Identity Theft Macon, AZ Man Charged with 588 Counts

Macon police say they’ve charged a man with 588 counts of fraud and identity theft.

They identified him as 26-year-old Jaydeep Patel. He was arrested Thursday and is still in the Bibb County jail on $49,700 bond.

Police say Patel was a middle man for an international loan scam.  Fronting for a company called Incomm, police say Patel took people’s information and used it to open debit and credit cards.

They say he withdrew around $190,000 from ATMs in the Macon area, and say this is also part of a national scam.

Macon Police say the international operation may have connections to India, but that Patel is a U.S. citizen.  They were first made aware of the situation in April.

Patel was was arrested at the Houston Mart on Houston Avenue, where he worked.

Macon police say they’re still investigating alongside the U.S. Secret Service and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, and may make more arrests.
