Missing Person Leann Meyer of Wheat Ridge, CO

The brother of a missing Wheat Ridge woman, who vanished in February, tells CBS4 he thinks his sister is dead.

There seems to be no trace of Leann “Annie” Meyer after she was last seen on Feb. 7. Although investigators are tracking phone calls and text messages sent from Meyer’s phone after that date.

In March police found her SUV and pickup truck in different locations just miles from her home.

http://liarcatchers.com/missing_persons_investigations.html

Meyer has eight brothers and sisters who have been very involved with local searches in hopes of finding her. Some are still hoping for her safe return.

But Mark Meyer believes she is never coming home and just wants to know what happened to her.

“We do feel that Annie has passed. Even though it is a missing persons case still it has moved more towards a homicide case,” said Mark.

He said he has struggled to accept what he has feared the most even though police have yet to confirm what he suspects- that his sister is dead.

“Makes you cry,” said Mark.

He has returned to Wheat Ridge to get more information about Annie’s disappearance. His latest meeting with detectives revealed some new information.

“They told me that they will have answers this week of where we can send our search parties out to. Places that we need to look for, where the cell towers are used and we’re very interested in that,” said Mark.

Annie’s home is covered with missing posters in hopes that someone will call police with information.

Several yellow ribbons are still tied around the trees on her property from last week’s vigil.

Mark continues to wear a T-shirt with Annie’s photo on it, hoping that someone, somewhere will help lead them to her.

“I think we just want closure. That’s the most important thing. We find the body, maybe we’ll have a crime scene, maybe we’ll have a better investigation of what happened,” said Mark.

But until then, Mark said he won’t give up the search for her, “Just give me a clue. Just five me some kind of clue where I can find you.”

Annie’s roommate, Melissa Miller, has refused to cooperate with police.

Crime Stoppers and U.S. Bank are together offering a $20,000 reward for information that would lead to Annie Meyer.

Wrongful Death Manhunt for CA Man Suspected of Killing Wife and Daughters

The manhunt for a Northern California man suspected of killing his wife and two young daughters continues to expand as law enforcement officials ask for help from neighboring agencies.

Officers from at least a dozen state and federal law enforcement agencies have fanned out across an area of rugged terrain along California’s remote north coast where they believe 45-year-old Shane Franklin Miller has taken cover.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Miller, considered armed and extremely dangerous, knows well the tree-lined canyons of Humboldt County where he grew up. Investigators found his pickup truck abandoned near Petrolia, about 200 miles west of the home that Miller shared with his wife, Sandy, 34, and daughters, Shelby, 8, and Shasta, 5.

“It’s very strategic how we’re moving through that forest area,” said Lt. Dave Kent of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Miller is suspected of slaying his family Tuesday night in the rural community of Shingletown, then fleeing to Humboldt County, where low fog and dense brush offer plenty of cover. His mother told The Associated Press she had no idea whether her son and daughter-in-law had suffered marital problems or why Miller might turn on his family.

Kent said detectives continue to search the home where the killings occurred for evidence and clues as to where Miller might have been headed.

In 1996, Miller was convicted of felony cultivation of marijuana in a county known worldwide for the high quality pot grown in the same hard-to-reach forests authorities now are combing.

In 2002, Miller was charged with making and selling marijuana for distribution, being a felon in possession of a firearm, possessing a machine gun and money laundering, according to court records. He pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a gun and served 46 months in federal prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, court records show.

Wrongful Death Man Charged in 3 Deaths in Ottawa, KS

A 27-year-old convicted felon was charged Friday in the deaths of a woman and two men whose bodies were found at an eastern Kansas farm home earlier this week, according to a criminal complaint.

Kyle Flack also faces charges in the death of the woman’s young daughter, whose body hasn’t been found. Authorities say they presume 18-month-old Lana Leigh Bailey is dead based on evidence they have and that the search for her remains continues.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

Flack was charged with capital murder in the deaths of 21-year-old Kaylie Bailey, Lana Bailey and 30-year-old Andrew Stout, according to the complaint. He was charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of those three as well as 31-year-old Steven White.

