Insurance Fraud Darrell Walker

A Jersey City man was arrested yesterday on charges he received more than $52,000 in life insurance funds intended for his estranged brother, according to prosecutors.

Darrell Walker, 53, was charged with second-degree insurance fraud and faces up to 10 years in jail, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began when the IRS notified the defendant’s brother, James Walker Jr., of Scotch Plains, that he owed outstanding taxes on an insurance payment he reportedly received in 2009, prosecutors said.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

Walker told the IRS he had received no payment, according to prosecutors, who said the insurance company investigated and determined that his sister had named him as the beneficiary on her life insurance policy before her 2008 death. He did not know about the policy, prosecutors said.

The insurance company found that someone had used James Walker’s name and Social Security number to collect on the insurance policy, prosecutors said.

With the HCPO Office involved, authorities determined that Darrell Walker, who had not spoken to his brother in “many years,” was the likely suspect, prosecutors said.

After their sister’s death, he contacted her insurance company, filed a claim and had the funds deposited in a bank account opened in James Walker’s name, but using Darrell Walker’s Jersey City address, according to prosecutors.

Checks drawn on the account indicate that Darrell Walker used the funds, which totaled more than $52,000, to cash checks and make payments on personal loans and credit cards, according to prosecutors.

Identity Theft Sarah Ann Rojas

An Austin woman who sold false IDs to a confidential informant last fall pleaded guilty and was convicted Monday of one felony charge in Mower County Court.

Sarah Ann Rojas, 32, was convicted of identity theft. She will be sentenced on July 13.

A confidential informant first met with a person on Aug. 23 about purchasing false identification, such as birth certificates and social security cards, according to the court complaint. The complaint then states that the informant went to meet with that same person, who did not show; however, the informant was then told to meet with a woman, Rojas, the court complaint.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

The complaint states that Rojas showed the informant an example of a Texas birth certificate and said she could sell pairs of birth certificates and social security cards for $800, the complaint states. Detectives watched Rojas and learned that she lived at the 1700 block of Third Avenue NW and that she would be moving to the 600 block of First Avenue NW.

Detectives then arranged for the informant to meet Rojas at McDonalds, where Rojas sold the informant the documents. Police then arrested Rojas and found other false documents on her. Authorities also got a search warrant to another residence where they found Texas birth certificates, a U.S. social security card, a Minnesota ID, handwritten notes and a notebook with multiple names and social security numbers.

According to the complaint, Rojas said the informant was the first person to whom she ever sold identification and did so to buy clothes for her kids.

The maximum penalty for identity theft is 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Pedophiles Can Legally View Child Porn in NY

Members of the New York Legislature are working to take swift action in response the state’s highest court ruling it is legal to view child porn.

The New York Court of Appeals ruled unanimously last week that viewing child porn online is not necessarily a crime. Morality in Media (MIM) president Pat Truman tells OneNewsNow the decision came in a case where authorities found more than 100 illegal images stored in the browser cache of a former Marist College professor’s work computer.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

In 2007, college technicians were examining the malfunctioning hard drive when they encountered the porn, much of which was downloaded and stored. This ruling does not change James Kent’s 141 convictions in connection to downloading child pornography, but it does reverse the two convictions dealing with porn discovered in the cache.

Pat Trueman”What they said is as long as you don’t download the material or take possession of it in some way, then you’re free to do that,” explains Trueman. “Well, of course this is a pedophile’s dream, and you’re going to have more child pornography produced and distributed because people in New York are free to view it now.”

He calls the ruling “an outrage.”

“This means that an individual can go online, look at child pornography, look at streaming video of children being raped, and that’s not a crime in New York,” the MIM president laments. “It is a crime in, I think, virtually every other state. It’s certainly a crime under federal law.”

He adds that the court “seemed to have bent over backwards to protect those who are looking at child pornography in New York.”

But Truman believes the ruling will be short-lived. In fact, within 24 hours of the court decision, New York lawmakers had already drafted legislation that would address the problem.

