Wrongful Death Marty Saucier killed 3 Family members

AUCIER — SAUCIER — The man accused of killing three of his family members is hospitalized and under guard, but has been arrested on three counts of murder. The three bodies were found this morning.

Harrison County Sheriff’s Capt. Ron Pullen said Justice Court Judge Diane Ladner set bonds for Marty Saucier at a total of $15 million.

Saucier needs surgery, Pullen said, and investigators have not been able to question him yet.
Marty Saucier, suspect in a triple homicide in Saucier.
Authorities do not yet have a booking mug of him, but have released his driver’s license picture.

Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said Saucier had been having problems with his parents, and his mother in particular. “I think today was just the breaking point,” the sheriff said.

Saucier, 32, was taken to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport earlier today after his capture by deputies with dogs and automatic rifles.

He is accused of fatally shooting his parents, Kenny and Kay Saucier, and his brother, Matt Saucier. Saucier faces three counts of murder, authorities said.

Brisolara said Marty Saucier lived at the same home along with his two young children, but had left his children at their other grandmother’s house before the shootings.

He texted his grandmother this morning, saying he had killed his family, Brisolara said, and the woman called authorities at 8:35 a.m.

Deputies at first found only two dead on the property. Brisolara said Saucier’s mother was found on the first floor of the home. His brother was found upstairs. Later, they found his father in a shed he used as a workshop.

Marty Saucier was holding a .22-caliber gun to his head as deputies tried to negotiate with him early this afternoon, Brisolara said.

They found him in woods near a creek where his family had set up a camp for outdoor enjoyment.

Marty Saucier refused to put his gun down, so deputies deployed their K-9 service dogs on him, Brisolara said. He had dog bites on his face and one arm, and was grazed on his chin by his own bullet when he dropped his gun, the sheriff said.

The sheriff’s helicopter flew over the area looking for the man, until K-9 teams reported they had found him. A Mississippi Bureau of Investigation crime-scene unit arrived to help collect evidence. Brisolara said it was likely MBI and deputies will remain on the scene throughout the afternoon.

The brick home is on a dirt road about a half-mile off B Saucier Road. It’s near Saucier-Lizana Road in a heavily wooded area of north Harrison County.

Family members and friends, who arrived in about 50 cars, gathered off the dirt road but out of sight from the house.

“How could anyone do this? It would be bad enough if a stranger did it,” said family member Beverly Weekley. “I’ve lost my brother, sister-in-law and one nephew and don’t know what will happen to the other nephew.”

“They locked him in the shed,” she said earlier Tuesday morning, collapsing in tears after learning her brother’s body had just been found.

Brisolara said Saucier left a suicide note.

Drug Dog Sweep Turned up $100,000 in Meth

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. —

A traffic stop on I-95 in Brevard County ended with a $100,000 crystal meth bust,” investigators said on Wednesday.

The couple who was arrested told state troopers they were bringing the drugs from New Jersey.

Authorities said a K-9 alerted state troopers that it detected drugs in the car, but investigators were already suspicious when they pulled the couple over.

http://liarcatchers.com/drugdogsweeps.html

Federal drug agents said Joel and Kate Rodriguez tried to smuggle five pounds of crystal methamphetamine worth $100,000.

“Does it surprise me? Yeah. I wonder where they got it,” said nearby resident Margaret Guadarrama.

The two were nabbed when state troopers pulled them over for speeding in Brevard County over the weekend.

Troopers said the couple seemed nervous and that’s when a drug dog was brought in.

“Most of our drug interdiction teams have a K-9 assigned with them, so the dog is already there if it’s needed,” said Major Todd Hutchinson with the Titusville Police Department.

Hutchinson said his department was not involved in the case, but said his department has seen traffickers try different tactics to smuggle drugs on I-95.

“Criminals from there have gotten pretty ingenious. They dressed up vehicles to look like DOT vehicles,” said Hutchinson.

Investigators said one of the suspects admitted he put $100,000 in a cereal box to hide it, and then following the drug deal, walked out of the house with the same box packed with crystal meth.

The couple initially told troopers they were in Florida to go to Universal Studios, but investigators said were really in the state to unload the drugs.

The couple was arrested on federal trafficking charges, and has been transferred to the Seminole County jail.

Missing Persons Scott Guseman

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – All resources are being thrown at finding a missing husband and father from League City. Texas EquuSearch will be using high tech equipment to help find Scott Guseman and his missing truck.

Both haven’t been seen since Monday morning. That’s when Scott left home, headed for work and never made it. His loved ones say he’s a family man, a guy whose social calendar is always booked and would never intentionally disappear.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Inside the couple’s League City home, all felt right in April Guseman’s world. She and husband Scott are weeks away from their 25th wedding anniversary.

“We are planning a nice weekend in San Antonio for our 25th wedding anniversary,” she said.

First she needs help finding him.

“You’ve got a situation where a person has gotten in their vehicle and just disappeared,” said Bob Walcutt, Laura Recovery Center.

