Kentucky State Police have made an arrest in the murder and arson case that took the life of a 79-year-old Lee County woman.
Investigators picked up 55-year-old Melvin G. Slone for the crime on Wednesday night.
The murder happened on April 11 in Martha Hollar’s Lee County home, on Main street in Beattyville. Detectives said the preliminary investigation has indicated that Hollar was fatally shot prior to her residence catching on fire.

Friends of Hollar tell us she was known by the entire community, owned several stores and collected antiques. They said they think her murder had to do with her home being burglarized weeks before this tragedy.
Slone has been charged with murder and is currently at the Three Fork’s Regional Jail. Kentucky State Police said the case is still open and under investigation.
