Wrongful Death 2 Men Arrested in Oregon Homicide

Oregon authorities say two men are in custody in Utah in connection with the shooting death of a Lebanon, Ore., man whose parents found his body at his remote Oregon campsite.

Linn County Undersheriff Bruce Riley said Friday that Utah Highway Patrol officers found evidence linked to the slaying of 48-year-old Wayne Klavano when they arrested Travis Powers of Windsor, Colo., and Daniel Armbrecht of Pagosa Springs, Colo., on Tuesday.

Riley did not say what that evidence was.

The two were arrested initially for investigation of drug offenses. Riley says the Linn County Circuit Court has issued murder arrest warrants for both. They’re being held in Brigham City, Utah.

The undersheriff says Powers has ties to Linn County.

Concerned that he missed an appointment, Klavano’s parents went to his campsite north of Oregon Highway 20 and found his body on Tuesday.

Missing Person Donna O’Connor of Patterson, NY

Patterson resident Donna O’Connor continued to hold out hope for her daughter who has been missing since July 22 after sending her mother a disturbing text message that read “I’m scared.”

Dana Lauren Bonanno, a 1998 Carmel High School graduate, was last seen by her roommates on Freeman Street in the Greenpoint section of Brooklyn where she lives. O’Connor said the text she received from her only child came about 11:10 that night.

“I can’t stop to think about what’s going on and get upset. What good is that going to do,” said O’Connor, who was driving home from Florida on Thursday. “We just need to find her.”

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Friends have taken to social media and posting missing-person fliers throughout New York City to help police in the search. A New York Police Department spokesman said Thursday that Bonanno was reported missing July 27 with the 94th Precinct in Brooklyn .

O’Connor said she contacted police July 23 but was told her daughter could not be reported missing at that time because she was 33 years old and had no history of abuse. O’Connor continued to call police each day and said it was either July 26 or July 27 that they went out and spoke with her roommates, and they declared her missing July 27.

O’Connor said Bonanno was laid off in April from her job as a paralegal at A&E Networks. She had worked as a legal secretary for the White Plains law firm Bleakley, Platt and Schmidt from 2001 to 2005, a representative confirmed.

While Bonanno was upset about losing her job, her mother said she was not prone to taking off during difficult periods and that they spoke every one to two weeks.

“This is not typical of her behavior,” she said.

Bonanno’s friend, Daniel Mandelbaum, reiterated that the disappearance is not like her.

“She’s a very outgoing and positive girl,” Mandelbaum said. “That’s why we’re all so worried. This is completely out of character for her.”

Mandelbaum, who lives in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, said he and Bonanno have been close friends for two years and that they bonded over music, often frequenting the same nightclubs. She’s interested in pursuing a career in electronic music, he said.

Greenpoint is generally a safe neighborhood, but police were searching for a suspect there in late June in the sexual attack on a young woman at knife-point.

Bonanno did not normally go out on Monday nights, mostly just weekends, Mandelbaum said. She was part of a group of friends called Supporting Our Underground Properly, promoting music events throughout the city, member Liz Rivera said.

“We’re like a family. We’re always together. She would at least contact one of us,” said Rivera, who last saw Bonanno briefly Monday afternoon. “She was sad that she was unemployed, but I don’t see her just taking off for that.”

Rivera added that Bonanno has a cat named Love Song and that she would never leave the cat unattended.

Both Mandelbaum and Rivera started a Facebook page for Dana Lauren Bonanno to post information and to update friends and family.

Wrongful Death Letcher County Triple Murder/ Suicide

A Jenkins man killed his girlfriend and two other people before taking his own life early Friday because he apparently thought the three had stolen his money, Letcher County Coroner Marty Baker said.

The apparent triple homicide and suicide was discovered by authorities at 2:15 a.m. Friday.

Baker said authorities suspect that Timothy Shelby, 58, a retiree of the U.S. Postal Service and the military, first shot and killed his girlfriend, Jennifer Walters, 35, at their home on Oak Street in Jenkins.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Shelby apparently then went to a home on Ginseng Drive in Jenkins and shot and killed Joshua Wyatt, 25, and Amy Ratliff, 31, before turning the gun on himself, Baker said.

Authorities have been told in interviews that Shelby thought the three had stolen money from him, Baker said.

Kentucky State Police were called early Friday after juveniles found Shelby dead inside the Ginseng Road home When police got there, they also found the bodies of Wyatt and Ratliff, Baker said.

About an hour later, police found Waters dead at the home she shared with Shelby on Oak Street, Baker said.

Identity Theft Texas Man Sentenced in Mississippi

Mikel Chad Adams, 42, of Dallas, Texas, was sentenced Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden to serve 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release for producing, using, and trafficking in counterfeit credit cards, announced U.S. Attorney Gregory K. Davis and Allen W. Bryant, Resident Agent in Charge, U.S. Secret Service.

Adams was also ordered to pay $16,526 in restitution to the credit card companies.

Adams was arrested after attempting to use a fraudulent credit card at a gas station in Pass Christian. A search of Adams and his car revealed several sheets of paper listing debit and credit card numbers, as well as sheets of laminate paper.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

Some of the laminate paper had account numbers printed on them that matched the account numbers found on the sheets of paper. Adams would affix the laminate with the credit card account numbers to blank credit cards and create the fraudulent cards to make purchases.

The investigation revealed that the account numbers were actual numbers belonging to two major banks. A total of 916 account numbers from the two issuing banks were found, and approximately 638 true account holder victims were identified and notified that their account numbers had been compromised.

Prior to his guilty plea in the counterfeit credit card case, Adams failed to appear as required under the terms and conditions of his bond and was thereafter arrested on a bench warrant. He has since been indicted and pled guilty for failure to appear and is set for sentencing in that case on Aug. 14.

Private Detective Barren County Sheriff Sentenced on Two Counts

Barren County (Kentucky) Sheriff Christopher Brian Eaton, 42, of Glasgow, Kentucky, was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Joseph H. McKinley, Jr. to serve an 18-month prison term followed by two years of supervised release, after a jury convicted him on May 9, 2013 of two counts of obstructing justice during a federal criminal civil rights investigation conducted by the FBI. Eaton was convicted of corruptly persuading two of his deputies to write false reports regarding an alleged unreasonable use of force against a man arrested by Eaton and several of his deputies outside a church on February 24, 2010.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Eaton was convicted of directing the first deputy, who did not participate in the arrest, to write a report which falsely stated that Eaton and the deputy had walked back to the area where the individual had been arrested and located a knife lying on the ground. Eaton was convicted of directing the second deputy, who had participated in the arrest, to falsify reports and testify falsely in state court proceedings that that the victim had pulled a knife on Eaton during the victim’s arrest, when Eaton and his deputy fully knew this not to be true.

“Obstruction of justice by law enforcement officers strikes at the heart of the fundamental right of every citizen accused of a crime to due process of the law,” said Acting Assistant Attorney General Jocelyn Samuels of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. “As the trial, verdict, and sentence in this case demonstrate, the Department of Justice and the Civil Rights Division will vigorously prosecute law enforcement officers who violate their sworn duty to respect and enforce the constitutional rights of every person.”

This case was investigated by the Louisville Division of the FBI and was prosecuted by Trial Attorneys Roy Conn and Sanjay Patel of the Department of Justice Civil Right Division.
