Pedophile Tracking Man Arrested in Iowa

A Seminole man accused of sexually abusing children in Iowa has been arrested in Pinellas County.

The man, Stewart David Smith, 52, was wanted on a Tama County, Iowa, warrant, authorities said. The crimes began when the girls were 8 years old and continued to present ages of 14 and 16, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Smith previously was required to register as a sex offender, deputies said. He’s not currently required to register, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies said Smith admitted to Iowa media that he’s a pedophile.

While living in Iowa, he routinely participated in functions with church youth groups and Girl Scouts, deputies said. In Florida, he lived near a school and church day care, deputies said.

There are not any local charges against Smith, Pinellas deputies said.
