Wrongful Death Tyrail Hughes

The family of a 20-year-old shot near the Virginia State University campus Tuesday is sharing their grief as police release new information about the shooting.

Chesterfield County Police said surveillance video showed four young men sitting on a curb near the VSU campus, when a car with Tyrail Hughes pulled up.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Officials said the video shows a physical argument moments after the two groups met up. Next, multiple gunshots were fired that hit Hughes and a VSU student who was walking past at the time.

Police said they hope the video will help find the people involved, including the gunman.

Family members said Hughes was shot three times and died a short time later at a local hospital.

Hughes who turned 20 in January, leaves behind a one-year-old son.

Pamela Hughes said her son was the comedian in the family who always hung up the phone saying “I love you, Mom.”

Jessica Hughes, Tyrail’s sister, said she has no idea why her brother left the house heading towards Virginia State, but that she was one of the first to learn he had been shot.

The family said they are leaning on each other for support, but think they will begin to feel closure when police make an arrest.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Chesterfield Crime Solvers at 748-0660.

Missing Person Phoenix Coldon

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – The parents of a missing girl have fallen victim to a despicable act that has cost thousands of dollars and heartache.

The parents of Phoenix Coldon have been searching for a break in her case since she went missing December 18. In February, the family sent a private investigator to Texas to track down a possible lead that resulted as a hoax.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Phoenix’s family sent the private investigator to track a man who claimed online that she was his long lost daughter and that he knew where he was. St. Louis County police determined the tip was no good, but the family still pressed on with the investigator.

The family later learned the man really did not know anything about Phoenix or her possible whereabouts.

“The anxiety that was put upon by this gentleman and what he did and the monetary costs of what we had to do to find out that this was a hoax,” Lawrence Coldon, Phoenix’s father, said.

It is not the first time the family has endured such cruelty since their daughter went missing. They have received a phone call from someone pretending to be Phoenix and another call from a person screaming.

“Sometimes I go outside four, five o’clock in the morning and I just stand out there in the driveway just looking down the street,” Lawrence said. “I pray. Why can’t I see Phoenix come?”

Anyone with information in the case of missing Phoenix Coldon is urged to call CrimeStoppers. The Coldon family has also set up a fund to pay for private investigators. Donations can be made in Phoenix’s name at any Regions Bank.

Wrongful Death 2 year old shoved while tryin to grab phone

A Greeley teenager whose 2-year-old cousin died in his care changed his story to police three times before admitting that he shoved the toddler in a struggle over his cellphone while checking his Facebook account, according to a Greeley police affidavit.

Weld District Attorney Ken Buck on Monday charged the teen as an adult, filing one charge of child abuse resulting in death against Jesus Cornelio, 17. If convicted, he could face from eight to 24 years in prison, but prosecutors also could fashion a deal to put him in the Youth Offender System. In past cases involving juveniles charged as adults, lengthy adult sentences have been suspended if the teens successfully complete programs in the YOS system.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Buck on Monday declined to discuss his reasoning for charging Cornelio as an adult, but said there were several factors he considered.

“I can’t talk about the case factually, but I can tell you we considered all the factors regarding what’s in the best interest of justice and determined that this was an appropriate case to direct file,” Buck said. Buck said there were 11 to 12 factors to check off in filing an adult charge against a juvenile.

Cornelio is just a little over a month away from turning 18.

“Certainly the age at the time of the offense is a factor,” Buck said. “As we deliberated, we look at all of the factors. Some were present, some weren’t, some weighed more heavily than others.”

Police responded to North Colorado Medical Center on March 22, after Jose Cornelio-Espinoza was brought in unresponsive with a severe head injury. He was immediately flown to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, where he suffered a cardiac arrest during surgery. Doctors were able to revive him, but he died two days later.

According to a Greeley police affidavit, which Buck released Monday, Cornelio told police differing stories before finally admitting to shoving the child during a struggle over his cellphone.

Cornelio told police he was sitting on the couch accessing his Facebook account on his cellphone when the toddler kept trying to grab the phone, which angered him.

“Jesus Cornelio then stated he violently struck Jose Angel Cornelio-Espinosa in the chest, which caused (him) to fall backward and hit the back of his head, ‘hard,’ ” according to the affidavit.

Cornelio said he tried to pick up the boy and revive him by shaking him a few times, the affidavit stated.

“Once this happened, Jose Angel Cornelio-Espinoza began vomiting and became almost lifeless,” the affidavit stated.

