Pedophile Tracking Northern VA Man Gets 21 Years

A northern Virginia man has been sentenced to 21 years in prison in a case that prosecutors say involves the repeated sexual abuse of a child.

Jose Quintanilla was sentenced Thursday in Alexandria Circuit Court. He was convicted of forcible sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, production of child pornography and similar charges.

Once the 44-year-old is released from prison, he’ll be on supervised probation until his death.

Between 2011 and 2014, prosecutors say Quintanilla performed sex acts on a victim under the age of 13, against the victim’s will. They say Quintanilla videotaped the assaults a number of times and saved the files, which police recovered.

Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Cathryn Evans says she hopes the victim can “find some small degree of closure and that the process of healing can begin.”

Pedophile Tracking Oakland, FL Police Officer Arrested

A nine-year veteran police officer for the town of Oakland was arrested Wednesday on child sex charges involving a 2-year-old child to whom he had access.

Joshua David Smith, 32, of Lakeland, was arrested March 18 after detectives said he sent explicit images of the child to undercover officers. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd also said Smith sent disturbing messages.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

The investigation — conducted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation — began at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, when the FBI received a message on a social-networking site in reference to sex acts Smith was committing on a 2-year-old child, along with images of the child.

“The FBI received some information … outside of the state of Florida that someone was engaged in some horrific communications concerning the sexual abuse of very young children — as young as 2 years of age,” Judd said in a news conference this afternoon.

Following the tip, investigators went to Smith’s home in Lakeland.

“What we found there was absolutely startling,” Judd said. “We had photographs of a very young child. When our detectives and FBI agents went into the residents, we found that very young child wearing the exact same clothes that (were) in the photographs.

“This police officer, James Smith, sent these images to prove that he had access to a live child,” Judd said. “The conduct, the communication is so horrific, so graphic, so outrageous that the normal person would never, ever, ever be able to comprehend what was said,” he said.

In the communications with the undercover agents, Smith called himself “James King” and the “no-limit perv dad.”

Oakland Police Chief Steve Thomas said Smith was immediately placed on administrative leave indefinitely. He has both positive and negative write-ups in his file — but nothing that would indicate anything like this.

“We were clearly shocked when we learned of this investigation,” he said. “This was one police officer that was engaged in activities that we had no knowledge of. It had nothing to do with his job here.

“This is something that is appalling,” Thomas said. “We know this is going to cast a shadow. Please don’t judge our department by the actions of one officer.”

Although Oakland officers are assigned to help with traffic before and after school at Oakland Avenue Charter School, Thomas said Smith has been assigned to night patrol for quite some time.

“At this time, there’s no indication that any kids in Oakland were involved in this,” he said.

Thomas said his department has and will continue to be cooperative in the investigation.

“We have been and continue to work with Polk County in whatever they need,” he said.

Judd did not provide additional information regarding any possible relationship between Smith and the child; he only said Smith had access to the child. The child is now in the mother’s care; the mother did not know about what had been taking place.

By 6 p.m., Smith was arrested and charged with one count of directing/promoting sexual performance of a child. He currently is being held in the South County Jail in Frostproof in lieu of $150,000 bond. Further charges are pending a forensic analysis of the computer devices and cell phone seized from Smith’s home. Missing Person Silver Alert Issued for 76 Year Old Riverside County, CA Man

Authorities sought the public’s help Thursday to locate a 76-year-old man who was reported missing in Murrieta.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were sent around 2:42 a.m. to the 40000 block of Winchester Road for report of a missing person at a restaurant near Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed that Robert Cricks waited in a running vehicle while his wife entered the restaurant, and then drove away on Winchester Road towards Temecula.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Officials added he suffers from severe dementia, and did not have a cell phone or money in his possession at the time of his disappearance.

Cricks’ wife explained to officers she believes her husband is unfamiliar with the area, and will not be able to find his way home, or other familiar areas, on his own.

She went on to explain that the key fob for the vehicle is in her possession, and Cricks would not have the ability to restart the car if he turned it off.

A Silver Alert was issued through the California Highway Patrol in an effort to locate Cricks.

Detectives described him as a white man with gray hair and blue eyes, that stands 5-foot-11 tall, and weighs 165 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black ball cap with military pins, a blue jacket, a long sleeve blue shirt and blue jeans.

The vehicle was described as a silver 2007 Infinity G35 sedan, with a California disabled license plate that reads: 2304Ydp.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department at (951) 696-3119.

Wrongful Death Oroville, CA Man Admits to Killing Wife 36 Years Ago

A man accused of the death and disappearance of his wife 36 years ago in Oroville pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter Thursday in Butte County Superior Court.

Marvin Gail Owens, 62, faces a maximum of four years in prison for the death of Deborah Diane Owens, who was last seen in 1978. At the time of Deborah Owens’ disappearance, the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter was four years.

Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said Thursday his office offered Owens a deal to “get the truth after all of these years.” Part of the negotiations included Owens’ confession to killing his wife and helping authorities locate Deborah Owens’ remains.

 http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Ramsey said Owens admitted that on the morning of Nov. 19, 1978 he strangled his wife on a sudden impulse after “he snapped.” He then buried her body in a shallow grave in the Oroville Wildlife Area.

Authorities have been out with Owens on two occasions to attempt to pinpoint where he buried his wife, Ramsey said.

Owens was arrested Feb. 19 by Keith County sheriff’s deputies in Ogallala, Nebraska. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office said at the time of the arrest that it suspected for a long time that Owens had killed Deborah Owens and disposed of her body, but investigators finally felt they had enough evidence for an arrest warrant.

Ramsey previously said the evidence came from a 1988 search of Owens’ house in Mendocino County.

Deborah Owens, then 23, was reported missing Nov. 21, 1978, by Marvin Owens. He told authorities he last saw her at their home on Crestridge Drive in Oroville around 8:30 a.m., two days earlier.

Kevin Sears, Owens’ attorney, said that Owens wanted to cooperate with getting his and Deborah Owens’ two daughters closure and having his wife’s remains found.

He is strongly religious, and believes he needs to be clean in the eyes of God and needed to confess, Sears said. Marvin Owens’ initial response to the arrest was he wanted to fight the charges, but he told Sears that he prayed and decided to cooperate and find peace.

Sears said Owens told him that “he has been living in a ‘fantasy world’ that he has not known peace and that when (Owens) made this decision to come clean and talk about what happened, he describes a feeling of peace that he has been missing for (36) years.”

The deal reached between both sides also states that Owens, who is in a wheelchair and is said to be very ill, will not get credit for any time he has spent in custody prior to his sentencing, which is scheduled for April 16.

Owens is also helping authorities in the disappearance case of Essie Margarette Hiett, who went missing in February 1978.

Ramsey said Owens is not a person of interest in the Hiett case, but he knows the person who is. The name of the individual was not disclosed.

Hiett went missing after leaving work at the Card Room and Rusty Jacks. Her brown 1975 Oldsmobile sedan was found in a ditch, but her body was never found.
