block of East Newton Thursday night.

Police were dispatched to the house after getting a 911 call at about 11:55 p.m. on November 1, 2012. When officers arrived they found 20-year-old Deyonta Dunn and 19-year-old Phoenicia Dorsey dead in the living room.

Police say they appear to have died from gunshot wounds. Authorities say there didn’t appear to be any forced entry into the house and little signs of a struggle.

The pair were discovered by a relative of Dunn’s. Family and friends of Dunn say they had been looking for him all day and hadn’t been able to reach him by phone.

Deyonta Dunn was the second of four children. Police say he had a storied past and did have past felony convictions, but to his mother he was the little boy with a big heart – a young man trying to get his life back on track.

Deyonta Dunn’s mother says he was outgoing, the one who kept the family laughing. She says he was generous, took care of his family and was willing to give his last dollar to someone in need.

“Deyonta had a big heart,” said Beverly Foster, Deyonta’s mother. “He was a good kid. He had his troubles, yes, he did, but he was trying to turn himself around, to do right.”

She says he had been hoping to start a tire shop, and she’s been asking herself why someone would do this.

Sergeant Dave Walker with the Tulsa Police Department released the woman’s identity late Friday afternoon. Police say the 19-year-old woman was shot just because she was there.

He said the time of death was late night or early morning on November 1.

Tulsa Police do not believe this was a random crime and that the shooter or shooters were after Dunn.

Police say Deyonta has quite a history with them.

“We’re very familiar with him, in the homicide unit, the robbery unit, the gang unit and the narcotics unit. We could look at any of these groups as a motive,” said Sergeant Dave Walker, Tulsa Police Department.

Police say the street network is alive with information, evidenced by the fact that people at the scene knew the name of the young woman who was murdered. No one told police, so they spent hours getting her identified.

Both detectives and Deyonta’s family want those people to step up and tell what they know.

“Is nothing more hurtful than to have to bury your own child. My child should be burying me. I shouldn’t have to bury my child, so if you know anything, please, please help us,” said Beverly Foster, mother of murder victim Deyonta Dunn.

Deyonta’s mother says she didn’t know Miss Dorsey, but her heart certainly goes out to that family as well.

Police say these deaths are Tulsa’s 41st and 42nd homicides of the year.

Anyone with information about these two murders is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-2677.

Private Detective One of the Escaped Inmates Caught in Marion County, KY

A man who walked away from the Marion County Adjustment Center earlier this week is back behind bars. Kenneth Gibson was booked into jail shortly before noon Saturday.

Marion County deputies saw an inmate in the area off of Beantown Road and Raley Road Saturday afternoon.

It was quite a surprise to WWII veteran and farmer Clyde Cecil who lives near the area where deputies found 55-year-old Kenneth Gibson. Gibson was doing time for burglary, robbery and a slew of other charges, including escaping jail. After his 24-plus hours on the run, he now has another escape charge.

How Gibson and the other inmate 49-year-old Ronny Stutes walked away from the adjustment center is still under investigation.

Prison officials say Stutes is still on the run, which marks the 3rd time he’s escaped from prison.

Pedophile Tracking Newton, NC Man Sentenced

CHARLOTTE N.C. – A Newton man was sentenced to 420 months in prison and a lifetime of supervised release on charges related to sexual offenses and child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Anne M. Tompkins of the Western District of North Carolina.

Bruce Leroy Donald, Jr., 41, was sentenced on one count of production of child pornography, one count of a felony offense involving a minor committed by a registered sex offender and one count of possession of child pornography.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

The charges stem from a May 2011 indictment. Based on court documents, Donald repeatedly sexually abused a minor male between 2007 and 2008 and photographed some of the abuse. The Newton Police Department, working with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the State Bureau of Investigation, found hundreds of pictures of child pornography in Donald’s possession and identified a local boy in the pictures. The Newton Police department first came upon the evidence against Donald while investigating him for unrelated larcenies.

Donald was a registered sex offender at the time he committed the sex crimes.

His case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. The initiative is led by the U.S. Attorneys’ offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section and brings together federal, state and local resources to “better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue the victims.”

Donald pleaded guilty to child pornography production and possession charges in October 2011. He has been in local federal custody since May 2011 and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons as soon as officials designate a federal facility. His sentence will be served without the possibility of parole, as are all federal sentences.

Identity Theft 2 Charged in $50k Fraud Case

A Bronx man and a Pennsylvania man have been charged in an identity theft probe that was launched after $50,000 in fraudulent purchases were made on the credit card account of a Westchester County resident, according to State Police.

Almanzor Dejesus-Castro, 31, of the Bronx, and Paul Abreu-Grullon, 38, of Reading, PA, are accused of third-degree attempted grand larceny and are being held in the Westchester County Jail in Valhalla on $10,000 bail.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

In October, State Police Investigator James Stirpe of the Somers Barracks initiated an investigation which stemmed from a Somers resident having her credit card information stolen and subsequent fraudulent purchases being made. About $50,000 worth of computer equipment was charged against her credit card and others throughout the state.

