Fraud Investigation BBB Warns Scott County Residents of Storm Repair Scam

A new scam is popping up in Scott County preying on victims from last week’s storms.

The Better Business Bureau called a meeting Thursday morning with the City of Georgetown and local law enforcement reminding residents to be vigilant.

Scott County Sheriff Tony Hampton says a local resident opened his door to two seemingly legal businessmen offering to repair his roof, when they stole his wallet instead. And he’s not the only victim of these kind of scams.

“If anyone wants the entire amount of money up front, if you’re paying cash, if they don’t want to show you worker’s comp and liability insurance, if they’re vague about where they’re from and how long they’ve been in business, these are all red flags,” said Heather Clary.

If you don’t feel right about someone in particular, contact the BBB or the sheriff’s office for additional information.
