Private Detective Man Stabbed in Mercer County

A Mercer County man is recovering after he was stabbed and slashed early Friday morning on Highway U.S. 127 in Salvisa.

Mercer County Sheriff’s deputies say around 3:30 Friday morning, Chris Releford pulled over to help a man in a car with its flashers on.

After Releford started helping the man with his flat tire, the man attacked Releford with a knife or box cutter, slashing his face, stabbing his chest and neck, and demanding his wallet.

“He thought he might have got sucker-punched, and then he saw the blood on his arm, and realized he was bleeding. That’s when he saw the shiny object in the suspect’s hand make a swiping motion, and that’s when he got him here in the face,” says Chief Deputy Scott Elder with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials say Releford fought back, and the man took off without his wallet.

They are looking for an early 90s four-door cutlass. The attacker is described as a 6’0″ tall, 200 pound white man–30 to 40 years old. He has dark hair, a moustache, and a goatee.

Police ask if you saw anything that fits those descriptions on U.S. 127 in the Salvisa area between 3:00 and 4:00 am that you call the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department.

Drug Dog Sweep Pot Found in Package at Post Office

KIRKSVILLE, MO. — A northeast Missouri man is sitting in jail after a drug-sniffing dog at a postal facility in Kansas City made a hit on a package.

Sean Ives, 21, of Kirksville is in the Adair County Jail charged with possession with intent to deliver more than five grams of marijuana.

Police said a package containing almost one-and-a-half pounds of pot was on its way to Ives’ Kirksville apartment through the mail when it was intercepted by postal inspectors in Kansas City.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

They contacted Kirksville police detectives who then went to visit Ives at his residence.

The suspect indicated to police that he knew the package contained marijuana, and he gave postal inspectors permission to open the package.

The inspectors then confirmed that the package contained 1.4 pounds of pot.

Police said when they were at Ives’ apartment, he surrendered a marijuana smoking pipe, but he later denied consent to search.

Officers then applied for and were granted a search warrant.

During a search of the residence, officers located several items of paraphernalia, including another marijuana smoking pipe, rolling papers, a set of electronic scales and notes and figures referencing marijuana and baggies.

Detectives also recovered several receipts referencing shipments back and forth between Ives and the individual who had sent the package that was intercepted in Kansas City.

Ives is being held on $75,000 cash-only bond.

Missing Persons Michigan Teen Missing After Hit and Run

Nathan Tracy, 19, from Trenton, Mich., has been missing since Wednesday, Sept 5, when he left his home in a Ford Focus to see some friends, and ended up in a traffic accident.

Pittsfield police said that Nathan was on Ranchero Drive around 11:30 p.m. when his car went off the road and crashed into the back of a truck parked in a carport at the Valley Ranch Apartments.

Nathan got out of the car and talked with someone who saw what happened and then walked away. He has not been seen since, reports the News Herald.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

When Nathan did not return home, his family filed a missing person report, and the search for Nathan began.

Pittsfield Public Safety Director Matt Harshberger said that the state police helicopter had completed a search of the area on Friday and Nathan was not found.

Because Nathan walked away from the accident, it is now considered a hit and run and his family believe he may be afraid to turn himself in.

“Right now we’re not worried about charges,” Harshberger said. “We just want to find him safe.”

His family and friends have also been searching the area around the Valley Ranch Apartments where Nathan had his accident.

“Nathan, we love you unconditionally. Please call us and we’ll help you figure out everything, Nathan’s mom, Mishelle Tracy told AnnArbor.com.

Nathan was wearing a blue tank top, shorts and deck shoes. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact the Pittsfield Township Dept. of Public Safety at 734-822-4911.

Missing Persons Detroit Boy FOUND Being Returned to Mom

The authorities and family of a missing 11-year-old from Metro Detroit said Friday the boy is now in FBI custody in South Dakota after being located with his father at a pheasant hunting ranch.

Connor Grabowski-Cracchiolo was located at the River Hills Lodge in Platte, S.D., one day after the FBI filed paperwork against the boy’s father, Mark Grabowski, in federal court in Michigan saying the Hartland Township man was planning to flee the United States and move to Costa Rica.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Grabowski, 53, was taken into custody Friday by authorities without incident on a parental kidnapping warrant issued out of Livingston County. Authorities said Friday afternoon that Grabowski had been moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., for extradition back to Michigan.

Grabowski and his son had gone missing more than a week ago.

Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said he was notified by the FBI on Friday that Connor was in the process of returning to his mother, Kelly Evans, 45, of Richmond.

“I’m the happiest person on Earth,” Evans told The Detroit News moments after hearing her son was found. “It’s been hell. It has been the worst thing that I could ever go through in my life.”

Evans, who last saw her son Aug. 19, said she and Grabowski have battled in court over the shared custody of their son since his birth.

