A local man known for faking a handicap in order to make money is now facing more serious charges.
Gary Thompson was in Franklin County Court Monday to plead not guilty to rape charges. Thompson is accused of raping a woman last year and prosecutors say the woman has a mental disability.

Thompson first came to notoriety after he admitted to LEX 18 that he fakes a mental handicap in order to scam people out of money.
Thompson says he plans to participate in his own defense.