Volunteers with the LRC set up a command post in the parking lot of the Kemah Walmart. Scott was last seen around 8:00 A.M. Monday at the store’s gas station buying cigarettes. About two hours later either Scott or someone else withdrew $100. League City Police are investigating and trying to determine where the withdrawal was made. Since then there’s been no further activity and no sign of foul play.

“The one thing I do know is that he would never just leave voluntarily. I know that. There’s no question in my mind. There’s no question in anybody’s mind that he would ever go voluntarily without contacting us,” said April Guseman.

Volunteers with flyers in their cars are driving from Galveston to Houston looking for Scott’s truck, a 2007 red, Dodge Ram two-door, long bed pick up. It has Texas license plate 84BLT6.

April says Scott left home Monday morning the same way he always does.

“We walk out together at about 7 A.M. and kiss in the driveway, get in our cars and leave,” she said.

Now she and the couple’s two adult sons are just waiting for him to come back.

Identity Theft Two Arrests made in Cartersville

Chief Thomas N. Culpepper announced this morning that yesterday, April 25, 2012, investigators with the Cartersville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division took part in a Probation Search at 1400 Joe Frank Harris

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Parkway, Apartment 229, which resulted in the arrest of two subjects possibly involved with numerous identity thefts.

Inside the apartment, investigators found over 100 credit and debit cards, notebooks containing hundreds of names, addresses, and social security

numbers, blank IRS tax forms, tax documents sent to homes, as well as applications for credit cards. A preliminary investigation led investigators to believe that the suspects were targeting subjects who are incarcerated and using

their identities to obtain credit cards, tax refunds, and other financial information.

The credit cards which have been located have been cancelled.

Investigators arrested Thomas Bruce Henley, age 54, and Mary Theresa Merritt, age 34 both of Cartersville. At this point, both subjects have only been charged with Theft by Receiving Stolen Property. More charges may be forthcoming as

the investigation progresses.

Investigators will be working with other local jurisdictions and the FBI in this ongoing investigation.

Fraud Investigation Online Car Insurance

Los Angeles, CA — (SBWIRE) — 04/25/2012 — It’s the new hot trend in shopping for car insurance, people who are going online to get multiple quotes from the comfort of their own homes.

It’s fast, convenient and the low overhead and a larger client base mean that just like so many other businesses that operate on the Internet online brokers are able to offer better deals.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

It is the Internet though, so the fact is that there are fraudulent operators in the mix and with more drivers looking to stretch their insurance dollar a little bit more during this recession consumer complaints have been on the up tick.

The scams run the gamut from phishing schemes that involve fake sites that are operating only to harvest applicant’s personal information to phony operators who are providing completely worthless policies.

Also just like so many other scams have come and gone over the years it’s people with limited English skills who tend to be the prime target.

So to find out more about the problem Adam Tucker, CEO of Car Insurance Hub was contacted for recent phone interview and during the course of it he was able to pass on some helpful tips to avoid being scammed.

He pointed out that, “An applicant will have to provide some level of personal information to an online broker before they can get any quotes. However, there are limits as to just how much information you should give. So if you feel that they’re asking for too much information that goes beyond what should be required simply give your mouse a click and move onto another site. It’s also always a safe bet to go with a larger more established online broker, for instance we now offer quotes in every state of the US.”

His last bit of advice was to advise anyone who shops for any kind of insurance online to go back and verify that any money that they have handed over to the broker has in fact been forwarded to the insurance carrier.

In the end though, one has to be aware that policing the Internet remains a daunting challenge, so a little common sense on the part of the shopper goes a long way.

Also as the old saying goes, if a deal seems just too good to be true it probably is and rock-bottom prices beyond the norm, just like so many other scams, are a common tool of the online fraudster.

Founded in 2007, Car Insurance Hub’s primary mission is to give choice to car insurance seekers. At their site you’ll find an easy way to get quotes from many different insurance companies.

Missing Persons Caleigh Anne Harrison

ROCKPORT — The uncle of the little girl who vanished from a beach here last week said today that the family had not given up hope and believed she may have been abducted, rather than swept away by the water

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

David Harrison Jr., uncle of Caleigh Anne Harrison of Gloucester, said the family, which printed out missing-person flyers for her this morning, had a “strong belief” that the little girl had been abducted.

The girl’s mother, Allison Hammond, and father, Anthony Harrison, stood in the background during a news conference at the beach but declined to speak.

David Harrison thanked authorities for their efforts to search for the girl. But he said, “We think we would have found something by now. And that gives us a little bit of hope because if she is somewhere else, we have a chance of finding her.”

State Police appeared to discount the abduction theory. Spokesman David Procopio said that so far investigators had uncovered “no evidence of criminal activity” in the girl’s disappearance.

The agency, which searched the waters off Long Beach today using side scan sonar and a host of divers, planned to search Thursday, one more day, though it could return if new clues are discovered, Procopio said.

