Private Detective Franklin County Woman Shot by Neighbor

A tense scene unfolded on Manley Leestown Road in Franklin County Thursday night. Just before 6:00 pm, a woman was shot in the head in her home, and when police arrived, the suspect, 38-year-old Mona Maupin, still had a gun and had taken off.

The Franklin County Sheriff says the victim is in critical but stable condition at UK Hospital. Meanwhile, the woman charged in the shooting is behind bars.

Sheriff Pat Melton says an argument between neighbors turned violent, and Mona Maupin allegedly fired shots into the next door home. A woman who neighbors say is a grandmother was shot in the head, and right next to her,

“There was a 5-year-old child in the residence that was shot at, right next to the victim,” says Sheriff Pat Melton of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department.

Luckily that child wasn’t hit. Three other adults were apparently on the front porch of the house too. Because investigators say Maupin was still armed and dangerous when they got to the scene, they had to secure the victim’s home first before they could get medical triage to her.

A KSP Sergeant found Mona Maupin a short time later, hiding in the woods. Investigators say they recovered the weapon.

Maupin is booked in the Franklin County Regional Jail. Among her charges are one count of criminal intent to commit murder, assault first, and three counts of wanton endangerment.

Missing Persons Mother and Son Missing Since 1982, Never Reported

PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW) –

The last time Marie Jost was heard from was 1982. But every month since, her social security checks have been sent out, and authorities say every one of them has been cashed.

Now, three of her family members are sitting in jail.

“It’s definitely unusual,” Captain Dale O’Kray from the Portage County Sheriff’s Department said.

For two days sheriff’s deputies have been searching Jost’s property for any sign of the 100-year-old woman and her 74-year-old son, Theodore.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“It’s basically an episode of Hoarders,” Captain O’Kray said. “There’s just a ton of stuff to go through.”

Investigators say their home, located in Amherst Junction, is uninhabitable with trash piled to the ceiling and no running water. They say that makes their search even more difficult.

“We have to start somewhere and we’re starting with the property and collecting as many clues as we can,” Captain O’Kray explained.

Jost and her son have been missing for almost 30 years. Their family never reported them gone.

“That’s the suspicious part,” O’Kray said.

This all started last week when Portage County authorities were contacted by the Social Security Administration asking them to check on Marie. But, when they got to her home, authorities say Marie’s son, Charles, was the only one there.

“He said she (Marie’s) has been on a trip since 1982. That’d be a long trip,” O’Kray said.

Now, cadaver dogs have been searching their home. Authorities say evidence has led them to believe Marie and her son could be buried on their own property.

“We have no indication she’d be somewhere else,” said O’Kray.

After further investigation, authorities arrested Charles Jost and two other family members, Delores and Ronald Disher. They say the group has been cashing Marie’s social security checks and keeping the money for themselves.

“The family is not very cooperative,” O’Kray said. “Their stories keep changing.”

On Thursday, Charles, Ronald, and Delores appeared in Portage County court. But their defense lawyers declined to comment. They told Newsline 9 it was still too early in the case.

All three remain in jail after a judge decided there is enough evidence of a crime, and enough evidence that they were likely responsible. Formal chargers are expected when the three return to court in two weeks. For now, they remain in jail on a $20,000 cash bond.

Authorities ask anyone with information on Marie or Theodore Jost to call the Portage County Sheriff’s Department.

Missing Persons 13 Year Old Stole Brother’s Car and is Driving to KY

Police say a 13 year-old from Texas stole her brother’s car, and could be on her way to Kentucky. Authorities say Elizabeth Robinson is driving to Hodgenville to meet a 12 year-old boy she met playing video games.

Thursday, police have tracked the girl to southern Arkansas, where they say she used her mother’s debit card. She’s said to have driven more than 200 miles so far, in brown, four door, 2011 Nissan Versa, with license plate DB2B924.

Robinson was last seen in her home around 9:30 wednesday night.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

TV stations in Texas report she left a note for her mom saying she was being bullied, and she would be sleeping over at a girlfriend’s house. But then her mom, Tressa Robinson, found an email that said she was going to meet a 12-year-old boy in Kentucky. He’s a gamer she met while playing xbox online. The two had apparently been talking for weeks.

Tressa Robinson says her daughter had recently asked questions about her brother’s car, such as what kind of gas mileage it gets.

The trip from her home in Cypress, Texas to Hodgenville is more than 900 miles, and despite the police work that points to Arkansas, the teen’s parents have no idea where their daughter is.

Robinson’s dad couldn’t stand to wait for police to track down his little girl. We’re told he got in the car and headed toward Arkansas this afternoon. If you have any information about where Elizabeth could be, call police.

FORT WALTON BEACH – A traffic stop resulted in a Fort Walton Beach man being arrested on drug charges.

On Aug. 30 an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy stopped a white Buick on Green Acres Road because the tag light was burned out.

During the stop, another deputy arrived with his K-9 unit and conducted a free-air sniff of the vehicle. The dog alerted to the presence of drugs.

Missing Persons Storeowners Saw Missing SC Boy Weeks After Reported Missing

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — A South Carolina toddler and his mother visited a Lexington consignment store weeks after the boy was reported missing, the storeowner testified Thursday.

“I asked them what they were doing for the holidays,” Laura Beaver said of her interaction with Zinah Jennings and her son, Amir. “He was a wonderful baby.”

