A woman in Elizabethtown got the fright of her life when she woke up to discover a man sitting on her couch.

The News Enterprise reports that a woman heard a noise in her home and woke up to discover Daivd Young allegedly sitting in her living room. She told police that he left when she talked to him.

Young allegedly ran through the neighborhood knocking on doors and police say he was caught outside of a church after breaking a window there.

Police say Young smelled of alcohol. He has been charged with second degree burglary, disorderly conduct and alcohol intoxication.

He is being held on a $10,000 partially secured bail and will appear in court on March 27 at 9 a.m.

An arrest has been made in the overnight stabbing in Harrison County.

Officials did not release much information about the initial incident, but confirmed that a man was stabbed on Millcrest Court around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Tonjanika Anderson has been arrested and charged with first degree assault, tampering with evidence and third degree criminal mischief.

Police are investigating a possible rape on Georgetown College’s campus.  The incident was reported Wednesday night to police.

The suspect, Daniel Shindelbower, pleaded not guilty to a rape charge. Shindelbower is an 18-year-old freshman from Lexington who serves as a part time campus security escort. A spokesperson with Georgetown told LEX 18 that Shindelbower answers phones and that his position did not give him access to buildings.

Court records show that his accuser stated that she and Shindelbower were watching a movie. She told police that she fell asleep only to wake up without clothes on and Shindelbower having sex with her.  She reported the assault at 11:30 Wednesday and Shindelbower was arrested at 3 a.m. Thursday morning.

Georgetown college says any disciplinary action will be decided after the case is settled in court.

Shindelbower was released from jail after 10 percent of a $10,000 bond was posted.  He would not make a comment to LEX 18’s Richard Essex.

The Kentucky State Police are conducting a death investigation on Redwood Drive after a 14-year-old girl was shot and killed.

At 1:31 am the Dry Ridge Post received a 911 call stating that a female had been shot. Williamstown Police Department officers responded to the scene followed by KSP units. The female was declared deceased at the scene by the Grant County Coroners Office.

Initial investigation has revealed that a 14 year old juvenile female suffered a fatal gunshot wound. The girl’s identity has not yet been released.

The case is under investigation by Kentucky State Police.

A Lexington man has been arrested for allegedly attempting to engage in sexual activity with an underage girl. On Wednesday, the Attorney General’s Cybercrimes Unit arrested 48-year-old Sherwin D. Collins, who is also known as “Rick”.

Collins’ arrest is the result of a two-week undercover investigation by Kentucky’s Cybercrimes Unit. According to investigators, Collins exchanged emails and text messages with a person he met on Craigslist who he believed to be the mother of an 11-year-old girl. Investigators allege that Collins traveled to Frankfort after making arrangements with the mother to meet her and her daughter for the purposes of engaging in sexual contact with the child. Collins also allegedly sent inappropriate pictures of himself, divulging his identity. Collins was arrested in Frankfort and a search warrant was executed at his Lexington home.

Collins has been charged with one count of unlawful use of electronic means originating or received within the Commonwealth to induce a minor to engage in a sexual or other prohibited activities. The crime is a Class D felony and is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Collins was booked into the Franklin County Detention Center on Wednesday and arraigned this morning at 9 a.m. His bond was set at $10,000 full cash.

Two young children have been placed in protective custody in Wayne County after allegations of sexual abuse by their parents. Because of their age, police are restricted as to how much information they can release about the case.
However, the condition of the home that the children were living in speaks volumes.

It may never be known exactly what happened in the house, but looking at the garbage laden yard, it is clear that the dwelling was anything but a home.
John and Jacqueline Fawcett are said to be running from police which, perhaps, explains why they wouldn’t answer the door for our reporter.

The local police have been making regular visits to the Fawcett place for a month.  Now though, with allegations of sexual abuse surfacing, it appears as though they’ve taken off.

The neighbors are concerned too.

“We have seen cops for the past month,” one neighbor said. “We just didn’t know what was going on.”

The neighbor wished to remain anonymous, but said that they suspected something was going on when one of the children started acting at school and on a bus ride home.

The neighbor told the reporter that the child was “torturing the other kids really aggressive spitting biting that kinda thing.”

LEX 18 will continue to follow this story, but as of now, it appears that as allegations mounted, the Fawcetts left town in a hurry.

Police are still investigating the case.

Bige Asher is described as a white male, 90 years old, about 5’7″, 120 lbs, brown eyes and short gray hair.  He was last seen on Sunday afternoon on US 25 W in northern Whitley County.  Asher takes various types of medicine.

He was last seen wearing a purple dress shirt, navy blue dress jacket, work pants and an Army ball cap.

It is possible that he is driving a blue Jeep Cherokee. He may have access to weapons.

The coroner has released the cause of death for a man found lying in the middle of a Lexington Street.

Vondre Smithers, 20, was spotted around 7 a.m. lying in the middle of Bellefonte Drive.
Initially it was unclear if Smithers had been hit by a vehicle, but first responders quickly discovered he had been shot. That gunshot wound was ultimately determined to be the cause of death, according to a press release from the coroner’s office.

Smithers was pronounced dead at UK Hospital. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has labeled the case a homicide. According to the release, Smithers also sustained trauma to his chest which indicated he had been struck by a vehicle.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to contact the Lexington Division Of Police.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities are still searching for a missing Buncombe County couple.

Investigators spent Monday searching around the property at 87 Hookers Gap Road, the home of Cristie and Joseph “JT” Codd.

Concerned family members contacted the sheriff’s office on Sunday. When deputies arrived at their home, they found the couple left their vehicles there and both of their dogs were inside the house.

“And we conducted a search and began a missing persons investigation,” Natalie Bailey said, spokeswoman for the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office.

Cristie Codd has a surprising claim to fame; she competed during season 8 of the show “Food Network Star.”

Her bio clip on the Food Network website includes a picture of her fishing with her husband JT.

“If I won the Food Network Star, it would be about changing everyone else’s life that’s watching my show,” Cristie says on her bio video.

Neighbor Chad Terry says they recently moved here from California.

“They are a really nice couple, I don’t know what had happened,” Terry says. “They take trips and stay gone occasionally but they’re nice and you never hear a thing from them.”

Authorities are searching the area around her home. The North Carolina Highway Patrol’s helicopter hovered above for much of the day.

“It is mountainous terrain, quite a few trees, and homes interspersed,” Bailey explains. “There are challenges in doing a search like this.”

Loved ones and neighbors are more worried as time passes.

“Hope they find them,” Terry says. “Hate to hear anything about the neighbors. They are are really nice couple.”

It’s an active investigation and there is no new information is available at this time.

Firefighters and police are on the scene of a fatal accident in Montgomery County.

The two-vehicle accident happened around around 7:30 a.m. along US-60. Officials confirm at least one fatality. David Knox, 58, from Menifee County was pronounced dead on the scene. Another person was airlifted from the scene. Officials have not released any information on that person’s condition.