Connor’s maternal grandmother, Carol Markus, tearfully expressed her gratitude for the news coverage, which she believes led to Connor being located.

“We’re overwhelmed, it’s unbelievable,” she said. “It’s been such an unimaginable nightmare that this family has gone through. We are thanking the Lord for bringing him home to us. Our prayers have been answered.”

Federal court records Thursday shed further light on the hunt for Grabowski, a former defensive lineman who had been in training camp with the Detroit Lions in the early 1980s, and Connor.

The FBI learned Grabowski had planned to leave the United States and establish a new life in Costa Rica, according to an affidavit written by FBI Special Agent Robert Schmitz.

The affidavit was attached to a criminal complaint, which is related to his son’s disappearance, filed late Thursday in federal court charging Grabowski with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

Jean Grabowski, Connor’s grandmother and Mark Grabowski’s mother, said Friday that she has no idea where her son was but has been informed that he’s in custody.

“He did what he thought was the best thing for his son,” she told The News. “He’s protecting his son. Now they are in trouble.”

Grabowski wasn’t at his Hartland Township home last week and neither was his son when Evans went to pick the boy up, authorities said. Evans and Grabowski were never married, according to Evans’ family.

On Thursday, a YouTube video was posted that showed Connor saying he hadn’t been kidnapped.

“I’m fine. I was not kidnapped. I came on my own will. The reason I came is because I just wanted to get away from my old life and start a new one,” the YouTube video shows Connor saying.

Bezotte said Friday Connor seemed unnatural in the video, which led him to believe that his father told him to appear in the video.

“We believe he was coached and coerced,” Bezotte said. On the video, Connor asked to go to a location, which he never mentions, for his birthday, which was Aug. 24.

Markus said Friday she also believed Grabowski forced Connor to make the YouTube video.

“I can’t believe he is doing this to this little boy,” Markus said. “I’m kind of partial, but it looks scripted.”

Authorities had thought Grabowski could have been in any of a half-dozen states.

Grabowski has two other known residences in Acadia, Mich., and Cameron, Mont., and authorities have contacted sheriff’s offices in Montana and in nearby areas of Idaho, Bezotte said.

“He’s been talking a lot to people about Connor’s mom, but he hasn’t been going through the court system,” Bezotte said.

Evans contacted authorities Aug. 30 after no one answered the door at Grabowski’s home on Jeni Lane in Hartland Township, and calls to his cellphone showed it was out of service. When Evans contacted authorities, she was advised to wait 24 hours before filing a missing persons report.

“It was so frustrating,” Evans said Thursday. “It was probably the plan to do it over the holiday weekend.”

There was another red flag in the days before Connor disappeared. He was set to begin fifth grade at Richmond Middle School in Macomb County but didn’t receive a school schedule. When Evans spoke to school officials, she said they told her they expected Connor to attend Oxford Community Schools in Oakland County.

Under a joint-custody agreement, Connor spends summers with his father and the school year with his mother.

Drug Dog Sweep Avon, Ohio Pot in Student’s Car

AVON – A police dog detected marijuana in a car that belonged to a student during a routine drug sweep at Avon High School on Tuesday, said Sgt. Robert Olds.

The police bring K-9 units to check lockers and vehicles at the school at least once a year.

“One of the K-9s hit a vehicle in the parking lot driven by a juvenile,” Olds said. Police found a small bag of a green leafy substance in the car driven by a 16-year-old student. The drugs were seized.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

The juvenile was cited in Lorain County Juvenile Court for juvenile delinquency by reason of possession of marijuana.

Olds said the high school has a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. Police inform the students lockers and cars can be searched.

There was no other narcotics found during the sweep. Surrounding area police departments assisted.

A call to the high school principal was not returned.

This is the second run-in with the law Avon High students have had this year. Late August, an unspecified number of Avon High School football players were suspended after violating team rules regarding underage drinking that took place at a party. Police were called to an Evergreen Drive residence because they received reports of a mailbox being destroyed and cars being broken into. The 17-year-old boy hosting the party said that he was hosting a party with “low quantities” of alcohol being drunk. Officers found 15 juveniles hiding in the house including members of the Avon Eagles Football Team.

Wrongful Death Easley, South Carolina Double Homicide and Suicide

A popular football player sent a final, desperate text to his girlfriend from his house before his stepfather gunned he and his mother down and shot himself in the head.

Last month, 15-year-old Daniel Smith was shot in the throat by his stepfather William Thomas, who also killed his wife, Sandy Smith.

Now, Daniel’s girlfriend Brittany Johnson is trying to collect donations to help pay for his funeral and burial costs.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The smilling 14-year-old brunette, who lives in Easley, South Carolina, has been working on signs asking for donations for Daniel. She told FOX Caronia: ‘It’s just the least I can do for him now.’