Franklin County Attorney Stephen Hunting said prosecutors haven’t determined whether to seek the death penalty in the case. Hunting said the decision is not something that authorities “take lightly.”

Flack also faces charges of rape and criminal possession of a firearm. The rape charge is related to Kaylie Bailey.

He remained jailed on a $10 million bond Friday after an afternoon court appearance in which he was formally charged. Another hearing is scheduled for next week. He was appointed an attorney, Ronald Evans of Topeka, in court. Evans’ office was closed late Friday afternoon.

Flack was arrested earlier this week and was being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the deaths. He previously served prison time for shooting a former employer in 2005 after being fired, according to court records.

Authorities still are not commenting on a motive in the deaths. Hunting said doing so “could jeopardize” the ongoing investigation.

The body of Kaylie Bailey of Olathe was discovered Monday at the Ottawa-area farm where she had gone to drop off her daughter with her friend, Stout.

Friends who went to check on Stout found Bailey’s body and called 911. Authorities later found Stout’s body as well as White’s. Stout and White both lived on the farm.

White was killed between April 20 and April 28, and Bailey, her daughter and Stout were killed between April 28 and Monday, according to the criminal complaint.

Authorities haven’t said how they died. Hunting would only say that a firearm was used against all the victims, but didn’t elaborate on whether that meant they all were fatally shot.

Crews on foot, horseback and all-terrain vehicles resumed their search Friday for 18-month-old Lana Bailey. A dive team also searched a pond on the farm.

Franklin County Sheriff Jeffrey Richards has said the girl is presumed dead, but has not released any details. On Friday, he said more than 150 investigators were following up on leads.

“We plan to continue until we get a full resolution to this case,” Richards said.

Pedophile Tracking Wheatland, CA Pastor Pleads Not Guilty

A Wheatland pastor pleaded not guilty on Thursday to 16 felony counts of sexual child abuse in connection with a year-long sexual relationship with a teenage girl.

If convicted on all charges, Brian Clay Gray faces up to 11 years and three months in state prison and must register as a sex offender, said Shiloh Sorbello, deputy Yuba County district attorney.

Judge Julia L. Scrogin appointed the Yuba County Public Defender’s Office to represent the minister, though Gray said he hopes to retain his own attorney.

http://liarcatchers.com/pedophile_tracking.html

“My sister is working on that for me,” Gray told the judge.

The 51-year-old pastor of the Anchor Baptist Church was arrested early Wednesday after his wife’s brother — a police officer in Kansas — reported the abuse to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

Two days before his arrest, numerous parishioners confronted Gray about his behavior with the Nicolaus teenager, the Sheriff’s Department said.

Public Defender Brian Davis entered not guilty pleas on Gray’s behalf.

Davis declined to say why Gray pleaded not guilty after reportedly admitting the abuse to the Sheriff’s Department.

Prosecutors said it is standard legal practice for defendants to enter not-guilty pleas during their first arraignment.

“It’s very common,” Sorbello acknowledged. “In cases of this type, it’s almost unheard of for a defendant to plead guilty at their first court appearance.”

City records indicate Gray established his small storefront church on Front Street in 2008.

Gray appeared in court wearing shackles and an orange jail-issued sweat suit.

Scrogin set bail at $100,000 and ordered Gray back into court on Wednesday.

The judge also ordered Gray not to contact the girl and to stay at least 100 yards away from the teenager.

Filed Thursday afternoon in Yuba County Superior Court, the criminal complaint charges Gray with nine counts of unlawful sex, six counts of lewd and lascivious acts and one count of unlawful communication with a minor.

“Gray admitted to engaging in consensual sexual intercourse and oral copulation with the juvenile at a Wheatland church,” a probable cause statement says.

The abuse began in late January 2012 when the girl was 15 years old, continued until at least the end of March of this year. Encounters happened at the church, at church-related events and during private meetings at a Super 8 Motel in Sacramento, according to the complaint.

The victim is now 16, authorities said.

