A Laurel County mother accused of abandoning her child while she went to a party was sentenced in the case Tuesday.
Rachel Kilburn was sentenced to one year diverted as per the Commonwealth’s recommendation. She had previously entered an Alford Plea to one count of abandoning a minor.

Police say Kilburn and her boyfriend, Johnathon Haynes, left the 10-week-old girl with Haynes’ brother for two days. He didn’t know how to take care of a baby, and deputies found the baby dead a few days later.
