Private Detective Springfield, MO Assaulted Officer on Bath Salts

Police say a Springfield man told them he was on a synthetic drug known as “bath salts” when he “slammed” a metal bed frame down on a police dog.

According to a probable cause statement, police were called to a home on South Missouri Avenue on Nov. 25 to respond to a man who had been “screaming, breaking windows out of the residence, and throwing objects.”

When they arrived, police found Ervin Antwaun Allen, 34, in the kitchen “yelling and throwing any item he could get his hands on.”

Police reported seeing Allen throwing punches but did not see anyone else in the home.

Officers said they attempted to talk to Allen, who said “he did not like the police.”

The statement says Allen’s behavior then escalated and he began making “threats of violence” toward an officer.

Police say Allen threw a chair, mop and bucket at officers before he retreated to a bedroom.

According to the statement, a police dog “tried to engage Allen on the leg,” so Allen “grabbed a metal bed frame and slammed it down onto (the dog).”

The statement says Allen then threw the frame at an officer, hitting him in the hand. Allen then tried to hit the officer when the dog “took hold of Allen’s arm.”

The officer reported that the dog was limping after the incident and he was unsure of the specific injuries.

Prosecutors say the officer came away with bumps and bruises.

According to a bond recommendation filed by prosecutors, Allen told police he had used bath salts, a synthetic drug similar to cocaine or methamphetamine, prior to the arrest.

Allen was on probation at the time for assault on a law enforcement officer and unlawful use of a weapon.

He was charged Wednesday with felony assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement animal, but he was not in custody at the time.

A judge has issued a warrant for Allen’s arrest, according to court records.
