Surveillance tools or technologies

True to what its director Pradeep Chona believes, “quantity is long forgotten but quality is not,” Havmor, a leading ice cream manufacturer from western India, is known for making ice cream using milk and milk fats. Not only that, since its inception in 1944, the company has believed in tempting people to literally Have More or Havmor.

The company, with its new state-of-the-art plant, has tripled its production capacity this year taking the production to 2 lakh litres a day to keep pace with rising demand in the market.

The company has ISO 9001: 2008- / HACCP-certified manufacturing facility, qualified and experienced personnel and believes in “Achhai, Sachai and Safai.”The company is a winner of many awards including Best Ice Cream at various local and national level competitions.

Role of surveillance systems
For companies such as Havmor, there are various options of surveillance tools available in the form of CCTV cameras, data loggers, GPS (Global Positioning System) with temperature indicators, refrigeration unit timer and other vehicle- and temperature-tracking monitors. These tools help companies like Havmor to deliver their very best to their customers and stay ahead of the rest of the players. Let us understand, CCTV cameras and GPS systems, the two tools that Havmor majorly use in its pursuit of upgrading technology and maintaining quality.

CCTV cameras
The use of CCTV has become increasingly widespread throughout the world over recent years. Originally deployed for protecting large establishments, food processors and monitoring city centres, CCTV systems are now installed routinely within shops, schools, and even individual vehicles on the public transport or processed food transport network as a mandatory requirement by the police. Additionally, the market has undergone a rapid transition from analogue to digital recording technology, which has had a significant impact on the design and functionality of CCTV systems.

Analogue CCTV recording systems were relatively simple to design as they relied mainly on the use of VHS (Video Home System) tapes to capture the images. Digital recording systems, by contrast, are much more complex to specify. They record onto a hard drive, which can only store a limited amount of video; when it is full the oldest material will be overwritten with new. Therefore when specifying a system thought must be given to the capacity of the hard drive, the provision of a suitable method to create a permanent record of any key incidents (e.g. DVD writer) and the use of compression (which will affect the recorded image quality). Many of these issues are inter-related; thus improved recorded picture quality and higher frame rate may come at the expense of a reduced retention time on the system.

Advances in CCTV technology are turning video surveillance into one of the most valuable loss prevention, safety / security and management tools available today. Retailers use CCTV to monitor for shoplifters and dishonest employees, compile recorded evidence against bogus accident claims and monitor merchandising displays in stores that may be hundreds of miles away. Manufacturers, governments, hospitals and universities use CCTV to identify visitors and employees, monitor hazardous work areas, thwart theft and ensure the security of their premises and parking facilities.

Application of CCTVs at factories
Specially designed industrial use camera systems are used for product inspection, but normal camera systems are used to monitor work progress. The aims of these systems are to analyse work processes for higher productivity or to monitor dangerous locations to document accidents. In particular, surveillance cameras are installed in clean rooms or other locations that workers cannot easily access, so that the work operating conditions or instruments are monitored. Since specially designed camera housings may be required in factories for protection of the camera against dust, heat or chemicals, care is needed when designing the factory systems.

Application of CCTVs at Havmor
At the company, over 200 CCTV cameras have been installed across both of its production plants. These devices help monitor activities in real-time from anywhere in the world. CCTV devices work as third of the production supervisors who make sure that a proper level of temperature is maintained. It also helps in employee safety and helps avoid malpractices such as theft.

GPS
The GPS is a space-based global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that provides location and time information in all weather, anywhere on or near the Earth, where there is an unobstructed line of sight to four or more GPS satellites. It is maintained by the United States government and is freely accessible by anyone with a GPS receiver.

Commercial use of GPS
Invented for the US Army, GPS is now available for civilians. Most of the corporates have adopted GPS as it delivers the following benefits.
Monitor the Speed of the Vehicle – A GPS-tracking system monitors the speed of the vehicle. Whenever the speed limit is exceeded, one gets an alert and a report.
Know the Exact Location – Let’s say someone just turned on a computer and wants to login to the central station to find out where a particular vehicle is at that moment. GPS lets him / her do that without any trouble. He / she simply logs into the system and finds exactly where the vehicle is at that point in time.
Signal Update Interval – One can set the desired update frequency of the signal of a GPS device. For instance, if someone does not wish to track vehicles very often, he / she can set a frequency to 30 minutes. Otherwise, he / she can set it to 2 minutes and know where a particular vehicle is precisely every 2 minutes.

Use of GPS at Havmor
Delivering good ice cream is equally important as making good ice cream otherwise all the efforts go in vain.

Keeping pace with 30-35% growth annually, the company expanded to Rajasthan and Maharashtra and explores every market in these regions.

For a company with its production hub in Ahmedabad, it is a tough task to keep up with delivery as it brings with it a lot of challenges. However with GPS in place, the company has benefited as follows:

Ensuring timely delivery in a controlled-temperature environment throughout the products’ journey from mother warehouse to outlets / distributors and also keeping track of it.

