Drug Dog Sweep 2 CA Men Arrested for Heroin

Two California men were arrested over the weekend during an Oregon State Police traffic stop that yielded $55,000 worth of heroin found in the trunk.

The stop happened just after midnight Saturday along Interstate 5 near Medford.

A trooper pulled over a 2011 Honda Accord near milepost 33 for a speed violation. A search of the vehicle by a drug detection canine turned up 1.6 pounds of heroin in the trunk, said Lieutenant Gregg Hastings, an OSP spokesman.

Pedophile Tracking Todd County Man Charged in 3 Count Indictment

A Todd County, Kentucky man was charged in a three-count indictment this week, with persuading, inducing, and coercing two minor females to engage in sexually explicit conduct and with receiving child pornography, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

Jesse Sanford Williams, age 34, was arrested on March 7, 2014, by federal agents in Kentucky, following an investigation that began in the state of Washington on March 28, 2013. According to an affidavit attached to a criminal complaint, Williams allegedly blackmailed, by threat, at least two minor, teen girls in order to receive sexually explicit images of them by means of multiple Gmail and Yahoo Internet accounts. The alleged activities took place between June 2011 and March 2013. Victim-1 lived in Washington and was 13 years of age at the onset of the Internet threats. Victim-2 lived in Todd County and was approximately the same age. At all times, Williams concealed his age and identity from the victims. A subpoena of e-mail accounts determined all e-mail accounts shared the same Internet protocol (IP) address from an account located at Logan Aluminum, a large manufacturing facility located near Russellville, Kentucky. Logan Aluminum officials assisted federal agents in identifying Williams, an employee, as the e-mail account holder through a comparison of computer login times to company work schedules and attendance record, and by reviewing footage from a video camera located inside the plant and near the computer that Williams used. Williams also faces one count of knowingly receiving child pornography between June 2011 and March 2013.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

If convicted at trial, Williams faces no more than a combined 60-year term in prison, a fine of $750,000, and a term of supervised release including up to life.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marisa Ford and is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Louisville and Seattle Divisions and police in Washington State.

The indictment of a person by a grand jury is an accusation only and that person is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Missing Person Lyubov Bilyk of Portland, Oregon

Police are asking the public to help find a Portland woman who failed to return home on March 15.

The woman, Lyubov Bilyk (pronounced “Loo-bov Bill-ick”), was reported missing by family members. She was last seen at approximately 5:00 a.m. that morning, and may have left her residence in the 2200 block of Southeast Umatilla Street on foot.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Bilyk is described as a white female, 30 years old, 5’5″, 120 pounds. She has brown hair and green eyes. She has no eyebrows, and sometimes draws them in with makeup. She usually wears large, dark-colored sunglasses. Bilyk is Russian, but speaks English well, with a strong accent. She may have left with a small, rolling carry-on bag.

Bilyk may be suffering from a medical condition which may need immediate attention.

According to police, there is additional concern for Bilyk’s welfare because some of her personal property was found on the ground, nearby her residence by a passerby, which was then returned to her family. That prompted the family to file a missing person report on March 17.

Missing Persons Unit detectives and Central Precinct officers have been searching the area for any possible witnesses or additional evidence. Police say that, at this point, there is no evidence of any foul play being involved in Bilyk’s disappearance.

Anyone who knows of Bilyk’s whereabouts is asked to immediately call 9-1-1.

Anyone with additional, non-emergency information about this case is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein, at (503) 823-0446 or Mike.Weinstein@portlandoregon.gov.

Wrongful Death Former Nursing MA Confessed to Killing Patient

A former nursing home medical assistant who confessed to killing one of his patients made chilling statements to police detectives during an interview.

Police say David Satterfield, 34, came forward in January and said he injected a fatal dose of insulin into Marcelline Katherine Sommer Vale, 86, in July of 2007. In a recently released recording of his interview with Louisville detectives, Satterfield says he took Oxycontin before injecting three patients with insulin.

“There really, there wasn’t any rhyme or reason. I just kind of thought it was…their time, I guess,” he said.

Satterfield mentioned two other victim’s in the interview, but investigators say they’ve not verified the others.

Arson Investigation Man Charged with Setting Ex’s Car on Fire in Lexington

Lexington police arrested a man they say torched his ex-girlfriend’s car after a fight earlier this month.

According to court documents, Paul Leach, 35, kicked in the door of his ex’s Radcliffe Road home and broke her TV after an earlier argument. Police say he also assaulted the woman, causing some scratches and bruises. Police say the victim told them that once Leach was outside the house, she went back inside and got a large kitchen knife to keep him from harming her further. She said she also called her cousin to come and make Leach leave her property. Police say at that point, Leach began screaming and threatening to kill her cousin if he showed up. Court documents indicate Leach left the front yard when the victim called police.

According to court documents, Leach returned about two hours later and set the victim’s car on fire. A witness reported seeing Leach’s car speeding away at the time of the fire.

