A Madison County teen was sentenced to 12 years behind bars after admitting she killed her 9-month-old baby sister last year.
Jessica Marcum said she did not mean to hurt her sister and ultimately took a plea deal for manslaughter.
Marcum was only 17 last summer when she was set to stand trial as an adult for killing her sister, Bella Rose. Instead, she took a plea deal to avoid capital punishment and told the court what happened.

Marcum said she was watching her 9-month-old sister and put a pillow over head to stop her from crying, only she ended up suffocating Bella Rose.
The judge took the Commonwealth’s recommendation of a 12-year sentence.
Marcum’s family and attorneys did not wish to make a statement, but when asked if she still supports and loves her daughter, Marcum’s mother said: “How do I choose? She’s still my daughter.”