Maintaining the quality of the products and ensuring avoidance of any temperature shocks.

Locating the vehicle in crisis, when, perhaps, the driver needs assistance.

In fact, the benefits go beyond the few mentioned above.

The latest GPS system in each of the company’s Refrigerated Delivery Vehicle allows the company to monitor various factors such as the exact location of the vehicle, temperature of the vehicle, speed of the vehicle and all this in real-time and that too from anywhere.

For companies such as Havmor such surveillance tools provide an additional support to meet consumer expectation of high quality.

Hence it will not be an overstatement to say that surveillance tools are not just controlling tools but a tool to success. Technology helps!!!

22 year old discovers fraud in election

Shocking election fraud allegations have stained a state’s 2008 presidential primary – and it took a college student to uncover them.

“This fraud was obvious, far-reaching and appeared to be systemic,” 22-year-old Ryan Nees told Fox News, referring to evidence he uncovered while researching electoral petitions from the 2008 Democratic Party primary in Indiana.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Nees’ investigation centered on the petitions that put then-senators Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton on the ballot. As many as 150 of the names and signatures, it is alleged, were faked. So many, in fact, that the numbers raise questions about whether Obama’s campaign had enough legitimate signatures to qualify for a spot on the ballot.

“What seems to have happened is that a variety of people in northern Indiana knew that this fraud occurred, and actively participated and perpetuated the fraud, and did so on behalf of two presidential campaigns,” according to Nees.

Prosecutors are now investigating. The scandal has already led to the sudden resignation Monday night of Butch Morgan, chairman of the St. Joseph County Democratic Party. He denied any wrongdoing, saying he looks “forward to an investigation that will exonerate me.”

Nees, a junior at Yale University, served as an intern in the Obama White House last year and supports the president’s re-election. But as an intern at the non-partisan political newsletter Howey Politics Indiana, he delved into the Byzantine and complicated world of petition signatures and found reams of signatures that he says appeared to be written in the same handwriting, some apparently copied from previous petitions.

The names were subsequently submitted to Indiana election authorities as the signatures of legitimate voters. Nees and Brian Howey, the newsletter’s publisher, then teamed up with the South Bend Tribune to break the story.

St. Joseph County Prosecuting Attorney Michael Dvorak announced Tuesday that the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Indiana will not be investigating these allegations. So Dvorak is doing so and has requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police.

In a statement, Dvorak said the U.S. attorney “does not investigate allegations of fraud in the submission of petitions by political parties for the placement of the names of candidates on the ballot for federal primary elections. They do, however, investigate fraud in voter registration, the actual voting process and in the tabulation of ballots.”

The state Republican Party Chairman Eric Holcomb had called for a federal investigation.

“We don’t know the extent of the crime. We don’t know how many people. We don’t know if it was organized. Those were some of my questions. How deep does it go? Does it go to one county? Does it go to one district? Does it go to one state? Does it go to 49 other states?”

Indiana Democratic Party Chairman Dan Parker also supports an investigation. He released a statement that said, in part, “We continue to fully support the investigation into this isolated incident in St. Joseph County. We want to know who committed this act, and we want that person held accountable.”

Nees thinks the candidates did not have knowledge of the alleged forgeries, but he says such things can easily happen.

“This appears to have been the actions of the northern Indiana political machine that operated within the Indiana Democratic Party, not within the campaigns of either President Obama or Secretary of State Clinton,” he said.

“What’s important to me is that this sort of thing not occur in the future. This happened with impunity because no one thought that they would ever get caught, and in fact it was likely that no one would ever catch them because no structural safeguard existed to ensure that this wouldn’t occur.”

Howey, the publisher of the political newsletter, told Fox News he also plans to examine the petitions that put Sen. John McCain’s name on the Republican ballot. “It makes sense to look at the whole thing,” he said.

As Nees sat on a bench on the leafy downtown green in New Haven, Conn., with the imposing ivy and Gothic architecture of Yale behind him, he reflected on what he had found back home in his home state.

“Election fraud is particularly troublesome, because it undermines the integrity of our voting process and basically of our democracy. Maintaining the integrity of elections in the United States is an important thing.”

asking for public help possible pedophile case

A man who lived across from a Fort Lauderdale school had over 200 videos of children being sexually abused by adults on several computers, police say.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Many of the children in the videos were as young as seven years old, police say.

Kris K. Brown, 36, was arrested Tuesday after Fort Lauderdale police and the South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant resulting from an undercover investigation.

That investigation, police say, located an IP address that was sharing child porn. Detectives traced it to Brown’s apartment at 5621 Northeast 22nd Avenue, where the material was found on multiple computers.

Because Brown lived directly across the street from the private Westminster Academy, investigators are urging anyone who may have had contact with Brown to contact Detective Rob Mauro at 954-888-1570 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.

