Private Detective Somerset Group Home Robbed

A group home for people with special needs was the target of a violent robbery Sunday morning, and one person was taken to the hospital. It happened at a house on West Gate Drive in Somerset.

It was a calm night in the group house where several men with special needs live, that is until someone broke in while they were asleep, assaulted their caretaker and took their medications. Something, the family of these men say, they depend on.

“You have to keep him on medications or he’ll just get upset and angry and he can’t handle not having medication,” says Joellen Rogers, Robert’s sister.

“He rammed his arm through a window he’s rammed his head through a cabinet door,” says Vickie Payne, Robert’s mother.

They say the caretaker had to be taken to the hospital. Fortunately none of the other men were hurt. Family members say they don’t understand why anyone would target adults with special needs. “Autistic people don’t understand stuff like that and they shouldn’t take from people who don’t know what’s going on,” says Rogers.

“If they would’ve came in his bedroom I really don’t think he would’ve known what to do,” Payne.

According to family members, this isn’t the first time the home has been a target for a robbery. “The house has been broken into twice, twice the medication was taken and this time someone got hurt,” says Payne.

Family members say all the material things in the home can be replaced, now, they are just concerned for the safety of everyone inside the home. “These people are special needs they don’t new to be stolen off of, that’s completely wrong,” says Rogers.

The condition of the caretaker is not known.

If you have any information about the robbery, call police.
