Insurance Fraud Pasadena, MD Insurance Agent Charged

A Pasadena insurance agent has been charged with 87 counts of insurance fraud and felony theft, Maryland Attorney General Doug Gansler announced Monday.

Arraignment for Carolyn Yvonne Nowicki, 43, has not yet been scheduled in Anne Arundel County Circuit Court, according to a release.

An indictment alleges that Nowicki stole $117,150.59 in insurance premiums from June 22, 2009 through May 13, 2011, while an agent at Main Street Insurance in Pasadena. The thefts targeted 57 individuals and businesses, according to the release.

Nowicki was also charged with one count of theft scheme valued at $100,000 or more.

If convicted, a fraudulent insurance claim could carry up to 15-year sentence and a $10,000 fine. The theft scheme charge could carry up to 25 years behind bars and a $25,000 fine.

A fraudulent insurance claim having a value of $300 or more is a felony and is punishable by a maximum sentence of 15 years incarceration and a $10,000 fine. A theft scheme involving $100,000 or more is a felony punishable by a maximum sentence of 25 years incarceration and a $25,000 fine, according to a release.
