Private Detective, Man Accused of Attempted Murder Leads Police on Chase While Naked

A convicted sex offender recently released from prison is back behind bars, this time accused of trying to gun down a Pulaski County preacher in a crowded Russell County pool hall. Then, days later, leading police on a chase through a neighborhood while completely naked.

Jerry Brown was arrested Tuesday, but police say the situation began Sunday at Laker Billiards in Russell Springs, where officers say Brown fired a shot inside the business while other people were inside. They say he was trying to kill Jason Collins, identified as a preacher in Somerset.

According to the chief of police, the gun appeared to have malfunctioned or more shots would’ve been fired.

“He nervously fiddled with it and ran out of the establishment and in doing so, for probably over 100 yards, he was dropping unfired rounds,” Chief Joseph Irvin said.

On Tuesday, investigators tracked their suspect to East Kentucky 619 and Stephens Ridge Road, where they say he lost control of the stolen vehicle he was driving and ran through yards, fences and fields. Officers say Brown was completely naked during that chase, only wearing a watch.

Police say Brown was living with the preacher’s estranged wife.

He faces a long list of charges, including attempted murder and indecent exposure.
