Private Detective: Shelby Co. Sheriff’s Office Issues Craigslist Theft Warning

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a warning about a scam after someone stole a Jessamine County man’s car after he saw an ad on Craigslist.

The sheriff’s office said the seller posted an ad selling his Camaro on Craigslist and a man out of Indiana responded. After he expressed his interest, the two set up a meeting at a truck stop in Waddy, Ky., so that the interested party could take the truck for a test drive.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Just minutes after leaving the truck stop the potential buyer pulled the Camaro over and asked to look under the hood. When the seller got out of the vehicle, the man took off in the car.

With little info to go on, the sheriff’s office hopes they can locate the car before it’s too late.

“They move these cars quick it is very easy for them to take them somewhere and strip them down or take the VIN and make a clone of it you know a lot of these guys are professionals,” says Detective Eric Hettinger.

Police say the best advice they can give is always get a name, even if you have to ask for an identification, and always get to a meeting location early. Take notes of the license plates of any perspective buyer.

Thankfully in this situation, the seller was not hurt when he was stranded .

Private Detective: Medical Records Found in Richmond Storage Dumpster

Health care officials in Madison County are searching for answers  after thousands of medical records containing patient information were found in a dumpster.

The records were found at the AAA Rent-a-Space in Richmond. By HIPAA laws, medical records should be shredded when disposed. The paper work, which belonged to a radiology clinic that practiced in Richmond in the late 90s and early 2000s.

Carl Swanger, the Madison County man who discovered the records, was throwing something in the dumpster at the storage center when he noticed that the bin was full of dozens of boxes of medical records that contained very personal information including social security numbers, birth dates, and medical conditions.

Arson Investigation One Arrested in Clark County Fire That Injured 3

Three people were hurt and one man was arrested in a Clark County fire Sunday evening. Police say they’re still investigating what caused it, but the homeowner says he has an idea.

“I smelled something real funny like metallic or something,” said resident Jon Ratliff.

Jon Ratliff, who says he lives in the apartment where the fire broke out, was letting a couple stay with him. He says he was watching TV in the living with his fiance when the woman came out of the bedroom yelling.

http://liarcatchers.com/arson_investigation.html
“She’s on fire yelling ‘help’ so I had a blanket on the back of my chair. So, I grabbed the blanket and started putting her out,” he said.

“Someone said that a meth lab blew up in her face, so I was freaking out,” said neighbor Angela Fraley.

Detectives arrested James “Joe” Abner after firefighters put out the fire at some apartments on Carolina Avenue. Police had to evacuate 8 apartments as a precaution. Some neighbors explained what police told them had happened.

“That’s what blew up, was the fuel, that they actually did not get to finish the process of the meth lab,” said Fraley.

Ratliff says he was trying to help the couple, who used to be his neighbors, but had recently gotten kicked out and had no place to go.

“You let somebody stay with you and this is what happens,” said Ratliff.

Police say they are still investigating what caused the fire.
