Wrongful Death Women’s Body Found in Freezer in a Pike County yard

Investigators say they should know Sunday morning if a body found inside a freezer buried in a Pike County yard is that of a missing woman.

Bruce Dillon was arrested Friday night, charged with murdering his wife, Sherry Dillon, who was reported missing back in early July. Crews searched the area around the couple’s Belfry home Friday, finding the buried remains.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“I was in shock,” said Crystal Price, the Dillons’ neighbor and friend. “Would I ever have expected in a million years he would done something like that? Absolutely not.”

Price spoke highly of Bruce Dillon, saying she didn’t think he was capable of such a gruesome act.

“He was funny. He was loving to his children. He was loving to her,” Price said. “It’s eery to think that I could’ve been out here when he was doing that to her, you know?”

The Pike County Coroner confirmed the woman’s remains were inside of a freezer.

“That makes him look guilty,” said Price. “Anyone that you ever loved, you wouldn’t just throw them out like a piece of trash.”

While Dillon has been charged with killing his wife, the coroner said an autopsy on the body found will not be performed until Sunday morning, meaning the remains have yet to be positively identified.

Still, the Dillons’ neighbors are confident the remains are those of Sherry Dillon.

Bruce Dillon is charged with murder (domestic violence) and abuse of a corpse. He declined LEX 18’s request for an interview from the Pike County Jail.

Wrongful Death Gary Douglas Baker Found Slain

Linn County investigators on Wednesday found the body of Waterloo resident Gary Douglas Baker, 69, on his wooded property near the South Santiam River, and the death is being investigated as a homicide.

Baker was last seen July 30.

Detectives have identified someone they termed a “person of interest” in the killing, but they have not named the individual. They said Friday that the investigation was continuing, and that there was no reason to believe there is any danger to the community. Sheriff Tim Mueller announced the discovery of the body Friday.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Detectives had discovered the body on Wednesday after serving a search warrant on Baker’s residence at 39440 Woodbine Drive, where the unmarried Baker lived with his 17-year-old nephew, Jonathan Stuart Baker.

Deputies had checked the property on July 31 and on Aug. 1 and 3, but Wednesday’s search was much more extensive. Baker’s vehicle, which originally had been reported missing, was found on his five-acre property.

“A post-mortem examination performed by the medical examiner revealed that Mr. Baker was killed by homicidal violence,” the sheriff wrote in a press release.

On July 31, business associates of Baker’s reported that he had not attended any of his scheduled appointments. They told deputies that this is very unlike Baker and thought something may have happened to him. Baker was a marketing associate with Smart Media Technologies, which is based in Henderson, Nev.

On Aug. 1 and 3, other business associates also became concerned when Baker uncharacteristically missed several appointments.

Detectives continued to interview associates of Baker’s, including friends and family and his nephew, who had been taken into custody on Monday morning following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 5, according to police logs.

The pursuit started near the Linn County line and went into Marion County, where the teen left the freeway at the Sunnyside-Turner exit and was apprehended in what Linn County authorities termed a high-risk traffic stop. The Oregon State Police assisted. The teen was booked into the Linn County Jail on charges of felony attempt to elude and reckless driving and remains in custody.

Insurance Fraud Scott Sanders, 40 Convicted

NEW YORK — A former New City man once convicted of committing insurance fraud in Rockland County was charged Friday with committing similar crimes in New York City.

Scott Sanders, 40, who owns fleets of commercial vehicles, is alleged to have participated in a nine-year, $10 million scheme designed to obtain significantly lower insurance premiums for his cars, said U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Sanders, of Saddle River, N.J., is accused of filing fraudulent insurance applications with the New York Automobile Insurance Plan between 2003 and 2012, claiming he was operating and storing his vehicles outside of the city.

Bharara said Sanders’ fleet of cars actually did operate and was housed within the city’s borders during that time and that, by lying about those facts, he was able to obtain substantially lower insurance premiums.

Sanders is also accused of assisting other fleet owners whose vehicles operated in New York City of using the same illegal tactics to obtain lower premiums, Bharara said.

All told, the alleged scheme is believed to have cost several insurance companies more than $10 million.

Both Sanders and his father, Dean Sanders, forfeited more than $1 million in cash, expensive cars and property in Nyack, Manhattan, Florida and upstate New York after being found guilty of racketeering. They also each served jail time.

On Friday, Scott Sanders was indicted in Manhattan federal court, where he was charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, five counts of mail fraud and one of aggravated identity theft, Bharara said.

Aggravated identity theft carries a maximum of two years in prison; each of the other charges brought against the 40-year-old carries a maximum of 20 years.

Electronic Surveillance Microsoft Teams up with NYPD to Create Citywide Surveillance

Microsoft is getting into the spy business. The tech firm has teamed with the New York Police Department to create a citywide terror and crimefighting surveillance system that could eventually find itself spread throughout cities around the world.

The system is a complex web of video cameras, radiation detectors, and license plate readers located around the city as well as 911 calls and crime statistics, all of which work together to provide “near-instant” information to law enforcement agencies.

http://liarcatchers.com/electronic_surveillance.html

The surveillance system will be so advanced that it will allow investigators to immediately local a suspect’s car, determine where it has been for the last month, and even determine if another suspect’s vehicle is following close behind.

Dubbed the Domain Awareness System, New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg has called the program “a one-stop shop for law enforcement.”

Microsoft is supplying the IT while the New York Police Department (NYPD) will bring its operational know-how to the project.

If the program is a success, it could mean a revenue windfall for New York City as Microsoft would provide NYC with 30 percent of the profit from sales to police departments in other American cities and friendly countries.

New York City officials have spent $40 million creating the state-of-the-art platform which they hope will curb crime while reducing wasteful time spent investigating basic publicly available facts about any given case.

According to a story in Freep.com, the body of Patrick Mikes Sr, 55, has been found, as has his missing bicycle.
Already, Mr. Mikes son, Patrick Mikes Jr., has been charged with open murder, as police have long suspected foul play.
Numerous officers from Troy have been searching in Montrose, near Flint, after being told that a suspicious car had been driving back and forth recently.
The amount of blood and other evidence led police to believe that Mr. Mikes had been killed inside the basement of his home. DNA tests confirmed that the blood belonged to Mr. Mikes and to his son.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html
Troy’s police chief, Gary Mayer, confirmed to the Freep.com that Mr. Mikes body was found in a cornfield.
Though initially the case was one of a missing person, police moved quickly to calling the case a homicide and charging the younger Mikes with credit card fraud.
The neighborhood was surprised at the case and had been hopeful that the father, a widower, would be found and that the son would not be involved.
Troy police declined comment until the press conference
