Wrongful Death Bardstown Officers Say No Rest Until Murderer Found

Thursday marks two months since Bardstown police officer Jason Ellis was ambushed, shot and killed along the Bluegrass Parkway.

Police don’t have any suspects in the case, but promise they won’t rest until they have found the person responsible.

It was in the parking lot of the Bardstown Police Department 2 months ago, when Chief Rick McCubbin said he would not rest until he found those responsible for the murder of Jason Ellis.

“It’s probably been the fastest two months.,” Chief McCubbin said.

He now wears some bracelets as a constant reminder of a case not yet solved..

“Through everyday that ticks away from the date this has happened, we try to look at it positively that it’s one more day we are getting closer to closing it,” he said.

Officer’s are keeping positice, Chief McCUbbin says, despite threats from unknown people saying more officers would be killed.

“We came out pretty strongly against it, and said basically ‘bring it if that’s what you got,’ we are not going to stop our investigation and since doing that we have received nothing, so we hope that much has ended,” Chief McCubbin said.

The police department continues their investigation. They even provide security to the family of the fallen officer.

“We are trying to keep that going for a while, we want to make sure they are comfortable,” he said. “Though there are no threats toward her or the boys or that family, we want to make sure we are doing our part to keep that safe feeling and keep her comfortable.”

It’s for that family who wakes up everyday without a son, husband and father that they won’t stop until justice is served.

On August 3rd, Bluegrass Barkery will host an event for officer Ellis’s K-9 Figo. The event starts at 9:00 a.m. at Keeneland.

The goal is to raise enough money to pay for the long term care of Figo. The Ellis family is caring for the dog now.
