Drug Dog Sweep More Than 500 Grams of Meth Found in Safe in Trunk

Federal authorities have charged an Oklahoma man with drug trafficking after Potter County deputies found more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.

About 1 p.m. April 23, a Potter County deputy stopped a 2013 Hyundai Elantra along Interstate 40 on a traffic offense of making an improper lane change. After talking to the driver, Karl Wesley Kasiner, 46, of Eufaula, Okla., the deputy noticed “numerous indicators of possible criminal activity,” according to a federal criminal complaint.

The officer issued Kasiner a warning ticket for improper lane change, and returned Kasiner’s driver’s license and other documents. The deputy then asked Kasiner for consent to search the vehicle, but Kasiner refused. Another deputy then used a drug dog to check the outside of Kasiner’s vehicle, the complaint said.

The dog alerted to the presence of drugs inside the Hyundai and deputies found a small safe inside the vehicle’s trunk. Kasiner then gave officers a key to the safe and investigators found more than 2 pounds of methamphetamine bundles in the safe. A Drug Enforcement Administration officer arrived at the location and advised Kasiner of his constitutional rights. Kasiner told investigators the drugs were his and that he planned to take them to Eufaula to sell them, according to the complaint.

Kasiner, who was charged April 25 with possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, remains in the Randall County jail, pending further hearings in his case.
