Missing Person 14 Year Old Wichita, KS Boy

Wichita authorities are looking for a 14-year-old boy who went missing Jan. 30.

Derilyn Johnson Jr. was last seen about 9 p.m. that day at his Wichita home in the 1900 block of North Grove, his father said, and may be headed to Forney, Texas, near Dallas.

Wichita police Sgt. Kevin Bradford said Friday that the boy broke up with his girlfriend by phone before he disappeared and told her he was moving to Texas, where his mother lives.

“It’s believed he’s with his mom or headed that direction,” Bradford said.

His father, Derilyn Johnson Sr., said his son hasn’t contacted his Wichita family or friends and hasn’t seen his mother in several years. He is listed as a runaway with the Wichita Police Department.

Derilyn, a Wichita North High School freshman, is 6 feet tall and weighs 135 pounds. He was last seen wearing red, white and blue basketball shorts and a pink sweatshirt, his father said. On Friday, he was among 20 Kansas kids listed as missing on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s website.

Anyone with information about Derilyn’s whereabouts is asked to call Wichita Police at 316-268-4221, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children’s hotline at 800-843-5678 (THE-LOST) or 911.

Derilyn Johnson Jr., 14, went missing from his Wichita home Jan. 30. He may be traveling to Texas, where his mother lives.