She added that she hopes the act honours his memory.

Daniel was a member of the Junior-Varsity football team, as well as the JV wrestling team, according to the Easley Patch. He was described as friendly and hard-working by his teachers and coaches.

But he never let on to his friends at Easley that his home life was less than perfect.

The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office said that Thomas, 51, became violent because of an on-going domestic problem.

Daniel had been texting Brittany the night of August 30, with his last message reading: ‘Please come get me.’

Terrified, Brittany and her father rushed over to their home, also in Easley.

Meanwhile, Daniel had called 911 to report he and his mother had been shot. According to reports, authorities arrived within six minutes of the call, and found Daniel’s mother Sandy with a gunshot wound to the chest in the family’s dining room.

They discovered Daniel in a bedroom. He had been shot under his chin.

Assistant Sheriff Tim Morgan told Greenville Online that an officer followed a trail of blood and found Thomas, dead, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Both Daniel and his mother were pronounced dead at the scene. They were both buried on September 3 after a service at Marathon Church.

Daniel and Brittany had met at the same church in Powersville. Brittany’s father said that she helped lead him to Christianity.

Members of their youth group released balloons into the sky on Wednesday as a way of remembering the slain teenager.

Brittany told FOX Carolina that she will always remember Daniel fondly. ‘He loved to make people laugh and he loved to make people smile,’ she said.

The death has hit hard at the high school. Grief counsellors were made available for those needing assistance.
Big heart: Friends and classmates said Daniel always loved to make people laugh

One of Daniel’s friends, Josh Leisten, told Greenvilleonline.com a day after his murder that Daniel was always upbeat. ‘He just tried to make everybody laugh,’ Josh said.

Thomas had a history peppered with domestic violence charges. In 2008, he was charged with criminal domestic violence of a ‘high and aggravated nature,’ but his wife Sandy would not cooperate with the investigation. The charges were later dropped.

Authorities said the couple had been married for ten years. According to authorities, they were planning to go on holiday to Tennessee the last weekend in August.

Sandy’s siblings told Greenvilleonline.com that she had recently opened up a dog-grooming business. She had always been a lover of horses, and owned several of the creatures.

Clayton Smith said at his sister’s funeral earlier this week that Thomas had abused her repeatedly throughout their ten-year marriage.

He told FOX Carolina: ‘Your family is not the enemy, but when violence is part of your life and you add the fuel, drugs, alcohol, peer pressure – this is the end result.’

The mother and son were buried at a nearby cemetery after the funeral.

A London, England man has been indicted for traveling to the U.S. to have sexual contact with a minor.

A federal grand jury in Lexington indicted 41-year-old Solomon Blue Waters Thursday for using a facility in interstate or foreign commerce to persuade, induce, entice, and coerce a minor to engage in sexual activity, and for traveling into the United States for
the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct.

The Indictment alleges that beginning around mid-June, 2011 until approximately July 6, 2012, Waters used the internet to induce a minor in Pikeville, Ky., to engage in sexual activity.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Last week, Waters traveled from the United Kingdom to Fayette County to engage in sexual conduct with a minor according to the indictment.

On August 28, federal authorities arrested Waters after he arrived at Blue Grass Airport.

Waters’ appearance before the United States District Court has not yet been set by the Court in Pikeville. Wrongful Death Lynwood, CA Man Arrested After Dumping Body

A man led deputies on a late-night pursuit after allegedly shooting a female passenger, dumping her body, then barricading himself, officials said. He gave himself up after a two-hour standoff early Friday morning.

Juan Diego Valencia, 28, was arrested and charged with murder after the episode, said Lt. Holly Francisco of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident began about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, when a deputy sheriff tried to stop a car on the 4100 block of Alma Avenue in Lynwood, Francisco said. The deputy saw a flash and heard a gunshot coming from the car, which then bolted from the scene and sped off, she said.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

With several deputies eventually in pursuit, the car slowed at one point and the driver pushed a woman’s body out of the car and onto the street at Josephine Street and Harris Avenue in Lynwood, Francisco said.

A few deputies left the chase to attend to the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the torso, she said. The woman has not been identified.

Other deputies chased the car for about 10 miles into Hawthorne, where the driver, later identified as Valencia, fled on foot, Francisco said. He barricaded himself in an apartment in the 14000 block of Chadron Avenue, where he’d been staying recently, she said.

Special Enforcement deputies and a crisis negotiation team arrived and evacuated several nearby apartments, Francisco said. At about 1:20 a.m., Valencia surrendered to deputies without further incident, she said.

Early Friday, Francisco said investigators were still working the different crime scenes, and were still not clear as to the motive in the shooting.

“We’re unsure of the relationship between suspect and the victim,” Francisco said.