Beaver testified that the pair came into her shop just a day or two before Christmas Eve, nearly a month after Nov. 28, 2011, when authorities have said the then-18-month-old boy was last seen. That day, Amir and his mother were captured on surveillance video during a visit to a Columbia bank.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Jennings is on trial this week on a charge of unlawful conduct toward a child. Authorities say she told them false, misleading stories about where the boy was, and she has been jailed since December.

Beaver said that Amir sat in a chair near the front of her store so that she could watch him while his mother shopped. Beaver, a former Columbia police officer, said that her surveillance equipment wasn’t recording, so there was no video of the visit.

Prosecutors pressed Beaver on cross examination, questioning her motives and asking why she remembered the visit so vividly. The shop owner said she had never called to try to claim the $10,000 reward being offered for information leading to Amir, saying she just wanted to help find him.

“It isn’t about the money,” she said. “It’s about the child.”

A police investigator testified that he didn’t find Beaver’s story credible. Another officer described chasing down a false tip that Amir had been sighted in Abbeville.

Jennings’ attorneys rested their case Thursday, and closing arguments were expected later in the day. Jennings spoke in court for the first time during her trial Thursday, answering routine questions from the judge about whether she wanted to testify in her own defense. She said she did not.

Jennings faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted. Her mother testified Wednesday that she never felt Jennings would harm her son.

Last week, a witness for the prosecution said that Jennings was overwhelmed with the stress of parenting and had pondered selling or giving away the boy.

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) –

The family of missing child Isabel Celis planned to celebrate their daughter’s 7th birthday with a special Mass at church, praying for her safe return.

Isabel Celis vanished from her bedroom more than four months ago.

Her parents, Sergio and Becky Celis spoke to Tucson News Now on Sunday, saying they had not lost hope, and were still optimistic that their daughter would be coming home soon.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

They asked the community to pick up new flyers and posters, and re-post them in neighborhoods throughout Tucson, and they asked for more prayers.
“Anybody who’d like to come and pray for Isabel please come,” said Becky Celis.

Her family was preparing to celebrate Isa’s birthday by getting her room ready, and talking about things she would have enjoyed on her birthday.

“We’re trying to get her room nice and pretty, just fix it up. That’s where my concentration has been, but it’s really hard for me to see her picture and know she’s not going to be here for her birthday,” said Becky Celis.

Isabel’s father, Sergio Celis added that they would never lose hope. They wanted her room to be ready, in case they got the call from police that she would be coming home tomorrow.

Dozens of strangers posted birthday wishes on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Isabel Celis. Family members said they planned to celebrate their child’s birthday as though she were there, to enjoy it with them.

“We’ll have balloons, donuts early in the morning,” said Sergio Celis.

Becky Celis added, “She just loves to be home and be together as a family. We’ll have balloons for sure, we’ll do that tomorrow that before Mass.” :56

The special birthday Mass was scheduled to take place on Monday evening at 6:30 PM, at the family’s home church, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Parish, near Broadway and Craycroft.

Officers arrested the student Wednesday morning as he was getting of the school bus. Police charged the juvenile with 32 counts of terroristic threatening second degree.

Officials say parents of students named on the list were notified by phone.

Missing Persons Bourbonais Man Still Missing

The search for missing Bourbonnais man, Richard Roberts, continues this week as local and Chicago police have been unable to find the 47-year-old since he left work early more than two weeks ago.

Roberts’ disappearance was first reported by The Daily Journal on Aug. 28, eight days after he left work early due to chest pains. The story was picked up by several Chicagoland media outlets Wednesday when Chicago police issued a missing person alert.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Roberts was last seen leaving work Aug. 20 in the 11700 block of South State Street on the South Side of Chicago. He was driving a purple 1993 Ford Ranger with Illinois license plate 29641Y, police said.

According to one published report, police said calls to Roberts’ cellphone were still going through recently, but no calls had been made by the phone.

His sister-in-law, Diana Roberts, told The Daily Journal that Roberts usually responds quickly to text messages and always takes calls.

Diana said Roberts suffers from pancreas and liver cancer. He has a tattoo on his left shoulder that reads “Louise” and has tribal tattoos on both forearms.

Anyone with information about Roberts’ possible whereabouts is being asked to contact the Chicago Police Department at 312-747-8274.

Identity Theft Bellingham, WA Man Arrested on 113 Counts of Identity Theft

BELLINGHAM – A Bellingham man suspected of stealing checks, credit cards, passports, licenses and mail from more than 100 Whatcom County residents was booked into jail last week.

Frankie Michael Mazzei, 28, was initially booked by Bellingham Police for investigation of second- and third-degree possession of stolen property on Aug. 30.

Mazzei now faces charges for 113 counts of second-degree identity theft, 95 counts of third-degree possession of stolen property, four counts of second-degree possession of stolen property and three counts of unlawful possession of payment instruments, according to a Sept. 5 release from police spokesman Mark Young.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Detectives were conducting a separate investigation and interviewing residents at Mazzei’s home in the 2400 block of McKenzie Avenue Aug. 30 when they saw what appeared to be stolen mail and checks in plain view, Young said. The officers got a search warrant and arrested Mazzei.

Police believe all of the recovered property was stolen from Whatcom County residents, mostly from unlocked mailboxes and parked vehicles, Young said.

Police are still attempting to contact all of the victims.

Mazzei has previous convictions for theft, burglary, possession of stolen property, forgery and vehicle prowling, according to court records.
