Private Detective, Man Shoots 15 Year Old Several Times

A Franklin County high school student is fighting for his life at the University of Kentucky Hospital after, the sheriff says, a man shot the teen several times Monday night.

The shooting suspect, 55-year-old Samuel Isaacs, was arraigned Tuesday morning with first degree assault, wanton endangerment and resisting arrest.

Family members identify the shooting victim as 15-year-old David Lacey who they say had just started his freshman year at Franklin County High School.

Around 6 p.m. Monday night, the sheriff says Isaacs shot the teen several times at a mobile home park on Duckers Station. The victim was flown to UK Hospital with critical injuries.

After the shooting, investigators say Isaacs was found under a bridge, where he pointed a gun at himself and threatened suicide. A lengthy standoff ended a little after midnight when deputies say Isaacs surrendered peacefully.

The victim’s grandmother, Lisa Tracy, says David was shot seven times and that the suspect deserves more than an assault charge.

“For this man to do that, to deliberately leave his house with a gun and to go look for a 15-year-old boy and hunt him down, that’s attempted murder to me, in my book,” said Tracy. “You don’t take a gun and go after a child unless you plan on doing something drastic.”

An LEX 18 crew reached out to Isaacs in the Franklin County jail for his side of the story, but was told by jail staff that he could not talk. They wouldn’t specify as to why.

Family members say David is still in critical condition but is expected to survive.

As for what led to the shooting, the family says they are waiting until David wakes up to get the full story.
