Private Detective: Man Pleads Guilty In Beating Of Man Left For Dead At Rock Quarry

A man accused of beating another and leaving him for dead has pleaded guilty to the charges against him.

Jason Gambrel pleaded guilty to assault first degree Wednesday morning, and the Commonwealth recommended 14 years behind bars.

The Commonwealth said Gambrel grossly understated his role in the beating of 23-year-old Derek Kissee, who was left for dead at a rock quarry in Rockcastle County earlier this month.

He was originally charged with attempted murder and robbery.

According to the prosecution, evidence shows that Gambrel struck Kissee with a rock over money and drugs.

Commonwealth has also asked for restitution to cover medical costs.

Sentencing has been schedule for Dec. 22.
