Wrongful Death Couple ID’d in Apparent Madison County Murder-Suicide

Police say two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide, leaving behind a small child. It happened late Friday night along Blackwell Court in Richmond. The couple has been identified as 23-year-old Jackie Rose and 23-year-old Jesse Rose.

The owner and the landlord of the apartment says it’s a crime that’s hard to believe.

“We see it happen in other places, but we don’t really see it happen in our own places, and it’s a big shock,” said landlord R.T. Taylor.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

It was around 11:30 Friday night when police in Madison County were called to a home in Richmond for a domestic disturbance report. They were told a woman was possibly being held against her will. Shortly after arriving, officers say they heard a gunshot.

“I was totally shocked,” said Taylor.

Immediately calling for back up, police were able to get inside that apartment. They found the couple dead, both with gunshot wounds, in what officers say appears to be a murder-suicide. The two are believed to be a married couple who left behind their 15-month-old daughter inside the home.

“I had seen the little toddler and the mom several times on the porch and they had a little small swimming pool out front,” said Taylor.

Taylor says the couple had been renting from him for less than a year but always paid rent on time,  and he never saw anything out of the ordinary.

“Seemed happy couple and just loved the little kid and everything,” he said.

The couple’s young daughter was turned over to social services.

Fraud Investigation Winchester Police Warn of Phone Scam

Police in Clark County are warning of a very detailed phone scam.

Winchester Police say someone has been calling people in the area and telling them they missed an important court date. The scammers provide a bogus case number but use the name of a real Winchester police officer. They scammers then tell people they’re facing a fine, and request a Kroger gift card as payment.

http://liarcatchers.com/fraud_investigation.html

Police say people don’t pay any kind of fine or fee to a government office with a pre-paid credit card like the one these scammers are requesting. They suggest people just hang up if they get a call like this.

Wrongful Death Investigation in Estill County

Kentucky State Police said an Estill County man was found murdered on Friday, and they’re searching for two people of interest in the case.

Investigators said the victim is 44-year-old Micky Randall Riddell.

“This right here was the last thing anybody expected to happen around here. It’s just shocking,” said Sheri Grace.

Grace said it’s difficult to believe that her neighbor and second cousin, Micky Riddell, was found dead at his Pea Ridge Road Home. The crime happened at his house behind the Valley View Baptist Church, sometime before noon on Friday.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“All I know is that somebody had beat him. That’s the only part I have got so far, is that he was beat pretty bad,” said Grace.

While police aren’t saying how Riddell was killed, family said he was found by a friend on Friday morning. Relatives who live nearby, first learned the news when they saw all of the commotion.

“Here comes ambulances flying through here, and cops flying through here, and it’s just …Wow,” said Grace. “Everybody was just all tore up.”

Once police left the home they said they were looking for two people of interest in the case. They said they think one person is local, and one is not local. They’re also searching for the driver of a dark purple van or hatchback, that has gold trim and running boards on the side.

“I am just hoping they can find out who done it,” said Grace.

Relatives said they want to know why Riddell was killed. They said he had been in trouble before, but he was a good man.

“He was nice, he was good, good to everybody,” said Grace.

A good man, who family said deserved better than this.

“Nobody deserves something like that, nobody. That’s just, no way for somebody to go ,” said Grace.

If you have any information in this case, or see the dark purple vehicle, you’re asked to call Kentucky State Police.

Wrongful Death Suit Filed in Lincoln Co. Bus Crash

A wrongful death lawsuit in the case of a Lincoln County man who died in a school bus crash is closer to going to trial.

William “Otis” Coleman was hit head-on by a school bus in May of last year. The bus had went into the wrong lane to avoid another bus.

Coleman’s family filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the bus driver, the superintendent, the district’s transportation director and two mechanics.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

“There’s a thing in Kentucky called qualified immunity and it says that any public official that makes discretionary policy type decisions and supervises other people is entitled to immunity if they are claimed to have done something wrong in making those decisions,” said Attorney David Tremble.

In court Friday, attorneys argued whether the superintendent and transportation director should remain as defendants in the case.

“We think the superintendent is directly responsible for this tragedy and she should be a defendant in this case at trial, and the jury should decide what she did or did not do correctly,” said Tim Bates, the attorney for the Coleman family.

The judge will make about the superintendent and transportation director by November, which is when the trial will be.
