Police in Hopkinsville arrested a man accused of hitting his wife with a hatchet and then threatening to shoot her Monday night.
Police say officers responded to a report of a disturbance at a home on Springmont Drive. Officers say a witness told them Timothy P. Hale, 51, hit his wife multiple times with a hatchet and punched her in the face. According to court documents, when the victim fled, Hale pulled a .45 caliber handgun and said, “I’m going to end it. I’m going to put her down.”

Hale’s son managed to disarm him and throw the gun into the back yard.
The victim was flown to a Nashville hospital. Officials described her condition as critical.
Police arrested Hale and charged him with attempted murder.
