Private Detective: Multiple Vet. Clinic Robberies May Be Connected

Some Central Kentucky veterinarians are upset after another veterinary clinic was broken into Monday night. This is the most recent is a string of veterinary clinic robberies that cross several state lines.

The robbery happened around midnight at the veterinary clinic on Harrodsburg Road, this follows the robberies of the Regency Road Animal Hospital and a veterinary clinic on Merchant Drive in Richmond.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Surveillance footage showed two people, covered head to toe, as they broke into the Regency Animal Hospital and stole around $6,000 in heartworm and flea and tick medication.

“I believe it’s the same people,” said Dr. Mark Dobbs of the Regency Animal Hospital.

The robbery of Dr. Dobbs’ clinic was similar to the other robberies, in all robberies they pried open a steel back door to get in and stole thousands of dollars worth of pet medication. All clinics were also hit overnight.

It is believed that the same thieves had attempted to break into the Animal Clinic at Equestrian Woods in Jessamine County and the Skipworth Vet Clinic in Richmond, but they were scared off by the alarms.

Police believe that the same suspects who broke into the Harrodsburg clinic are the suspects who were caught on camera at the Regency Animal Hospital in June.

It is likely that they may try to re-sell the pet medication on Craigslist and eBay.

“When you can buy prepackaged stuff and they’ve got all the sizes and selection to choose from,” Dr. Dobbs explained, “that’s a stolen product, almost without a doubt.”

Police believe the same group of thieves may be tied to a multi-state theft ring. In Knoxville, TN more than 30 veterinary clinics were robbed, and Ohio and North Carolina have had pet med thefts that are similar to the one Monday night.

“Just be careful and upgrade your security,” said Dobbs.

Private Detective: Camo-wearing Man Suspected in Two Hold Ups

Police say that a gas station robbery that happened on August 12, is very similar to the holdup that happened at the Thornton’s in Woodhill back in June.

“Because so many variables are similar, this very well may be the same person that’s committed multiple robberies,” said Detective Mark Thomas of the Lexington Police Department.

In both robberies the man is wearing camo headgear. In the first robbery the suspect is wearing a camo hat to attempt to cover his face, and in the second he is wearing a full, camo face mask.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

The suspect has been reported as being very casual in both robberies, and he even stopped to count the cash in the most recent one.

“He kind of retreats back, the guy says immediately, ‘I want the cash,’ and then reaches down and from his waistband and pulls up a black hunting knife,” said Thomas.

Due to the knife and the camo, the police believe that the suspect probably has experience in the woods, and a possible drug problem.

“Anybody that knows him needs to step in and intervene and say look, this has gone too far,” said Thomas. “It’s one thing that he’s a drug addict, it’s something else if he’s actually knocking off gas stations.  We need to get this guy some help right away.”

Crime Stoppers will pay $1,000 for the tip that leads to an arrest. You do not have to leave your name on the tipline, just your information.  The number is 253-2020.

Private Detective: Police Raid Several Richmond Stores

More than forty police officers raided three separate Richmond convenience stores Tuesday morning.

For some patrons, like Donna Gipson who is wheelchair bound, The Shell Mart was her go-to convenience store.

“I have never heard anything about this store bad wise,” Gipson told LEX 18’s Richard Essex

Unfortunately, police had heared plenty of bad things about the operations and Tuesday morning they  closed three convenience stores.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Police suspect the store owners have been buying and selling stolen property and fraudulently using food stamp benefits.  Police were alerted to possible fraud by Kroger’s loss prevention unit after finding their products being re-sold in these convenience stores.

Police have not released the names or possible charges the convenience store owners may face. This story will be updated as more information is made available.

Wrongful Death Father of 3 Month Old Faces Her Murder Charges

The father of a 3-month-old infant is facing murder charges after she was reported missing in May.

According to Fox 59, the child’s mother said that her boyfriend, James Fairbanks, was supposed to take care of 3-month-old Janna Rivera while she was at work.

When she came home, Janna was gone.

Fairbanks reportedly told her that the “baby was dead,” saying he buried her in a cornfield.

However, when police confronted him, he allegedly said that he didn’t know where Janna could be found.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office,  Fairbanks eventually admitted to putting a pillow over the baby’s face to muffle her cries.

