Private Detective, Man Shoots Another in Private Parts Before Shooting Himself

Two people are recovering from a shooting in Wolfe County in which neighbors said one man shot another, then turned the gun on himself. It happened on Cave Branch Road in Bethany.

It was a quiet afternoon on the quaint country road, when suddenly at around 4 p.m. a blue Mustang pulled into Jame’s Maloney’s family driveway.

“He said I want to kill you,” said Maloney. “He threatens me, puts it in drive and goes up to my Uncle’s house and pop pop pop. He pulled the window down real fast, pop pop pop,” said Maloney. It’s a sound he can’t forget, and an alleged gunman he said he knows far too well.

“He’s kind of a dangerous character to be around,” said Maloney. He said Greg Richerson used to date his sister for years, and isn’t allowed on their family property.

Maloney’s sister said it’s her car and pistol that Richerson stole while on drugs, before going to the home on Cave Branch Road and shooting a different man she had been seeing.

“He shot Rodney Wilder two times in the private parts. And I seen him go back down the road,” said Maloney.

He said Richerson drove about a quarter mile down the road, and then started running from police.

“He went up in a driveway, waited a few minutes and officers got there on foot and he shot himself when the officers was running him down,” said Maloney.

Kentucky State Police said Richerson was shot in the chest and taken to Kentucky River Medical Center in Jackson with life threatening injuries.

Maloney said the man Richerson is accused of shooting, Rodney Wilder, went to University of Kentucky Hospital. At last check Wilder was listed in good condition.

“I hope he gets better and the guy who shot him, I hope he wise up and he gets better too,” said Maloney.

Now as the wounds begin to heal, people on Cave Branch Road hope their relationships can too. “I would like for everybody to get along,” said Maloney.

Kentucky State Police said the case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.
