Pedophile Tracking Pedophile used Facebook to Target 10 Yr Old

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — One South Bend mother learned a hard lesson about the dangers of social media. She said a pedophile targeted her 10-year-old daughter on Facebook by setting up a fake account and pretending to be a teenage boy.

She said her daughter really liked this boy. She even set up a day and a time to meet him at Hamilton Elementary on Jackson Road. That meeting came very close to actually happening, which is why this mother wants to warn other parents.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

With over 900 million users and counting, Facebook has quickly become very popular with teens and even young kids.

Now, one South Bend mother said she will not let her kids near social media again.

“She is not allow on the Internet, she is not allowed to answer the phone, she is not allow to give out her name and number anymore,” said the mother who did not wish to be identified.

She said her 10-year-old daughter added a boy she did not know. The name on the profile read “Dustin Bieger”, which is very similar to the popular teen pop star Justin Bieber. The supposed 13-year-old’s profile is only one month old, and was created back on July 5.

Still, her daughter arranged to meet him at Hamilton Elementary School, on the city’s south side. When her mother found out, she went on to her daughter’s Facebook page and logged in.

“I was instantly sick to my stomach,” she said.

She found days of conversations between her daughter and Facebook user going by the name “Dustin Bieger”. She said he asked her daughter questions like, “Can you talk dirty to me?” “Do you like older men?” and “Have you ever touched a boy’s penis?”

“This is not a 14-year-old boy. This is a grown man on the other end of this computer talking to my 10-year-old daughter.”

While on her daughter’s account, she asked why he did not show up for their scheduled meeting at the school. He messaged her back and said he had seen police cars around area. He went on to say he was not sure that she was a real girl and felt like it was a trap set up by police.

Her mother’s intuition kicked in and she immediately called police to report it.

“I mean there is an entire neighborhood of kids. It’s not just my children whose safety is an issue now. There is an entire neighborhood at risk,” said the mom.

Now, she wants other parents to be aware of the dangers and take a closer look at their kids’ Facebook pages.

“She had to learned a hard lesson at a young age and hopefully it will stick with her for whole life,” said the mom.

Her daughter not only gave out the family’s home phone number, but also the family’s home address. Since then, the car the boy said he would be riding in has been seen driving past the house on more than one occasion. That is why police are taking this very seriously and have assigned a detective to look into it further.

Identity Theft Beaverton Police Ask for Help

The Beaverton Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying three people suspected of stealing a woman’s wallet and charging $16,000 on her bank and credit cards.

On July 22, the woman called police and reported that her wallet was stolen while she was shopping at T.J. Maxx in Beaverton, said Officer Mike Rowe, a Beaverton police spokesman. The woman told police she became distracted in the store when another woman started talking to her.

When the woman tried to pay for her items, she discovered her wallet was missing, Rowe said. She looked for her wallet in her car and at home but couldn’t find it.

The woman, Rowe said, then called her bank and credit card company and found that her cards were used at several stores in the Beaverton area. She then reported the theft to police, Rowe said. Investigators are looking into whether the woman who started talking to the victim is involved in the incident.

Rowe said investigators determined her cards were used at stores in and near Washington Square Mall, including at the Apple Store, Nordstrom, Victoria’s Secret and Best Buy.

The Keizer Police Department, Rowe said, is investigating another case with suspects who have a similar description.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Beaverton Police Department at 503-629-0111.

Missing Person Jeffrey Powell’s Body Located

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation has confirmed, through a fingerprint comparison, that a body found in Lincoln County Wednesday evening is that of Jeffrey B. Powell, 37, who has been missing since the evening of July 31, Sheriff Glen Kochanowski said.

Kochanowski said the Saline County Sheriff’s Office was notified about 7 p.m. Wednesday by the KBI that “good information” had been received about the location of Powell’s body.

Sheriff’s officers then assisted KBI officers in recovering the body in Lincoln County, northwest of the Saline County border.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Kochanowski declined to give further information about where the body was found or its condition.

Kyle A. Nelson, 29, was arrested Aug. 2 on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Powell’s death. He is being held in Saline County Jail on $500,000 bond. Nelson, who authorities say was the last person known to have been with Powell, is accused of killing him July 31 east of the Salina city limits on North Street.

Powell was initially reported to be missing. However, the next day Nelson was arrested and accused of Powell’s murder, and authorities said they were searching for Powell’s body.

Kochanowski said no changes in the charges against Nelson are expected as a result of the body’s discovery. He said the investigation is ongoing, and he didn’t know if any other arrests would be made.

Kochanowski said evidence at the location at which the body was found was being processed by the KBI. The body was taken to Kansas City for an autopsy.

Help received from community members in the investigation has been appreciated, Kochanowski said. He said he hopes that finding Powell’s body will make it possible for his family to have a sense of closure.