A short time later, Fairbanks took the baby to the car and left.

“I picked her up and she wasn’t movin’ anymore,” he told the detective. “I wanna get on with my life.”

Investigators have not found the baby’s remains, but they did discover a blanket that belonged to Janna in a landfill.

Fairbanks is now facing charges of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.

Missing Person Kristin Ghilardi Last Seen in Canyon County, CA

Authorities and family members on Sunday asked for help in finding a missing 29-year-old mother who was last seen four days earlier in Canyon Country.

Kristen Whitney Ghilardi, 29, is seen in a photo released by her family and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Kristin Whitney Ghilardi, 29, went to a friend’s home Wednesday in the Santa Clarita neighborhood, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Officials initially had spelled the woman’s first name as “Kristen,” but corrected it the following day.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

The friend, Ashley Boger, told KTLA that Ghilardi “is the perfect example of thinking, ‘Nothing is going to happen to me.’”

“I keep trying to think that,” Boger added, “that this isn’t happening, that she’s going to come back.”

Ghilardi, who volunteers with a homeless outreach program organized by her church, told Boger that she was going to take a man named Patrick to see his parole officer in Simi Valley, according to a statement from the missing woman’s family.

She had met Patrick, who was homeless, at a Ventura beach earlier this month, the statement said.

Ghilardi typically picked up her 10-year-old son from school or daycare on Wednesdays, but did not do so on Aug. 26, relatives said.

She was driving her charcoal-gray, 2006 four-door Toyota Corolla, which has tinted rear windows and front-end damage, when she disappeared, the Sheriff’s Department said. The vehicle’s license plate number is 5VLM990.

Kristen Whitney Ghilardi, 29, is seen in a photo provided by her family.

The Costco manager’s family has since been unable to contact her on her cellphone — a circumstance that her brother, Anthony Ghilardi, described as unusual.

“She’s a mom first and foremost. She doesn’t go a day without talking to her son before he goes to bed,” he said. “For her to be … four or five days now since anyone’s seen or heard from her — that’s not her. She wouldn’t do that.”

An updated news release from the Sheriff’s Department stated Ghilardi has a shaved head or very short hair and often wears different-colored hats and bandanas. She also wears miscellaneous bracelets.

A Facebook page was set up in support of the search effort.

Anyone with information about Ghilardi’s whereabouts was asked to call the LASD’s Santa Clarita station at 661-255-1121. Anonymous tips can be made via Crime Stoppers: 800-222-8477.

Accident Reconstruction Pedestrian Killed in Knox County Parking Lot

State police say a woman was walking out of a Knox County fast food restaurant Monday when she was hit and killed by a 19-year old behind the wheel of a pickup truck. It happened at the McDonald’s on Master Street in Corbin.

It was a horrific scene witnessed by many at this busy intersection.

“People just started screaming. People going from this restaurant to that one. They were all coming out, you couldn’t really see what’s going on because people were everywhere,” said witness Brenda Jessup.

Troopers say around 4:30, the 19-year-old driver of a black truck hit and killed 66-year-old Norma Hicks as she was walking out of McDonalds.

http://liarcatchers.com/accident_reconstruction.html

“After impact with the female, the truck dipped and spun around and hit the building, said Kentucky State Police Trooper Shane Jacobs.

Troopers say the truck came down a side road before pulling into the restaurant going very fast.

“We’ve got our accident reconstruction on the scene and they are measuring marks on the road and debris, getting as much information to figure out why the truck was traveling so fast,” said Trooper Jacobs.

Brenda Jessup was grabbing food with her son when the chaos ensued.

“When the fire truck rolled in, the state police started coming in and that’s when they started blocking everything off,” she said.

She says even though she doesn’t know Hicks, what she saw Monday weighs heavily on her heart.

“I found out she actually passed away and it hurt. I was devastated,” said Jessup.

Troopers say it will take some more time to figure out exactly what led to the fatal accident.

“Were still looking into exactly why his truck entered the parking lot at such a high rate of speed before striking the pedestrian,” said Trooper Jacobs.

The coroner says Hicks is from Parker’s Lake in McCreary County. Troopers say the driver has been cooperative and they don’t suspect drugs or alcohol as factors. He was taken to Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin for a blood test. At this point, no charges have been filed.