Police said large orders were placed at various computer companies in the U.S. and pick up was arranged at major shipping hubs. During the investigation, with assistance from the U.S. Postal Inspectors Office, a controlled pick-up from a post office in Somers was coordinated. Dejesus-Castro arrived at the Somers Post Office and retrieved one of 40 packages that he was scheduled to pick-up, police said.

Police surveillance was being maintained and as he left the Post Office Dejesus-Castro was arrested and taken into custody without incident. Abreu-Grullon, who was waiting in a nearby van, observed the arrest and attempted to flee. Abreu-Grullon was immediately arrested on Route 202 a short distance from the Post Office without incident.

Both men were processed at the Somers State Police barracks and arraigned before Judge Dennis Timone of the Town of Somers Court. Police said the investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.

Wrongful Death Body Found in Burned Home in Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A body found in a burned home in north Minneapolis is now under investigation as a possible homicide.

The blaze started on the 3800 block of Humboldt Avenue North around 8:15 p.m. Friday night.

Neighbor Jordan Ward witnessed the fire.

“I looked and there was just a bunch of smoke,” Ward said.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The call for help started like any other after neighbors saw fire coming out of the home at 3838 Humboldt Ave.

“They were breaking down the windows and channeling all this dark smoke out,” said neighbor Susan Bendickson.

According to Minneapolis Police Sgt. Steven McCarty, once crews put the flames out firefighters soon found more than just a burned shell of a home.

“There was a body that was found inside when firefighters got there,” McCarty said.

Investigators also saw that smoke or flames were not the likely cause of death.

“There was trauma to the body that indicated that a homicide most likely occurred,” said McCarty.

“That’s frightening, actually,” Bendickson said.

The fire burned just one home, but the shock of the investigation is now being felt all along Humboldt Avenue.

“I mean this is like almost Camden here, and it’s a fairly quiet neighborhood. We haven’t had anything like that since I’ve been here,” she said.

Investigators are following up on leads for suspects. They do not think the public is at risk, but they are asking anyone with information to give their tips line a call at 612-692-TIPS (8477).

The victim’s name has not been released.

Fraud Investigation 2 Woodstock Women Accused

ACWORTH — Two Woodstock women are accused of stealing from residents of assisted living centers.

Candace Janet Ballard, 31, and Jayne Cherelle Phillips, 23, were arrested Tuesday on three burglary counts and two credit card fraud counts each, Cobb Police said.

All of the charges are felonies.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Police said investigators received a report of a theft at the Heritage at Brookstone assisted living facility, 5235 Stilesboro Road in Acworth. The investigation led police to find that the suspects allegedly targeted assisted living facilities while acting as though they were attempting to find placement for an elderly relative. Police said that during or after taking tours of the facilities, one of the suspects would enter private living quarters while residents were away and take valuable items including jewelry, personal identification with credit cards and computer equipment.

Police said they found purchases made on stolen credit cards in Cobb, Cherokee and Fulton counties, and Cobb Police Sgt. Craig Dong, whose west Cobb unit investigated the assisted living thefts, said the suspects sold stolen items to pawn shops and precious metal dealers.

Cobb Police is working with Cherokee and Fulton officials on the assisted living case because they believe Ballard and Phillips may have burglarized assisted living facilities there, Pierce said. They are also trying to identify other victims so they can return jewelry recovered at the suspects’ residences.

Pierce, whose own father is in an assisted living facility, advises people who have family members in assisted living to keep an inventory of their loved one’s belongings. He also said keeping the door to their room locked is a good idea unless it needs to stay open for medical reasons.

“If that person doesn’t want to wear that piece of jewelry or they don’t use that credit card, than why let them have it?” he said.

The suspects remained in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center Friday afternoon, each with bonds totaling $16,720.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Cobb Police Criminal Investigations Unit at (770) 499-4185.

Missing Person Raymond John Hockaday Missing from San Luis Obispo

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — The search is on for an at-risk man missing from his care facility in San Luis Obispo.

Police say he suffers from a mental illness and left his medication behind.

52 year-old Raymond John Hockaday left his home on Halloween for his daily morning walk but never came back.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Police say this is no the first time Hockaday up and left without warning.

“Several years ago, I believe he is from San Diego, and when he made his way to San Luis Obispo, I don’t think he told anybody where he was going or what he was doing,” says Detective Trevor Shalhoob of the San Luis Obispo Police.

Hockaday left his home on the 1500 block of Osos Street which is a voluntary, confidential facility for mentally ill patients.

Facility staff wouldn’t go on camera but say they think Hockaday left town.

They say Hockaday called them a few hours ago saying he was ok but was never coming back.

Community Counseling Services of San Luis Obispo Executive Director James Statler says many things can trigger a person with mental illness to leave.

“Triggers could be some type of trauma, a loss of a critical relationship,” says Statler.

“If you don’t have medication management some of your symptoms are going to increase so things like possible delusions or fears can be heightened and that can definitely put somebody in a place of despair and isolation.”

But Statler warns not all mentally ill people who go off their medication are dangerous.

“I don’t think the community should be overly worried but I think it’s letting this gentlemen know that there is care and people want him to return to his home.”

Police say the biggest concern is that Hockaday is known to become catatonic without his medication and they want to find his so he can get proper care.

Police say this will remain a missing person’s case until they see Hockaday in person and make sure he is ok.