In a rally outside the Weld County Courthouse last week, his family said that day was the first time Cornelio had watched the child. His father, Martin Cornelio, said his son was reluctant to watch the child because he was rowdy. But his family persuaded him. His family said he also was watching his 4-month-old nephew that day, and there had never been any problems. The family would not comment for this story Monday.

Originally, Cornelio told police the toddler fell from a couch outside of his presence, and he found the boy lying face down on the floor. He stated he tried to revive the toddler by giving him a bottle, then called 911 for help.

In a second interview with a different officer, Cornelio recited the same story, but he added that he had moved a coffee table in the living room prior to “engaging in horseplay with the boy.” He changed his story again, the affidavit reported, adding that he had been in the kitchen and had been watching the boy jump on the couch, before he fell off and struck his head on one of the coffee table legs.

“Jesus Cornelio (said) he did not tell the truth because he knew he should not have let Jose Angel Cornelio-Espinoza jump on the couch,” the affidavit stated.

As he continued to speak with detectives, Jesus changed his story a fourth time, this time admitting that he shoved the child in the struggle over his phone.

Cornelio admitted to moving the coffee table into the living room so it would look like he was playing carefully with the toddler, then called paramedics for help, the affidavit stated.

The affidavit stated Cornelio admitted to being a previous gang member, but Buck said he did not consider the teen an active player, and it played no role in determining his charge.

Cornelio is due in court for a formal advisement by Weld District Court Judge Thomas Quammen on April 26.

The last major case in which Buck filed an adult charge on a teenager involving a death was in 2007, when Carlos Manzo, 15, took his father’s pickup and ran over two young girls, killing one, in east Greeley. Buck filed adult charges against him, and crafted a deal in which he would be sentenced to 12 years in prison, which would be cut in half if he could successfully complete the Youth Offender System.

Missing Person Michael Heydary

NORTHBRIDGE — The search for a missing 31-year-old Northbridge man is now focused on Purgatory Chasm in Sutton. A park ranger said he is confident that it was Michael Heydary who waved to him about 9:30 this morning.

The search for Mr. Heydary has been under way since late last night.

Northbridge Police Chief Warchol said it appears Mr. Heydary was not in any kind of trouble when he acknowledged the ranger this morning.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“We just think he doesn’t want to come home at this point for whatever reason,” the chief said early this afternoon.

Police said Mr. Heydary is married, but his wife was in Iran.

“He’s a very gentle person,” said Michael’s father, Benjamin Heydary. He said he couldn’t think of any reason why Michael would disappear.

Since late yesterday, authorities have been searching for Mr. Heydary, who lives with his parent at 576 Samuel Drive. He did not return from his usual walk around the reservoir yesterday evening.

The search initially focused on Carpenter Reservoir in Northbridge and then, after the report from the ranger, on Purgatory Chasm in Sutton, about two miles away.

Mr. Heydary’s parents reported him missing around 9:15 last night. He had gone for a walk around 5:30 and did not return by his usual time of 7:30.

State Police were called in to search last night with dog unit and helicopter, but the search was called off at 2 a.m. It resumed this morning at 7 with Northbridge fire, police and state Environmental Police units.

Massachusetts State Police helicopter crews and firetrucks were called in around 10 a.m.

The area around Carpenter Reservoir is very wooded with a network of unmarked trails.

“He could be disoriented in the woods. There are numerous trails,” Northbridge Police Chief Walter J. Warchol said this morning.

The missing man’s mother, Suhaila Heydary, said he has been going for walks two or three times a day, and when the weather is nice, he sometimes goes out four times a day.

He usually is gone for an hour or less, she said.

She said she told a neighbor last night that he had not returned from his walk, and they started looking for him when it started to get dark.

The mother said she is frustrated and worried.

“I love you, Michael,” she said to a reporter this morning.

She said she is hoping people get the word out to look for him and that he comes home safe.

The mother said her son did not have a cellphone or a flashlight. He also left for the walk without food and water.

Kyle Sadlon, who lives around the cul-de-sac from the Heydary family, said he looked around the reservoir last night with Michael’s father. There had been a brush fire across the reservoir, which Mr. Sadlon had called in to the fire department, and they thought maybe Michael had gone over to look at it.

“I discouraged him from going out on the trails. You can be out there for a long time before you see anything. It’s easy to get lost in the woods,” Mr. Sadlon said.

A reverse 911 message to Northbridge residents sent this morning described Mr. Heydary as 5-feet, 6-inches tall, 230 pounds, and of Middle Eastern descent. He was last seen wearing an off-white sweater, blue-plaid sweatpants and sandals.

Anyone seeing him is asked to call Northbridge police at (508) 234-6211.

