Identity Theft Kansas City Woman Sentenced

A Kansas City woman who used fake and stolen identities to lease cars, rent apartments and open bank accounts has been sentenced to five years and six months in federal prison.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says 25-year-old Deshonda Latrice Anderson must also pay nearly $40,000 in restitution under the sentence she received Monday.

Federal prosecutors said Anderson defrauded at least 39 individuals, businesses and banks in a four-month span after moving to Kansas City from Texas in February 2012.

The scheme involved fake names, phony and stolen Social Security numbers, bad checks, forged earning statements and other documents.

Anderson was indicted in June 2012. Court records show she pleaded guilty in January to mail fraud and aggravated identity theft.

Private Detective Henderson Man Guilty of Multiple Bank Robberies

A Henderson, Kentucky man pleaded guilty last week in United States District Court before Magistrate Judge Dave Whalin to robbing six financial institutions and to money laundering, announced David J. Hale, United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky.

According to the plea agreement, James Allen Morris, age 54, admitted to using force, violence, and intimidation when he robbed six financial institutions, whose deposits were then insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the National Credit Union Administration, located in Henderson County, Kentucky, between July 23, 2010 and January 17, 2013.

http://liarcatchers.com/contact.php

Specifically, Morris admitted on Friday, July 26, 2013, to robbing the following financial institutions: on January 17, 2013, Green River Credit Union, located at 902 Second Street, Henderson, Kentucky, of $32,414; on August 22, 2012, Independence Bank, located at 2610 Zion road, Henderson, Kentucky, of $10,400; on August 22, 2012, Bank of Henderson, 2003 Stapp Drive, Henderson, Kentucky, of $11,559; on July 11, 2012, Green River Credit Union, 902 Second Street, Henderson, Kentucky, of $1,596; on May 24, 2011, U.S. Bank, 501 Barrett Boulevard, Henderson, Kentucky, of $6,000; and on July 23, 2010, Integra Bank, 9720 U.S. HWY 41 N., Poole, Kentucky, of $2,770.

Further, Morris admitted to one count of money laundering for knowingly depositing the proceeds of bank robbery at three separate branches of the same bank located in Henderson, Kentucky. The separate deposits were designed to conceal the fact that the deposits were bank robbery proceeds taken from the Green River Credit Union.

Further, Morris agreed in court to an order of restitution to be determined at sentencing. The amount owed to victims includes the total loss to the banks listed in the plea agreement including an undetermined amount to Old National Bank and $4,485 to Green River Credit Union at 902 St. Henderson, Kentucky, as $29,524 was recovered.

At sentencing Morris faces a combined maximum term of 140 years in prison, a maximum fine of $1,750,000, restitution, and a three-year term of supervised release.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in Owensboro, before Chief Judge Josepha H. McKinley, Jr.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Judd and is being investigated by the Henderson Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Identity Theft Florida Woman Sentenced to 144 Months

A Florida woman formerly from the St. Louis area on Tuesday was sentenced to prison for being the ringleader in an identity theft ring that tried to cheat the government out of nearly $1.5 million.

Tania Henderson, 28, of Wesley Chapel, Fla., was sentenced in federal court to 144 months in prison and must also pay $835,883 in restitution.

http://liarcatchers.com/identity_theft_investigation.html

According to court documents, Henderson stole the identities of more than 400 people – many of whom had died – and filed fraudulent tax returns using their names and social security account numbers.

Henderson pled guilty on April 29 to one count of theft of government funds and four counts of aggravated identity theft.

Between August and November 2012, Henderson filed 236 fraudulent tax returns from her home in Florida.

She used a network of family would collect refund checks or prepaid debit cards for the refund amounts and liquidate the proceeds.

Three others in the network, Betty Kirkendoll, Patrina Taylor and Jason Bibbs, have already been prosecuted and sentenced.

Although Henderson filed tax returns calling for more than $1.8 million, the IRS was able to intercept nearly $1,000,000 in refunds before they came into Henderson’s control.

Henderson’s husband, Dwayne Denard Johnson, has been indicted for theft of government funds and aggravated identity theft.

Missing Person Body of Big Stone Gap, TN Man Found

The Big Stone Gap Police Department confirmed on Tuesday that the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke has positively identified the remains found in the Powell River last week as those of 60-year-old Terry J. Bishop.

Bishop had been missing from his Big Stone Gap residence since May 9. A week ago Tuesday evening, people picking berries along the southern side of the Powell River just west of town discovered what appeared to be human remains about six feet from shore.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Big Stone Gap police and rescue squad personnel responded to the scene, retrieved the remains and sent them to the state medical examiner’s office in Roanoke. A DNA sample was taken from one of Bishop’s family members for comparative purposes, and on Tuesday, Big Stone Gap Police Chief Steve Hamm said those results confirmed the remains are those of the missing man.

“The state medical examiner contacted us Tuesday morning and determined the DNA evidence was that of Mr. Terry Bishop,” Hamm said. The cause of death has not been determined as of Tuesday and is still a subject of investigation, he added.

“The investigation continues at this time,” Hamm said.

Bishop’s family members have been notified. “I always told (Bishop’s brother, Robert Bishop) that he would be the first person I would talk to,” once the DNA results were in, Hamm said, “and that was the case.”

On Tuesday Robert Bishop said discovery of a body last week braced the family for what “seemed likely” to be confirmed by state authorities.

“After what we’ve been through, it came as no surprise. We kind of figured it was him,” he said. “Now, it’s a closure. Now we know and it’s not like he’s still missing and we don’t know what happened. We know all about him now, except maybe how it happened. But, well, we’ve got a closure.”

Bishop said Gilliam Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap will be in charge of arrangements.
