Private Detective Police ID Hary County Woman Found Dead

Kentucky State Police have identified a woman found dead in an abandoned Hart County home early in December.

Police say the woman is Podesta Owens, 57, who is originally from Memphis. They say she was also known by several other names.

Earlier this week, KSP released a photo of the shirt Owens was wearing when she was found dead inside the abandoned home on Old Dixie Hwy in Hart County while they were checking on a stray dog a neighbor had noticed going in and out of the home.

It is not clear if the woman has family in the area or if funeral services are to be arranged.

Cold Case Austin Police Seek Help in 30 Year Old Missing Person Case

Thirty years is a long time to be without your mom. Barbara Nash says everyday she lives with the pain.

“…It doesn’t go away…Me and Gracie were close,” said Barbara.

So close they were more like sisters than mother and daughter.

“I know she didn’t just up and leave us. She had too much love for us.”

In 1983, Gracie Nash was a 39-year-old nurse’s aide at what used to be the Eastfare Nursing Home in the 2800 of East Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. She was last seen at about 11 p.m. on the night of December 26th.

http://liarcatchers.com/cold_cases.html

“Time has gone by, people have information that could be useful,” said Detective J.J. Schmidt, with APD’s Missing Persons Unit.

He says they’re working together with Homicide to try and solve this 30-year-old cold case.

“We’ve got to pick up the pieces and try and figure out what happened,” Schmidt said.

For starters, they’re re-looking at evidence from Gracie’s car. It was found two days after she vanished.

Schmidt added, “It was obvious signs of a struggle and a violent attack took place.”

Investigators discovered blood inside, plus clothing at the scene, on east 22nd Street.

“It’s still classified as a missing person,” said Schmidt. “Ultimately, hopefully, we’ll get there. The families want to know what’s being done and if it was my loved one, I’d expect the same thing.”

“December’s just not a good month for us,” said Barbara.

Six weeks after Gracie disappeared, Barbara says her uncle was shot to death outside his home. Investigators believe his murder and her disappearance could be connected to another brother’s girlfriend.

Barbara said, “My grandmother got a phone call and it was a woman on the other end of the phone and she said she said to her, ‘if you want to see your daughter alive again, you need to tell your son to drop the charges.'”

Their brother, Melvin, was shot in the wrist by his girlfriend two months before Gracie disappeared.

“You a cold-hearted person,” said Barbara. “It just makes me so mad, to think what they might have done or what they did do to her. I don’t wish them no good. I’m sorry. I can’t.”

Police found Gracie’s car thanks to tips from the community and Barbara’s holding out hope it will happen again.

“I just walk on faith every day,” she added. “If you know something just call the police department, anything, just to help us out to get closure.”

The APD Missing Persons Unit has received more than 3,000 reports so far this year. The detective says the majority of missing people are recovered.

If you have any information about Gracie Nash, please call police.

Private Detective Man Accused of Kidnapping Says He Has Proof He’s Innocent

A man arrested in Madison County on kidnapping charges in October says he has evidence to prove he is innocent.

The truth, says Erroll Johnson, will come out during his trial next month.

“It’s definitely a set up. Thats what I make of it. It was set up from the beginning,” he said.

Johnson, along with three others, was arrested in October, accused of kidnapping a woman and holding her hostage. Police caught up with the group near exit 90 on I-75 and made the arrests. Johnson says it came as a shock – he thought they were helping the woman track down stolen money that her boyfriend owed someone in the group.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

“We never knew that she wanted to go home, we never knew that she felt threatened for her life until the police walked up to the car,” he said. “And when they walked up to the car, she didn’t panic, she didn’t say ‘hey, please help me get out the car.”

LEX 18 spoke with the woman the day after the arrests and her story didn’t match Johnson’s.

“I have babies. They could’ve lost their mother for something I know nothing about,” she said.

But Johnson says surveillance video from a gas station shows the alleged victim walking in and out of the car with no urgency or attempt to alert anyone.

“That shows that she couldn’t have been kidnapped,” he said.

In addition to kidnapping, officers say drugs and guns were thrown from the vehicle before it came to a stop. Johnson is also facing attempted murder charges out of Detroit.

He wouldn’t comment on many of the allegations, but did say he hopes for one thing.

“I just want them to at least be fair about it,” he said.

Pedophile Tracking Man Arrested in Fulton County, GA

Alpharetta police say the recent arrest of a wanted sex offender underscores the need for sex abuse victims to come forward.

Police say the arrest of 47-year-old Elmer Moffitt has taken a dangerous predator off the streets.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

“I strongly urge victims to come forward, and if an event of anything like this occurred, go tell an adult you trust,” said Alpharetta police spokesman George Gordon.
He said if the brave young girl hadn’t spoken up, Moffitt might still be on the streets.

“The victim came forward after about a 2-year period of time. The initial incident occurred in 2011 at a residence here in Alpharetta,” Gordon said.

Police said the attack happened while Moffitt was staying with the girl’s family at their home. An arrest report said Moffitt forced himself onto the girl several times.

“The juvenile victim gave testimony for a forensic examination by interview and other details, and we believe the validity of her story,” Gordon said.

Even more disturbing for police was when they checked Moffitt’s record. They learned he was already a convicted sex offender in Minnesota — wanted there for failing to register.

“He had a nationwide, no-extradition felony arrest warrant for him,” Gordon said.

U.S. marshals arrested Moffitt in the days before Christmas at a McDonough home.

A relief for police, who said he’s a sexual predator who would likely strike again if not caught.

“It’s abhorrent that this goes on, but it does. We’re going to take quick action as soon as we can,” Gordon said.

Moffitt is in the Fulton County Jail without a bond. He’s facing several child molestation charges, as well as charges out of Minnesota for being a fugitive.
