Pedophile Tracking Kaufman County, TX Sex Offender Sentenced to 99 Years

A registered sex offender found guilty by a Kaufman County jury last month of additional sexual assault charges was sentenced to 99 years in prison today by Kaufman County 422nd District Judge B. Michael Chitty.

55-year-old Pedro Segura Jr. was found guilty of one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony, by the jury on September 17, 2014, and, after hearing witness testimony in the sentencing hearing today, Judge Chitty sentenced Segura to 99 years in prison.

The charges against Segura stem back to January 2010, according to the indictment. Segura is accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14 continuously from on or about January 1, 2010, through September 26, 2011.

A pre-sentence investigation report was conducted by Megan Taylor with the Kaufman County Adult Probation office. During an interview with Segura for that report, Taylor testified Segura admitted to sexually abusing his granddaughter, who was the victim in the current case, by touching her breast and vagina. Segura admitted to Taylor to also touching his step-daughter in a similar manner and to sexual contact with another unnamed woman without her consent.

Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Lauren Cook also introduced Segura’s prior sexual contact conviction in Harris County in 1991 which required him to register as a sexual offender for life.

“We’re very satisfied with the sentence,” Cook told inForney.com. “We wanted life, but happy with 99. We’re glad its over for the family.”

During a victim impact statement, the mother of the abused child called Segura a “demon” and said, “You had a chance to be a father and you failed at that. You had a chance to be a grandfather and you failed at that. You took the innocence from my daughter.”

Segura was remanded into the custody of the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office after the sentencing and will be transferred to the Texas Department of Corrections prison system.

Cold Case Mother Seeks Answers in Son’s Hit-and-Run Death

Nearly three months after crews found a man dead on the side of a Pulaski County Road the case has gone cold.

Investigators say they think 45-year-old Ricky Meredith was hit by a vehicle but so far no one has come forward. Meredith’s mother pleads for answers.

A tattoo on the arm of Betty Jones’s son, showed the love the two shared.

“It said ‘I love you mom’ and when he got it done he come show me. He said mom that’s true,” says Jones.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

On July 8, a road crew found 45-year-old Ricky Meredith on the side of Highway 452 in Pulaski County. Meredith’s girlfriend told deputies he left their home the night of July 6 and was walking toward Highway 27.

Deputies say they think Meredith may have been the victim of a late night hit and run.

Now three months later, the case has gone cold. Investigators say the few tips they received turned up nothing. Jones hopes someone out there can help identify the driver or the vehicle involved.

“And I don’t hate them. I just want them to come forward and be honest with me about it. I pray for them that God will save them and straighten their lives up,” says Jones.