The school serves children from pre-K 2-year-olds through 12th grade, according to its website.

Police said Brown has been charged with 20 counts of possession of child pornography

Michael Jackson was convinced he would be assassinated onstage

Michael Jackson was so convinced that there would be an assassination attempt on him during his live comeback shows that he was seriously considering wearing a bulletproof vest onstage, a former bodyguard has revealed.

http://liarcatchers.com/executive_protection.html

Matt Fiddes, who was the singer’s bodyguard at the time of his death in 2009, said that the singer had worn a bulletproof vest throughout his trial for child molestation in 2005 and was absolutely sure there would be attempt on his life during the planned shows at the O2 Arena.

Fiddes told The People: “Michael said to me, ‘I fear I’m not going to make these concerts, or may get assassinated onstage. Please could you make sure my children are OK.'”

He continued: “He was a mess. He told me that during his four-month trial, he had to wear a bulletproof vest every day. Michael said he would have to wear one through the concerts and wasn’t sure how he’d get through them because of his worries.”

Jackson was also convinced that he would get shot at during the press conference he gave to launch the shows, with Fiddes revealing that the singer drank half a bottle of whisky to steady his nerves.

Child Identity Theft Protection

Child identity theft is a growing crime that is causing damage to the credit reports of children. Scam artists are finding inactive Social Security numbers online and selling the numbers under different names to help people establish fake credit. Most of these inactive numbers are assigned to children under the age of 18 who have not started using them yet.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Recognizing the need for nationwide consumer education outreach, the Council of Better Business Bureaus is joining government agencies and national advocacy organizations in launching the 4th annual National Protect Your Identity Week (PYIW) October 16 – 22, 2011. During PYIW, BBBs around the country will conduct identity theft protection events in their communities. Your BBB will be holding Secure Your ID Day, a free document shredding event, on October 22.

Identity theft touched the lives of more than 8.1 million adult victims in 2010. According to a report from Javelin Strategy and Research, the theft resulted in the loss of $37 billion dollars. On top of that, children may be 51 times more likely than adults to have their identity stolen, according to a study conducted by AllClear ID.

“We are all at risk for identity theft, but children are particularly vulnerable,” said Toby Barfield, president and CEO of BBB serving Eastern North Carolina. “It is important for parents to teach children how to safely manage personal information so that they do not become a victim of identity theft.”

Gallatin Grain Company Fraud

On Oct. 18, before U.S. District Judge Gary A. Fenner, Daniel F. Froman, 66, of Gallatin, pleaded guilty to a scheme that stole over $3 million from 100 northwest Missouri farmers. The announcement was made by Beth Phillips, United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri. Froman plead guilty to the mail fraud charge contained in an April 21, 2011, federal indictment.
Froman operated Gallatin Grain Company, 107 State Highway 6, Gallatin, which stored and bought grain from farmers in northwest Missouri. Froman admitted that he defrauded 100 farmers whose grain was stored at his business by selling their grain in order to pay his debts.

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has collected $400,000 in assets from Froman, which has been distributed to the victim farmers on a pro rata basis. The remaining loss, according to the Missouri Grain Regulatory Services, is $2,903,610.

Under the terms of today’s plea agreement, Froman also waives any interest he has in the $100,000 bond posted in the case filed by the state of Missouri in Daviess County for 22 counts of stealing grain and three counts of filing false reports. Those funds will be turned over to the state for distribution to the victims.

On Feb. 6, 2009, Gallatin Grain Company’s attorney called the Missouri Department of Agriculture Grain Regulatory Services to report that the company no longer had any grain, trucks or assets. Two days later, Froman emptied the storage space at Gallatin Grain, loading 1,200-1,300 bushels of soybeans and corn into four tractor trailers. Froman transported the stolen grain as well as some farm equipment to Falls City, Neb., where the grain, farm equipment and tractor trailers were all sold for $100,000.

The mail fraud charge involves a fraudulent financial statement that Froman mailed to the Missouri Department of Agriculture, Grain Regulatory Services. The financial statement falsely reported a net worth of more than $662,000 in December 2007, when in reality Gallatin Grain Company had a negative net worth of $936. Froman would have been ineligible to maintain his grain dealer or warehouse licenses with a negative net worth. The false financial statement was used to borrow operating funds from BTC Bank.

Under federal statutes, Froman is subject to a sentence of up to 20 years in federal prison without parole, plus a fine up to $250,000 and an order of restitution. A sentencing hearing will be scheduled after the completion of a presentence investigation by the United States Probation Office.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jane Pansing Brown. It was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Missouri Department of Agriculture Grain Regulatory Services, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, the Daviess County Prosecutor’s Office and the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department.

Pending in the case is a motion filed on behalf of Pauline Froman, Daniel Froman’s wife, who has also been charged in the case. A motion to continue trial setting for her was filed in federal court on Oct. 10.
