Private Detective, Louisville Cheerleader Died of Multiple Drug Intoxication

A Louisville coroner has confirmed a University of Louisville cheerleader who was found dead in late July died of multiple drug intoxication.

WAVE 3 reports coroner Barbara Weakley-Jones confirmed that 22-year-old Danielle “Dani” Cogswell had heroin, amphetamine, Xanax and marijuana in her system.

Weakley-Jones said heroin, amphetamine and Xanax contributed to Cogswell’s death. Although she also marijuana in her system, the coroner said that was not a contributing factor in the death.

Cogswell was found dead in Cardinal Towne, an off-campus student housing complex with ties to the university, around 9 a.m. on July 28.

On July 30 LMPD said they were treating Cogswell’s death as a suspected overdose.

The university issued a statement about the student’s death:

“We’re saddened by the coroner’s report and the circumstances surrounding Dani’s death. We have continued to provide support for our spirit team members as they have worked through their grief. In addition, over the past year we have been working to ensure that the spirit teams have access to all of the services and benefits that are available to other student athletes.

We have a planned meeting with the spirit teams at which time we will notify them that they will have access to those services which include academic and counseling services along with sports medicine which oversees the drug testing program.”