To counter similar rulings by two other federal appeals courts, Congress in 2008 amended federal child porn statuses to include language making it a crime to “knowingly access” child porn.

Electronic Surveillance Talking Street Lights

Talking surveillance cameras that bark orders at passers-by and can also record conversations are heading for U.S. streets, with manufacturer Illuminating Concepts announcing the progress of its ‘Intellistreets’ system.

As we first reported last year, high tech street lights with “homeland security applications” are now being installed in major U.S. cities.

http://liarcatchers.com/electronic_surveillance.html

The street lights also have loudspeakers that can give audible warnings to individuals, mimicking the talking surveillance cameras in the UK that shout out orders through microphones telling people to pick up litter or leave the area.

A recent press release put out by Amerlux announces the company’s partnership with Illuminating Concepts to further advance the rollout of ‘Intellistreets’. The announcement confirms that the street lights will have a number of “homeland security features” including a loudspeaker system that will be used to “engage captive audiences”

Drug Dog Sweep Greg Lisheski

Two men face charges after a drug bust on Interstate 80.

On May 12, the Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office arrested Greg Lisheski, 40, of Ventura, Calif., and Michael Christy, 38, of Hayden Lake, Idaho, after finding 18 pounds of marijuana in the pair’s vehicle.

At about 11:23 a.m., deputies pulled the pair over – in a white 2012 Kia Optima, with Lisheski driving – for excessive speed, according to Sheriff Jeff Danker.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

Deputies spoke with both men separately and found inconsistencies in their stories.

They reported said they were headed to Chicago, but their stories varied on where in Chicago they were going, what they would be doing and why they were going there, Danker said.

After the suspects denied a request to search the vehicle, authorities deployed a drug dog for an open-air sniff. The dog indicated there were drugs in the vehicle, and deputies found the marijuana in the trunk.

Sgt. Bob Christensen with the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Task Force said the marijuana had a street value of approximately $72,000.

Deputies seized the Kia, which was a rental car.

Both Lisheski and Christy were arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver-marijuana, tax stamp violation and prohibitive acts. Lisheski was also cited for excessive speed.

The pair was booked into the Pottawattamie County Jail and are free on $5,000 bond.

Missing Person Isabel Celis Update

The father of missing Tucson, Ariz., girl Isabel Celis sounds calm as he describes finding that the 6-year-old has disappeared from her bed and tells police he thinks she was abducted in the recordings of two 911 calls released today by police.

“I want to report a missing person,” Sergio Celis says on one of the two recordings, made the morning of April 21. “My little girl, who is 6 years old – I believe she was abducted from our house.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The second recording is of a call featuring Isabel’s 14-year-old brother, Sergio, who later gives the phone to his mother after she returns home from work. Both the boy and his mother are frantic, though the woman seems to control herself when she is asked for specific information about the girl’s height and weight, what she was wearing, and her hair and eyes.

Police today also discussed the decision to bar Sergio Celis from contact with his two sons, though they declined to provide any specifics about the reason for the decision. They said the move should not be interpreted as an indication that Sergio Celis is a suspect in his daughter’s disappearance.

“A voluntary agreement was reached between Child Protective Services and the parents to restrict access or, voluntarily, for Sergio to give some space and distance away from the two older children,” Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor said.

“This doesn’t mean that we have settled on a path with this investigation,” he said.

He added that investigators are looking at all possibilities.

“Probably, [there are] about 12 to 15 detectives that are assigned to follow external viewpoints on this investigation, the possibility of a stranger abduction or something of that like,” he said. “And then, we have probably four detectives or so that are following the possibility of inside-the-family involvement.”

Isabel Celis was reported missing by her father around 8 a.m. April 21 after her mother left for work and her father went to wake her up.

The girl was not in her room, and a bedroom window was opened with the screen removed, police said.

The little girl was last seen around 11 p.m. April 20, when she was put to bed.

After Isabel was reported missing, police interviewed 15 registered sex offenders in the neighborhood.

Police have searched homes in the family’s neighborhood, dug through a nearby landfill and searched waterways and drainage systems in Tucson. More than 1,000 tips have poured in regarding the 6-year-old’s disappearance, police said.

