Private Detective Kenton County Child Home Safe After Mistakenly Kidnapped

A Kenton County girl is back home with her parents after being mistakenly kidnapped Thursday.

The 4-year-old was asleep in the back seat of her mother’s car when the vehicle was stolen.

“It felt like a lifetime not knowing where she was, not knowing what they could do to her at any given moment,” said the young girl’s father, Bryan Golsby.

Police say the little girl’s mother had gone into a Speedway around 1:30 p.m. Thursday leaving her daughter in the car. In less than 20 seconds, two teens jumped in and took off.

“Somewhere, about 15 minutes into the trip, they looked back and saw this juvenile asleep in the back seat, at which point they panicked and decided to dump the car,” explained Ft. Wright Police Sgt. Michael Knight.

Even thought it only took police about 20 minutes to get to the location where the teens left the vehicle, a Kroger parking lot not too far from the Speedway in Ft. Wright, the girl’s father says those few minutes felt like an eternity.

“It’s an eerie feeling not knowing where your child is,” Golsby said.

The little girl, never aware she was in danger, was found safe in the car that police were able to track using a cell phone signal, tracking the mother’s cell phone, which was also in the car.

The two teens were found in the area of the ditched car, and now face theft, kidnapping and other related charges.

The outcome of this situation comes as a huge relief to the parents who say they’ve learned a valuable lesson about leaving kids in the car.
