Fraud Investigation Sylvia Sexius

Authorities have charged a real estate agent with fraud for illegally using a client’s personal information to secure a mortgage on a property, then operate her business and collect rent from the same location.

Sylvia Sexius, 46, was arrested today, charged with theft by deception, forgery and theft by unlawful taking, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Authorities were alerted to the alleged crime in October, when a Newark woman reported she had been receiving foreclosure notices for an East Orange property she did not own.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The prosecutor’s office financial crimes unit investigated and discovered that Sexius, an East Orange-based real estate agent, had completed a fraudulent mortgage on the property for $412,000 using the Newark woman’s personal information, authorities said. Sexius, of Orange, had allegedly obtained the information after having earlier refinanced the woman’s home.

Sexius took possession of the property at 520-524 Prospect St., then began operating her real estate business there while also collecting rental income from commercial and residential units in the same building, the prosecutor’s office said.

Newark Police Detective Aloma Wright and Detective Jeffrey Baker from the prosecutor’s office led the investigation.

Authorities on Tuesday upgraded the charges against the pair, who have been in jail for about a week on child-endangering charges.

Kenisha Pruitt and Antonio Cervantes, of Toledo, both appeared in court Tuesday. A judge set bond at $1 million for each. Both have asked for court-appointed attorneys.

A landlord found the baby boy’s body while cleaning out one of his rental properties. A coroner last week ruled that the infant was born alive and had lived no more than two days.

The autopsy didn’t reveal the cause of death or the infant’s identity.

Fraud Investigation Scammers Calling Offering Money and Cars

LEX 18 is putting out a consumer watch alert after reports that scammers offering free money and cars are calling Lexington residents incessantly.

Roxanne Taylor cares for elderly patients, and she’s often responsible for answering the phone. So when she received a phone call that was too good to be true – she knew something was up.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

“(Monday) afternoon we got a phone call and the gentleman said we had won $2.5 million dollars and a new car,” said Taylor. The only catch was, “all he had to do was to put $500 on his credit card and it would all be delivered.

Fortunately, Taylor knew better. “I told him we weren’t interested, ” she said. But it didn’t end there, and Taylor said she received another call Tuesday morning, this time with a different voice. “He said he had won $500 dollars and a new Mercury, and he needed to go to the store and get a card for $99 dollars,” she said.

Even though Taylor didn’t fall for it – she fears others just will. “I just feel sorry for especially older people who don’t understand it’s a scam,” she said.

LEX 18 tried to call the number back ourselves, but there was no answer.

A few red flags you should keep an eye out for – out of country or unidentified numbers and of course, if someone calls and asks for money, you know its wrong because if you’ve won something you wont have to pay for it.

The victim says the man shoved a small caliber pistol in his face and believes it went off., causing an injury to his mouth.

The victim then drove to the gas station, where he asked for help to call police.
