Pedophile Tracking Convicted Predator Arrested in Naperville, IL

A convicted child sexual predator was arrested after he allegedly made six improper 911 calls to Naperville Police and was then found in a public park in the western suburb.

Bond was set at $100,000 for Nequan T. Vaughn, 29, of Chicago. He faces trial on felony charges of making a false 911 report and being a sexual offender or child sex offender present in a public park, according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court.

Vaughn was arrested about 3:21 p.m. Friday in Will-O-Way Park, at 1408 W. Jefferson Ave. Police records indicated the arrest followed a series of events that began about 2:05 p.m. at a nearby condominium complex.

Sgt. Lou Cammiso said officers were initially called to the complex on the 1500 block of West Jefferson Avenue.

“It was a trespassing issue,” in which Vaughn “a couple hours earlier had been issued a trespassing warning,” and at which time police “learned of his status as a registered sex offender,” Cammiso said Monday.

Vaughn subsequently “started calling 911, demanding to speak to the officer” who investigated the trespassing complaint, Cammiso said. A police dispatcher told Vaughn “several times not to call [911] for that purpose, and to call the non-emergency line,” he said.

Cammiso said Vaughn made six 911 calls before making contact with the officer, who asked him where he could be found.

Vaughn allegedly replied “he was in the park, sitting on a bench near the ball fields,” Cammiso said. “And obviously, as a registered sex offender, he wasn’t supposed to be in a park” or any other public place frequented by children, he said.

Cammiso said a police report did not indicate who filed the trespassing complaint against Vaughn or why it was filed. He also said he did not have details concerning Vaughn’s arrest on the child sex charges or his designation as a sex offender.

Illinois State Police records showed Vaughn was convicted in Cook County of a charge of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a victim between the ages of 13 and 16. Those records provided no further details concerning the crime, but noted Vaughn is classified as a “non-compliant sexual predator.”

Court documents indicated Vaughn has no criminal record in DuPage, Kane and Will counties. His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 19.
