Identity Theft Wisconsin Woman Accused

A woman whose husband was convicted of starting a fire that killed three of their children and badly burned her is accused of identity theft while was she was recovering.

Sharon Wand, 28, was charged earlier this month with six felony counts of identity theft and one count of misdemeanor theft in Iowa County, according to the Wisconsin State Journal (http://bit.ly/17XwviY).

Wand sustained third-degree burns over much of her body during Argyle fire in September 2012. Killed were 7-year-old Allen Wand, 5-year-old, Jeffery Wand and 3-year-old Joseph Wand. Her 2-year-old daughter, Jessica, survived. Her husband, Armin Wand III, and his brother, Jeremy Wand, were eventually convicted.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Wand was pregnant at the time and lost the fetus.

According to the criminal complaint, while recovering at a Dodgeville nursing home the 28-year-old allegedly ordered flowers for herself for Mother’s Day from two different florists using names of at least five different people. The florists later learned that the addresses were incorrect.

Two of the orders included two bouquets and totaled $47.20 each, a third order for three bouquets totaled $82.52, and a fourth order for three bouquets totaled $88.31.

Police interviewed Wand with her guardian present at her room May 20, and Wand said she was shocked when she received all the flowers.

Wand said three of the people whose names were used to charge for the flowers were her cousins and she didn’t know the other two names.

In May, Wand was charged with three counts of misdemeanor theft after police said she stole jewelry, a ceramic figurine and other items at the same facility.

A status conference is set for Nov. 12 for all the charges.

A message left Sunday for Wand’s attorney was not immediately returned.

Insurance Fraud PA Man Gets 7 Years

A former employee for a now-defunct Camden County construction company was sentenced to seven years in state prison for participating in an insurance fraud scheme involving homes allegedly damaged by hail, Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman said.

Marcin Gradziel, 34, of Lake Worth, FL, who lived in Pennsylvania at the time the scheme took place, previously pleaded guilty to second-degree insurance fraud, Hoffman said.

Gradziel admitted he caused fraudulent property damage claims to be submitted for damage suffered by three homes in Camden and Gloucester counties, Hoffman said. He did so on behalf of Precision Network Solutions, d.b.a. Precision Builders, of Voorhees. Claims were submitted to Traveler’s Insurance Company.

http://liarcatchers.com/insurance_fraud.html

An investigation determined Gradziel was involved in a group that canvassed neighborhoods, advising homeowners they needed new roofs and siding at no cost due to damage created by hail. Multiple homeowners told investigators they were unaware of any damage done to their homes prior to being approached by Precision Builders, according to Hoffman.

Investigators determined that Gradziel visited the homes and intentionally caused damage to them prior to an adjuster’s inspection, Hoffman said.

“Homeowners have enough to deal with without con artists inflicting unwarranted damage onto their homes and causing an unnecessary financial burden,” Hoffman said in a prepared statement.  “The lengthy sentence imposed today serves as a reminder that committing insurance fraud in New Jersey can, and will, lead to prison.”

“The Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor will continue to work hand-in-hand with insurance companies to identify fraudulent schemes such as this one so that valuable resources are not diverted for illegal purposes,” Acting Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Ronald Chillemi said in the statement.

Dominik Sadowski, 37, of Sellersville, PA, previously pleaded guilty to third degree insurance fraud in connection with this case, Hoffman said.

Precision Builders previously pleaded guilty to second-degree insurance fraud in connection with this case. The group paid $68,720 in restitution before being sentenced, and went out of business as a result.

The Beaverton Police Departments wants to remind parents of the importance of monitoring your child’s time on the internet. With so many different social networking sites, the chances of our children being victimized are greatly increased.

Here are some tips on keeping your child safe while on line:

Have the computer in a family area where you and others can see the monitor.
Check the computers history often to see what sites your child is going to.
Have the password for all social network and email accounts your child uses.
Have your child friend you so you can see what is going on.
If your child has a smart phone limit the apps they can install and check the phone often.
Set parental controls on the computer and or router.

Talk to your child about the dangers of meeting people on the internet.

This incident was discovered because the victim’s mother felt something was wrong and began checking on line and on her daughter’s cell phone.

It is important for us to be reminded of the dangers that are associated with the internet when it comes to our children.