Caleigh went missing from the beach, in the area of Saratoga Creek, around noon last Thursday.

Caleigh was with her mother, her 4-year-old sister, and the family dog. When a ball flew over a wall, her mother turned her back to the toddler to retrieve it. Moments later, the girl was gone.

Procopio revealed that investigators, after retracing her steps, believe that the mother may have left the children out of her eyesight for as much as two minutes.

It was “probably closer to the two-minute end of the spectrum” he said.

The toddler is 2 years, 9 months old, with light brown hair and blue-gray eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink top and pink Capri pants. She is under three feet tall and weighs 27 to 35 pounds, State Police said.

Missing Persons Isabel Celis

TUCSON, Ariz. — Polly Klaas. Elizabeth Smart. Megan Kanka. The names are synonymous with a parent’s worst nightmare: a child snatched by a stranger from the safety of her own home.

Now, police in Tucson, Ariz., are trying to determine what happened to 6-year-old Isabel Mercedes Celis. Her parents say they awoke on Saturday to find her missing. Police said a window was open with the screen pushed aside.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

While officers are investigating all possibilities in her disappearance, experts say, abduction from the home is relatively rare, with just over 18 children taken each year.

“It’s unusual, but it’s not unprecedented,” said Ernie Allen, president of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which is involved in the search.

Each year, 58,000 children are abducted by strangers and released, according to the most recent statistics. Of those, 115 were “stereotypical” kidnappings carried out by strangers who either killed the children or held them for ransom. And 16 percent of those were taken from home.

Nearly three quarters of the victims are girls, and 38 percent of them are 12 to 14. At 24 percent, the second largest victimized group is the one Isabel belongs to: girls ages 6 to 11.

In Tucson, the possibility that a kidnapper could be in their midst unnerved some parents.

“I put two-by-fours in their windows this morning,” said Erin Cowan, who has worked with Isabel’s mother at Tucson Medical Center and has a daughter, 7, and son, 12. “I guess you can’t be too careful, sadly.”

Since Saturday, investigators and volunteers fanned across Isabel’s neighborhood and an area landfill searching for clues. Volunteers posted fliers with a photo of Isabel – about 4 feet tall with brown hair and hazel eyes – holding a school award.

Her parents, identified by friends as Becky and Sergio Celis, told investigators they last saw the first-grader at 11 p.m. Friday. Her mother, a nurse, was at work Saturday when her father went to wake her at 8 a.m. and discovered her missing, police said.

Police call the case a “suspicious disappearance/possible abduction.”

“We’re not ruling anything out of the investigation at this point because we really need to keep our mind open about all the information that’s been brought to us,” Police Chief Roberto Villasenor said.

The family released a statement through police Monday evening with their first public comments.

“We appreciate everyone’s interest in finding our daughter, Isabel, and thank all the volunteers who have come out to search for her,” the statement said. “We love Isabel and will never give up finding her.”

The family added that they are fully cooperating with authorities.

On Monday, FBI dogs – one that can find human remains and the other used for search and rescue – went through the family’s home and turned up information that required a follow-up, but police declined to say what that was.

Officers are also interviewing sex offenders in the area. It has become standard practice for all abduction investigations.

When 12-year-old Polly Klaas disappeared during a slumber party in 1993 in California and was strangled by a man with a long criminal record, there were no police protocols, said her father, Marc Klaas.

“Every time a child would disappear, they would invent that wheel all over again,” said Klaas, who travels the country speaking about child abduction. “Now almost every agency in America has some handle on how to launch a missing child investigation.”

Polly’s case served as a model for the FBI’s first missing child protocol and also prompted California voters to pass the state’s three strikes law, which requires harsh prison sentences for repeat offenders.

Congress didn’t pass the federal Megan’s Law until 1996, inspired by the case of 7-year-old Megan Kanka in New Jersey. She was raped and killed by a known child molester who lived across the street. Now federal law requires that every state have a procedure for warning neighbors when a sex offender moves nearby.

John Evander Couey, who took Jessica Lunsford from her home in Florida, lived just down the street. “He had an opportunity to stalk the family,” Allen said. “He went in there for the child.”

In the 2002 kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart in Utah, her abductor was a handyman the family knew and took her from her bed at knifepoint. Nine months later, motorists spotted her as she walked with her captors.

Investigations have changed since the days the milk carton was the best way to disseminate photos of missing children, as the world was reminded last week when authorities in New York reopened the 1979 case of Etan Patz. The boy was 6 when he disappeared while making his first unescorted walk to the school bus.

Now groups can quickly disseminate photos on the Internet and to the media in the hopes that anyone who may have seen something will come forward with information.

And while social media has worked miracles in spreading the word when a child goes missing, such tools are also used by predators to stalk young people, Klaas said.

“At the end of the day, if some guy out of nowhere sneaks into a little girl’s bedroom and steals her without leaving a fingerprint, we’re in a world of hurt,” Klaas said. “It’s like pulling a needle out of a haystack.”
