Wrongful Death Man Wanted in Murder Back in Lexington

Almost five months since a man was gunned down on the street, the suspect is in jail in Lexington.

Jefferey Morris is accused of murder and was picked up earlier this month in Glendale, Arizona, outside of Phoenix, and booked into the Fayette County jail Monday.

The morning of June 11, police say 47-year-old Anthony Carter was shot and killed while on his bicycle near the area of Fifth Street and Chestnut.

Weeks after the murder, investigators pinned Carter’s death on Jefferey Morris, who apparently lived in the area.

Detectives say Morris had to have known he was wanted because since then, officers say Morris went off the radar, and Lexington police teamed up with U.S. Marshals in the search for him.

In the arrest warrant obtained by LEX 18, it says there were witnesses that confirmed Morris fled the scene after the shots were fired and that he confessed to the killing.

Morris is set to face murder and tampering with physical evidence charges in court soon.
