A Boyle County man charged with killing a 13-month-old boy appeared in court Tuesday for the first time.
Joseph Adams’ arraignment lasted only a few minutes and the judge entered a not guilty plea for the man accused of killing his girlfriend’s son.
25-year-old Adams asked the judge in his video arraignment for a public defender and was scheduled to be back for a preliminary hearing next Wednesday.

Police say last Friday, Adams was supposed to be taking care of the boy when the 1-year-old was somehow hurt. The toddler was taken to a Danville hospital where he later died.
Police say Adams assaulted the boy, who had severe trauma.
Adams is behind held without bond.
