According to police reports, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Saturday, the victim’s mother, Michelle Gelling, allowed the victim, Markell to travel to St. Louis from Jefferson City with family members of Demitrius for a Christmas gathering.

The family members took Markell to St. Louis and then released him to the custody of Demitrius.

Although the child was partially raised by Gelling and Demitrius, the suspect has no legal rights to Markell and is not the biological father of the victim.

Demitrius and Gelling have exchanged a series of text messages and phone calls and during those calls, Demitrius made threats to Gelling that the child would not be returned to her and made threats to others trying to take the child from him.

Upon further investigation, there is no indication that there was a Christmas gathering in St. Louis and the intention was to give Markell to Demitrius.

Anyone seeing Markell or Demitrius or anyone having any information related to this case should call 911 to contact the nearest law enforcement agency or call the Jefferson City Police Department at 573-634-6351.

Missing Person Remains Discovered in 2 Year Old Case

Investigators in Lexington County made a discovery two years in the making recently, finding the remains of a 22-year-old man missing since Christmas 2011.

The parents of Michael George have missed their son since his disappearance.

“I look everywhere for him,” said Helen George, Michael George’s mother. “People walking down the road, I take a second look.”

It has been a long and painful journey for the George family, but now maybe there is peace after the discovery of the remains of their son.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“It’s still hard for me to take. I still think of him as being here right now. I haven’t used the past tense,” Helen George said.

Warrants allege that sometime in the days leading up to Christmas 2011, William Thomas Embree and Jamey Charles Mallette kidnapped George from a bar near Cayce.

A third person was arrested and charged earlier this year in connection with the disappearance, but Gary and Helen George said it still does not bring their son back.

“There’s no closure yet,” said Michael’s father Gary George.

“Yes we have him home, but there is still a criminal case that is actively being investigated.”

While investigators continue working leads in the case, the family decided this year they would be leaving a small Christmas tree at the spot they named “Michael’s Place” right where investigators found his abandoned car.

This year, instead of staying home for Christmas, they are leaving town to be with the two kids, a boy and girl aged three and four, that their son left behind.

“The tree fit perfect, so it was one of those things that was meant to be,” Gary George said.

Now, as they get ready to lay their son Michael to rest, they can say he is found, but realize there are questions left unanswered.

“As much as I would have liked to tell all those who have prayed, it’s not over. We still need information,” Gary George said.

The George’s said they have not yet made arrangements for a funeral, but are planning to cremate their son’s remains.

They said they are planning to have a service sometime soon after the beginning of the year.

Missing Person Greensboro Police Reopen 40 Year Old Case

One Triad family has a Christmas wish you can’t buy in any store. They simply want to know what happened to a family member who disappeared nearly 40 years ago.

Veronica Maynard was only 17-years-old when she vanished in Greensboro back in 1974. Her family believes Veronica is dead. Now, they just want to give her a proper burial.

Greensboro police have agreed to reopen case, after family members asked detectives to take another look. The person police and family members think is responsible died almost a decade ago. No one is looking to make an arrest. They just want to find Veronica’s body.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

“She was my best friend,” Maynard’s sister, Brenda Tucker, said. “She was a cheerful and an outgoing person.”

Alfreda Morris, another sister of Maynard, added, “We had fun times together…It makes me cry a lot, especially this time of year.”

Maynard’s sisters have never stopped looking for her or thinking about her.

“She always wanted to be a beautician. I do remember that. She made all of her daughter’s clothes,” Morris said.

Detectives have investigated this case for the past forty years and just recently reopened it. There are only a handful of missing person questions still open in Greensboro.

“I wish DNA was back in 1974 what it is now. There definitely was some evidence that was seized in 1975 that I feel probably could have lead to an arrest in this case,” Greensboro Police Detective Caroline Holliday said.

Now, Maynard’s sisters are entering their DNA into a national database that includes DNA information collected from unidentified remains all over the nation. If there’s a match, they will get the closure they so desperately want.

In addition, the sisters are also asking anyone with information to come forward. Police say Maynard’s husband, Julian, has always been the prime suspect. He died of a heart attack in 2004. Police never had the evidence needed for an arrest.

“I think a lot of people were scared to talk while he was living,” Tucker said. “We know that someone out there does know something about it.”

Morris added, “People will start talking now. Now, that they don’t feel that threat from him…”I pray that you give us closure. Let us know if you know anything.”

Detective Holliday says cases like this haunt police officers as well. “Think about Veronica’s family. They have been the victims all these years. They’ve had to go through holiday after holiday, birthday after birthday, just not knowing,” she said.

The governor offered a $2500 reward for information about this case back in 1978. WFMY News 2 checked with the governor’s office on Friday and that reward money is still available.

Anyone with information can also call Crime Stoppers: 336-373-1000. You can remain anonymous or possibly collect a reward up to $2,000.