Missing Person Kelli Bordeaux

A 25-year-old bar hand who is a registered sex offender has been questioned twice by police in connection with the disappearance of a missing soldier and has been called a person of interest.

Kelli Bordeaux, 23, was last seen leaving Froggy Bottoms bar in Fayetteville, N.C., around 1:20 a.m Saturday.

Nicholas Holbert, 25, told ABC News 11 exclusively that he gave the soldier a ride home from the bar, where he works, but denied having anything to do with her disappearance and said he dropped her off at the entrance of her neighborhood at her request.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“As soon as you drive into the entrance to Meadowbrook, she said stop right here,” Holbert said. “So I stopped and she said, ‘I’ll walk home.’ I said, ‘Are you sure?’ She said, ‘Yeah.’ I said I figured she didn’t want me to know where she lived, or somebody was there and she didn’t want to be seen together.”

The bar hand, who lives in a lean-to behind Froggy Bottoms, was questioned for a second time today by Fayetteville Police. He said he believed he was being targeted because he has a criminal record.

Holbert is a registered sex offender and was convicted as a 16-year-old of indecent liberties with a 5-year-old child, ABC 11 reported.

The search for the Fort Bragg soldier, who was reported missing by base officials on Monday, focused today on an area where her phone was last detected, officials said.

The last ping from Bordeaux’s cell phone came late Friday or early Saturday off a tower off the Ramsey Street corridor, the area police plan to scour for clues, Fayetteville Police Chief Tom Bergamine said.

Bordeaux’s family said she took her job seriously and would never miss work.

“Being a soldier, to Kelly, isn’t something she’d jeopardize for anything,” said Bordeaux’s older sister, Olivia Cox. “Missing work isn’t something that’s in character for Kelli. This is an out of character thing to happen to my sister.”

Fayetteville Police spokesman Gavin MacRoberts said there is reason to believe the soldier is in danger.

“There is some information we’ve gathered that makes us concerned for her safety,” he said, declining to go into more detail, citing the ongoing investigation.

The missing soldier, who is from St. Cloud, Fla., has been married to her husband, Mike Bordeaux, who is a civilian, for nearly two years. He was in Florida at the time of his wife’s disappearance visiting his father, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Kelli Bordeaux’s mother, Johnna Henson, told ABC News she was having difficulty coping with her daughter’s suspicious disappearance.

“I can’t function not knowing where she is. How can someone hurt her?” Henson asked. “I lost my mother and my husband within a three months span. I can’t deal with losing my child. I can’t deal with any more loss.”

Henson plans to join her daughter, Cox, at Fort Bragg to assist in the search for Bordeaux.

“She joined the military to make her family proud,” Cox said.

Cox described her sister as an “amazing soldier” and a “self-motivated individual.”

Bordeaux joined the military in April 2011, according to a Fort Bragg spokesperson. She was assigned to the 601st Area Support Medical Company, 261st Multifunctional Medical Battalion, 44th Medical Brigade, as a health service specialist. She joined the unit last November.

Bordeaux is 5-foot-1 and weighs 102 pounds. She was last seen wearing a pink tube top with spaghetti straps and black shorts. Anyone with information is asked to contact Fayetteville Police.

Fraud Investigation Phony Invoice Scam

Attorney General Jack Conway on Wednesday issued a cease and desist order to UST Development, Inc. alleging violations of Kentucky’s Consumer Protection Act. The order follows a phony invoice scheme targeting Kentucky consumers, businesses and government offices. A state agency and two private businesses first alerted the Attorney General’s Office to the scam involving UST.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

The mailings originated from LaVerne, California and include an invoice of $425 for a “warranty for preventative maintenance” for telecommunication services. The document states: “Thank you for your business” and “Net 30 Days” above the amount allegedly owed. The description of services is “Telecom Maintenance Agreement.” The businesses and agencies contacting the Attorney General’s Office deny that they have entered into any such agreement.

“The phony invoice scheme is an old favorite of scam artists preying on unsuspecting consumers and businesses,” General Conway said. “Scammers send out mass mailings like this because a certain percentage of businesses will pay without researching the bill. The best defense is to carefully review all demands for money. My office is committed to protecting Kentucky businesses and consumers from these types of scams.”

If you become aware of such a scheme after payment has been made, immediately contact the Consumer Protection Division of the Attorney General’s Office, Better Business Bureau, and local postal authorities. In most cases you will be instructed to stop payment on your check or money order and file a formal complaint against the company.

For additional consumer protection tips or to file a consumer protection complaint online, visit http://ag.ky.gov/consumers or call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Hotline at 1-888-432-9257.