Police arrested Leach Wednesday and charged him with burglary, arson, criminal mischief and assault.

Pedophile Tracking Eagle Point, Oregon Man Gets 37 Years

43-year-old Christopher Keith Hammer, of Eagle Point, is the man who will spend the next 37-years in prison for producing child pornography after a judged handed down the sentence on Monday.

According to the Department of Justice, Hammer was tracked down through a nationwide FBI child pornography investigation that revealed he distributed child porn from an e-mail account linked to Hammer’s home.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

Hammer’s neighbor Ben Shelton remembers the day police showed up next door to arrest Hammer. It happened about a year ago, but the memory is still fresh in Shelton’s memory.

“They were raiding his house getting all his computer equipment,” recalled Shelton.

“As far as I knew he seemed like a nice guy,” he said.

What court documents say about the abuse

However, according to court documents, Hammer took sexually explicit pictures of a 4-year-old relative, shared them online,  encouraged others to sexually abuse their own children, and expressed a desire to sexually exploit other children.

“Here I am a family of four and this crap [happens] right next door and you don’t even know. It’s sad,” said Shelton.

“These pictures represent the worst type of child sex offender — one who not only sexually exploits children, but also documents and shares his experiences with others, and encourages others to do the same,” said U.S. Attorney for Oregon Amanda Marshall.

Investigators said they found more than 5,000 pictures and nearly 200 videos of child porn on Hammer’s cell phones and e-mail accounts.

According to the Department of Justice, Hammer has a track record. Officials at the DOJ said in 1994, Hammer sexually abused a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old relative in California. It resulted in two felony convictions for Lewd and Lascivious Acts Upon a Child Under 14.

Local law enforcement task force says more than half of cases deal with child sex abuse

Lieutenant Mike Anderson is part of the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force that investigated the abuse. While he couldn’t speak to the case specifically, he said the task force works on several cases a day involving child porn.

“It occurs a lot more often than people want to admit,” said Anderson.

According to Anderson, of the roughly 240 cases the task force investigated last year, between 60%-70% dealt with child exploitation.

“We’re trying to stay on top of it. It’s a challenge it really is.”

Technology making things more difficult

The enormous scope of the World Wide Web doesn’t help.

“Now that technology has really come into everybody’s life, the internet being not only on phones and computers. Walking down the street you can get wireless access points. Years ago we didn’t have that access so it wasn’t very prolific,” said Anderson.

He said not that the internet is more readily available, the task force is constantly getting cases dealing with child porn.

In addition, it’s not just the increased access that has officials shaking their heads.

“Technology has really ramped up the trauma that these children suffer,” said Tammi Pitzen, Executive Director at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Jackson County.

She said once sexually graphic pictures are distributed on the internet, they’re hard to get rid of.

“It’s there always,” she said.

We’re told the four-year-old involved in the case is getting the help they need.

Signs to look out for

According to Pitzen, the signs of abuse are trauma. Here are a few things to look out for.

– Interruption in a child’s sleep pattern: Either they’re sleeping too much or too little.

– Kids frequently having nightmares

– Differences in a child’s appetite: Either they’re eating too much or not enough.

– A child regressing in their behaviors: An example is if they’re potty trained, then all of a sudden one day they’re not.

– Signs to look out for in adults: if there’s someone who wants to spend more time with a child than their parents, think about the motivation behind it.

Pitzen said if anyone is suspicious and feel that the child is being harmed, they should pick up the phone and call law enforcement or the Department of Human Services. Another option is to have a conversation with the child.

The Children’s Advocacy Center of Jackson County offers a child abuse prevention program called “Darkness to Light.” It occurs once a month. Visit the CAC’s website for details: http://www.cacjc.org/

Missing Person Police Search for Mercer County Man Who Escaped from Hart County Jail

Police are looking for a Mercer County man who escaped while serving time in a south-central Kentucky jail.

David Bruner escaped from custody in Hart County on Friday during work release and is accused of stealing a vehicle from the road department as part of his getaway.

The 47-year-old was serving time in the Hart County jail for receiving stolen property and fleeing and evading police out of Mercer and Boyle counties. They believe he stole a county truck found abandoned in Louisville over the weekend.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

When chief deputy Scott Elder with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was told of the escape, he wasn’t that surprised.

“He likes to steal; he’s a convicted burglar. Convicted of receiving stolen property multiple times,” Elder said. “He has fled from law enforcement.”

Surveillance video from 2004 shows Bruner throwing a rock through a Burgin convenience store window, then stealing the cash register.

He’d just been released from jail a couple months earlier for a similar crime.

Elder says Hart County contacted his office, so they could be on the lookout.

“Mr. Bruner is from here, his family is here. He’s been arrested here multiple times,” Elder said. “He could already be here and we not know it. So that’s why we want the public, if they know the whereabouts of Mr. Bruner, to call the Sheriff’s Office.”

David’s father, who lives in Mercer County, he hasn’t seen or heard from his son. He says if he did, he’d call police.