Kochanowski said officers from the Salina Police Department, Saline and Lincoln County sheriff’s offices and KBI have had “outstanding cooperation” while interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence in the case.

“This is how law enforcement is supposed to work,” he said.

Identity Theft Jessenia Colon Arrested

HERNANDO COUNTY —

A woman has been arrested after trying to cash a check belonging to one person and using the stolen identification of another, say deputies.

An employee at a Bank of America on Spring Hill Drive called deputies, providing them with a description of the suspect and the vehicle.

Deputies found the vehicle abandoned and later a woman matching the description of the suspect, identified as Jessenia Colon.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Deputies say Colon admitted to being the driver of the vehicle in question and to attempting to cash the check at the Bank of America.

Detectives then made contact with both victims and found that both items (check and ID) were recently stolen and reported to their local law enforcement agencies.

The victims recently had their vehicles burglarized at gas stations while they were pumping gas, deputies say. One incident occurred in Pasco County, the other in Hillsborough County.

Colon was transported to the Hernando County detention center where she is being charged with one count of organized scheme to defraud and one count of identity theft. Her bond is $2,000.

Two other suspects are being sought.

Fraud Investigation Investment Fraud Involving Michael Steven Banuelos

(Source: FBI) – SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public’s assistance regarding the alleged investment fraud investigation involving Michael Steven Banuelos.

If you have information related to this case, please contact FBI San Francisco’s tip line at 415-553-7400 or e-mail us at San.Francisco@ic.fbi.gov.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

In an announcement made by the United States Attorney Office for the Northern District of California on July 26, federal authorities arrested Michael Steven Banuelos after a federal grand jury in San Francisco indicted him for wire fraud and money laundering resulting from his operation of an alleged investment scheme through which he defrauded investors out of more than $2 million.

According to the indictment, Banuelos, 41, falsely claimed to victims that he could arrange—and, in fact, had arranged—lucrative business deals for aspiring musicians. Banuelos allegedly convinced his victims to invest substantial amounts of money, and he promised high rates of return on those investments once the purported entertainment contracts came to fruition. Instead of using the more than $2 million he received from investors to secure these purported deals; however, Banuelos allegedly used most of the funds on personal expenses, including alimony, luxury cars, private jets, a country club membership, and expensive clothing and jewelry.

Banuelos was arrested in Chicago and is in custody. He recently relocated there after having lived in and around Atlanta for many years.

The maximum statutory penalty for each count of wire fraud, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1343, is 20 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine. The maximum statutory penalty for the money laundering count, in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 1957, is 10 years in prison plus a $250,000 fine. Any sentence following conviction, however, would be imposed by the court after consideration of the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and the federal statute governing the imposition of a sentence, 18 U.S.C. § 3553.

Members of the San Francisco area media should call FBI Public Affairs Specialist Julianne Sohn at 415- 553-7450.

Members of the Chicago area media should call FBI Special Agent Royden “Ross” Rice at 312-421-1199.

Insurance Fraud Mae Anne Fattaleh

A Schuyler woman will spend more than two years behind bars and pay more than $100,000 in restitution after being convicted in Charlottesville Circuit Court of selling false insurance policies.

Mae Anne Fattaleh, 40, was the owner and operator of M.A.S. Insurance Services Inc. and M.A.S. Insurance Agency, both of which had offices in the Charlottesville area, according to a news release from the Virginia State Police.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

The state police were notified that Fattaleh was selling nonexistent insurance policies by the Bureau of Insurance in February 2009. She was arrested in August 2009 and charged with obtaining money by false pretense, a felony.

The release says that in January 2011, while out on bond, Fattaleh was arrested again on other insurance fraud-related charges, including attempting to obtain money by false pretenses and writing bad checks. Fattaleh was also charged with credit card theft in Nelson County, according to the release.

Fattaleh pleaded guilty to four counts of obtaining money by false pretense stemming from her 2009 arrest in the city’s Circuit Court in April. The charges brought against her in 2011 were dismissed.

She was sentenced last month to a total of 23 years in prison for the crimes, with all but 25 months of that time suspended. In addition, she will pay a total of $114,009.45 to the victims as restitution. Fattaleh is also responsible for paying over $2,000 in court costs, and will be on probation for the rest of her life.

@many501611′s profile photo was of 14-year-old Ronan Parke, an English singer who rose to prominence following his appearance on Britain’s Got Talent in April 2011. The account was suspended as of noon ET.

According to Twitter’s official child pornography policy, all tweets and accounts disseminating that sort of content should be reported to the microblog so it can be “removed from the site without further notice and reported to The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.”

Twitter also adds that those accounts will be permanently suspended from the site.

On June 5 Anonymous used the #TwitterPedoRing hashtag to expose alleged pedophiles using Twitter to inappropriately communicate with minors and share illegal content.

About a week after the campaign launched, the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested 190 child pornography offenders, although a direct connection to Anonymous could not be proven.
