Missing Person Search Continues for Kevin Glenn Bowman of Conover, NC

Teams of searchers spent Saturday combing through densely wooded areas searching for any sign of Kevin Glenn Bowman, a 33-year-old Conover man who has not been seen by his family for a week.

Bowman was reported missing on Tuesday. His family last saw him on June 30 when they met for dinner at the home of his sister, Julie Bolick, in Hickory. Bowman left around 9 p.m. He did not show up for work at Carroll Leather on Monday or Tuesday, and staff at the business contacted Bolick Tuesday morning to check on him, at which time Bolick reported him missing to police.

Bowman’s car was found parked in front of his apartment on 3rd Street Place SW. The door to his apartment was locked. Police entered the apartment to find no sign of a struggle and Bowman’s belongings undisturbed.

Conover Police Chief Steven Brewer said the search concentrated on the area between Bowman’s apartment and Carroll Leather, which is less than two miles from the apartment. Densely wooded areas between the two sites were the focus of much of the search.

Brewer said there was no evidence to suggest foul play, but based on information collected, Bowman’s disappearance is highly unusual. “It’s very odd, him being the private person he was and a creature of habit, to lose contact with his family and work,” he said.

About 40 volunteers and five tracking dogs working with Community United Effort (CUE) Center for Missing Persons searched for traces of Bowman. Advance crews scouted the area Friday before the full search on Saturday.

Monica Caison, CUE’s founder and executive director, said the search was about eliminating spaces where there was reason to think Bowman might be found. Teams were looking for items including glasses, a watch or articles of clothing.

Bowman’s parents, Grady and Judy Bowman, and Bolick were at the search command post at Conover’s Public Works Department. Teams scoured over maps of the search area to make the entire area was examined.

The Bowmans described their son as a quiet and private person. The family meets for dinner together every Wednesday and Sunday, and Grady Bowman said they usually talk on the phone a couple times a week.

“He’s just your average Joe,” Bolick said of her brother.

Judy Bowman thanked the community for an outpouring of donations, support and prayer, and asked that members of the community continue to keep her son in their prayers. “You say ‘This couldn’t be happening—not to me, not to my family.’ But it does,” she said.

Kevin Bowman is a white male, 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds. He has brown hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans. Anyone with information about Bowman is asked to contact the Conover Police Department at 828-464-4698 or CUE at 910-343-1131 or 910-232-1687.