Isabel’s parents made several public, emotional pleas for the safe return of their daughter in the days after her disappearance.

Drug Dog Sweep Jose Duran

ELYRIA — An appeals court recently upheld a decision that a Highway Patrol trooper conducted an illegal search of an Illinois man’s car, thereby making the duffle bag of marijuana found in the trunk inadmissible as evidence.

Jose Duran was stopped by troopers for speeding on the Ohio Turnpike in Lorain County in October 2009. While another trooper was finishing a background check on Duran, the trooper, who was part of a K-9 unit, walked his dog around the vehicle and the dog alerted at the front passenger door. When the trooper searched the area, however, he found nothing, according to court records.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

The trooper then searched the rest of the vehicle, ultimately finding a duffle bag containing 31 pounds of marijuana in the back of the car, court documents state.

In its decision, the 9th District Court of Appeals stated because the officer found no contraband in the only place the dog alerted to — the front passenger seat — the trooper did not have probable cause to search the rest of the vehicle, and the marijuana evidence was not admissible in court.

Lorain County Common Pleas Court Judge Mark Betleski ruled in March 2011 to suppress the marijuana evidence based on an illegal search. The state appealed that decision to the appeals court, which affirmed the judge’s decision.

Pedophile Tracking Anonymous Hacks Ped Site

Anonymous hacks pedophile website, leaks admin and user account information. This week hacktivists associated with the international Internet collective known as Anonymous hacked into a child pornography website identified as Kindzazachan.

The successful hack is being billed as a return of Operation Darknet (#OpDarknetV2). Last October, working under Operation Darknet, Anonymous hacked Lolita City, a darknet website used by pedophiles to trade in child pornography. At that time Anonymous released usernames and related information of more than 1,500 pedophiles trading in kiddie porn.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Anonymous announced the hack of child porn website Kindzazachan on May 11, by issuing a Pastebin release. The following is an excerpt from that release:

As our first official attack for #OpDarknetV2, we bring you something that we are sure you will enjoy. One of our members managed to find an SQL injection vuln on a pedophile onion website that goes by the name of Kindzazachan, he breached the servers, and now we bring you the leak of data from the website. We warned you pedos, we told you we were coming for you.

Anonymous announced the return of Operation Darknet via Pastebin earlier this month. The following is an excerpt from that announcement:

We anons were once again wandering through the darknet, and again found the pedophiles have grown stronger since our previous attacks… This is absolutely unacceptable, the disgusting content on over 40 child pornography sites grow larger and we will not sit back and watch, we will make a stand once again with the destruction of freedom hosting, lolita city, and any other website geared towards the trading of content with rape/pedophilia. Tor is not our target, only the sites hosting the child pornography are the targets. We shall return with
bear rugs. Chris Hansen is coming. Expect us.
#OpDarknetV2 engaged.

OpDarknetV2 and the hack on Kindzazachan is associated with a Twitter account identified as @PrOtOn_An0n.

Identity Theft FedEx Driver

DARIEN, Conn. — A FedEx driver was approached twice in one week by somebody who police believe might be committing identity theft. Police said the man who approached the driver has been having computers shipped to homes in town and trying to intercept them before they are delivered.

The first incident occurred May 4, when the driver was parked in a parking lot on Parklands Drive. A man approached him and asked him for packages that were to be delivered to a home on Bayberry Lane. He showed the driver a New York license with the recipient’s name, but the driver did not turn over the packages because he believed the license was fake.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

The packages that were to be delivered to the Bayberry Lane house contained four laptop computers. The resident had not ordered the computers, and was the victim of identity theft.

On May 8, the same man approached the same driver in the parking lot of 90 Post Road. He again asked for a package that was to be delivered, this time on Prospect Avenue. This time, the man claimed to be the resident of that house.

The driver recognized the man and refused to turn over the packages. The man then drove away. Again, the packages contained computers, which the resident had not ordered.

The driver described the man who approached him as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s. He was seen driving a silver Audi with New York registration.