Prosecutors charged Gray for six sexual incidents over at least 16 months, saying multiple laws were broken during each incident.

Wrongful Death 2 Ohio Teens Found Dead

Two teenage brothers who had been reported missing were found dead after authorities were directed to their bodies by a third teen, who pleaded not guilty to a grand theft auto charge and was jailed, officials said.

The brothers — 14-year-old Blaine Romes and 17-year-old Blake Romes — lived together with the third teen and their mothers inside a trailer home in Ottawa in northwest Ohio, neighbors said.

http://liarcatchers.com/wrongful_death.html

The Associated Press previously identified the third teen, also a 17-year-old boy, but now is withholding his name because he has been charged as a juvenile.

The teens had been the subjects of an Amber Alert issued Thursday morning after a mother returned to the home and found a crime scene, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said. A car also was reported missing from the trailer park.

The 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Thursday afternoon at a gas station in Columbus, about 115 miles away, after stopping to ask for directions, authorities said. He was driving the missing car, police said. He faces no other charges.

Prosecutors asked a judge on Friday that the boy continue to be held in jail because they anticipate filing additional charges, which they didn’t specify.

Deputies put a hooded jacket over the boy as they led him inside, shielding his face from the media.

After sitting down inside the courtroom, he reached out for the hand of his mother, who was sitting beside him. She had been sitting with the dead boys’ mother before the hearing started.

The boy spoke only a few times during the brief hearing, answering yes when asked if he understood his rights.

The boy’s attorney and his mother declined to comment to reporters at the juvenile court hearing on Friday. The dead boys’ mother also left without commenting.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said the 17-year-old told officers that the Romes brothers were dead and gave the locations of their bodies. Few other details have been released about the case.

Sheriff Mike Chandler said the bodies were found in different locations. He declined to give additional information on what happened, saying he was limited because those involved are juveniles.

Chandler said authorities were waiting for autopsies to be completed to determine the causes of the boys’ deaths.

Neighbors at the trailer park say the women who lived there worked overnight shifts. Brad Bailey, who lives across the street, said he saw the women outside pacing back and forth for much of the day after the boys were reported missing Thursday. He said he had seen all three boys laughing and joking together in the past.

Classmates and friends mourned the brothers as news of their deaths spread through Ottawa, a village of 4,500 people south of Toledo.

The younger brother, Blaine, was supposed to join his classmates early Thursday on an eighth-grade class trip to Washington.

Kevin Brinkman, superintendent of Ottawa-Glandorf Schools, said the trip went ahead as scheduled. He said a steady stream of students had been meeting with counselors at the two schools the boys attended.

Blaine was on the basketball and track teams, Brinkman said.

Blake was a junior at Ottawa-Glandorf High School, where he was involved in track and choir, principal Jayson Selgo said Friday. The school has about 530 students, and word of his death traveled fast in the community.

“He was very well respected and liked by the students and faculty, as well. A very friendly kid,” Selgo said.

Marquis West, who knows all three boys, said they had lived together with their moms for less than a year.

“Every time we got together, they were always uplifting toward each other,” said West, an 18-year-old senior at Ottawa-Glandorf High School.

West said he knew the three teens from playing basketball in a church league. The two brothers were especially close, he said, despite their age difference.

“They were always together,” West said. “The only time they were separate was when they were on different teams.”

Counselors were available in the district for students and staff members who might need help coping with the news.

“I think everyone is trying to get through this difficult time in their own way,” Selgo said.

The school posted a notice on its website Friday saying “our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Blake and Blaine.”

Selgo said the 17-year-old in custody did not attend the high school.

The trailer park, surrounded by farm fields on the edge of the village, has a mix of well-kept trailers with neatly trimmed yards and other lots that are overgrown. The trailer where the families live has weeds growing in the flower bed, broken blinds and an autographed football in the window. In the back, there’s a motorcycle parked in a shed and a smashed barbecue grill lid and other discarded items on the ground.

Angela Weber, who moved in next door to the family two months ago, said it’s a peaceful community.

“We live in a small town for a reason,” she said.
